What Was the Last Movie You Watched?

Oliver Stone's JFK REVISITED on Prime Video

I'm not sure I trust Oliver Stone's conclusions, so I'll need to do some fact-checking, but it was interesting, nonetheless.
No matter what you believe, he was dead before we even knew it. Pick your favorite conspiracy theory and you'll still never know for sure.

I visited Dealy Plaza when I was in TX one time and it wasn't interesting and it didn't answer any questions to see it.

But they charge you money to get into the Texas Book Depository to see that.

Sigh....

That's a superb documentary. You can trust the sources: James DiEugenio (who wrote the script for Stone's JFK (1991), and I suspect some input from Paul Bleau, Jeff Morley, Paul Abbott, and 3 or 4 others who are the chief most highly respected of the JFK assassination researchers.

There are thousands of hours of interviews and discussion by these and other expert researchers. Some of the best sites: Kennedysandking.com, maryferrrell.org, jfkfacts.substack.com, and several others.

The JFK assassination is an enormous subject, with likely many hundreds if not thousand of books written about it. Any one of them is infinitely better than the dreadful Warren Report. I have 15-20 of the best ones myself, and have studied many facets of the conspiracy.

Watched "The Reader" (2008) last night via a DVD from my library - don't know if it's streaming anywhere.

I was quite surprised at where this movie went. Thought it was quite good. Kate Winslet sure earned her Best Actress Academy Award.
This sounds interesting, SS. When I'm ready to commit to something as long as a movie, I may try it.

I see it's free on Prime for members as well as Prime FreeVee (ads).

There's some sex and nudity in it - don't think the film needed the nudity (they rarely do), but I soldiered through. The heart of the movie really shows up in the second half.

The Secret Life of Bees on Hulu. I saw the movie as this is our Library Book Club selection for our meeting this Friday. I loved the book, loved every word, but can't say the same for movie, even though it was good and has a good cast. The beauty of the book made the movie seem cheap in comparison. I can't judge the movie because of that. It was probably good!

Apocalypse Z: The Beginning of the End (2024)

A zombie flick that takes place in Spain. Good English dub.

Not a radically new thing, but with it's own place and some interesting characters though most of the movie is just the one guy. Not horribly gory.

There may be sequels since it ends a little open-endedly (though not badly) and it was adapted from a book series.

I thought having Jesse Plemmons looking at the world through rose colored glasses while performing summary executions was an interesting touch.
Jesse Plemmons played a character like that In Breaking Bad. Seemed like a simple, round faced, innocent young guy until he did something horrible. It made it all doubly shocking. He was born to play those parts.

I had the same experience with it. The book was just enchanting, but the movie didn't quite capture that feel.

My "watch together online" group just watched Sidney Poitier in "Lilies of the Field." As a 1963 film it was a little too modern for my crowd, we usually stick to the 30's and 40's but we all loved it. Just a nice warm story with believable characters and touches of humor.

I had a double feature last night. This was the first movie I watched...

U-571 (2000) - Netflix, staring Matthew McConaughey, Bill Paxton, Harvey Keitel, and... Jon Bon Jovi?
A German submarine is boarded by disguised American submariners trying to capture their Enigma cipher machine.

Highly entertaining movie. :)

I watched Vincent Price and Gene Tierney in Dragonwyck, a 1946 black & white period drama. Vincent Price is one of my favorite actors.
Very good picture. Walter Huston was good as well. Can't say enough about Gene Tierney. Vincent Price was actually quite a good actor, including in comedy or lighter roles, e.g. His Kind of Woman (1951). But after House of Wax, and later The Fly, he was soon type cast into horror roles, in which he was superb. Fascinating guy, really.
