Reflections of My Life

I have become addicted to a Zevia creamy root beer every night. Just one. It has no dyes or anything bad in it. Though it does have natural flavors and stevia. But I am going to wean myself off it. After I run out of it this month I will not be buying it again. I have been buying a case of 24 cans every month. So time to tame this root beer tiger.

:) I think it was a movie, Katlupe, but I was just being stupid --I didn't mean anything at all.
It was later a TV show when I was little. I remember the intro being something like that. I get what you meant, @gruntlabor ..... whether a big city like NYC or an apartment building, everyone has a story.

I understand those 'natural flavors' are made in China under unhealthy conditions for the workers. And I believe the carbonated beverages are not good for us.
Still, root beer sure is good.

Depends on where the manufacturer is located. Each one has their own "secret" recipe for the natural or artificial flavors. FDA does not make them list the ingredients because it is their "secret" recipe.

I don't think carbonated drinks are bad but I want to get rid of liking the sweet taste of anything for now. I have stopped using Keto Chow for awhile due to it having whey in it. I want to cut dairy as much as possible. Not butter though. The root beer would be the only thing I have been consuming that has a sweet taste lately.

It seems like we are always trading one bad habit for another. 😉🤭😂

I am not saying drinking soda is a bad habit so much as I want to follow an elimination diet (carnivore). I need to see what foods are causing my inflammation. I am working on being able to walk without as much pain. I can handle pain but it makes it hard to walk very far or very long. Sweets were part of my carb addiction and for the most part I have beat that months ago. The cream in my coffee will be tougher to get rid of than the stevia in Zevia. But I will do it.

Is it possible that full-fat organic plain yogurt might be a substitute for the cream in your coffee?
Also, they say that if you can take your coffee "like a man" (black) for three days, you will acclimatize to it. That proved true for me.

No, I want to eliminate all dairy for 90 days except butter and possibly sour cream. I can drink my coffee with butter in it. That is good after all butter is made from cream. But I don't think I would care for yogurt in my coffee anyway. It just does not sound good to me.

It snowed during the night. Snow removal has been going on since three this morning. I woke up to hear a noise outside. I looked out the window and it was all white and someone was shoveling the ramp off. It would get covered again as fast as the would shovel. Pretty soon there were sounds of plows on the street and in the Hayes Street parking lot. Still plowing our driveway right now. Now it is all slushy out there.

Time for more coffee..........

Yesterday, I FINALLY broke down and did laundry. One washer and one dryer are out of order. I only use one of each. Doing one load at a time makes it much easier. I get stressed when I have to do more than that at a time. I had 3 to do and it took me a good 3 hours to get it done. This time I just put it in the machine and came back to my apartment. Nobody else was doing laundry so it was a peaceful chore. I was so far behind. I know I have swore many times before that I will do little loads every few days but now I mean it. Honest!

I still have about two more loads to do.......bedding and towels. Not today. Today I need to rest my legs after yesterday. That is what happens to me if I do something one day then the next day I have to rest.

Sonny's power went off for a bit on Friday. His aide was there and had the washer going. After that no matter what the washer won't work right. The lid was locked on the rinse cycle and nothing he could do would release it. He has been watching YT videos and trying all sorts of things. It did finally release and he thought it was fixed so put more in to try it. It did it again! As far as I know he hadn't gotten it working correctly yet. He has lost power many times and never had that happen before. Computer driven washing machines.

I'm in the laundry room right now, kat. Two loads in double machine, one dryer. Doing laundry makes me nervous. What doesn't? Nervous & anxious all the time now. Except when son/grandson come to visit me. That's about twice a month. Other than that I'm a wreck.
I am so sorry you are feeling that way. Can you take a walk outside for a short distance? Getting out in the sunshine might help.

I talked to Jeff (my son) yesterday about Thanksgiving. Every year since I have lived here I have cooked a dinner for him and he would take it home. He does not like to eat anywhere but in his apartment. So I told him that I don't feel like cooking a big meal this year. He said it is fine with him. He is fine with hamburgers, ice cream & coke. So I got him groceries today. Oh yeah, I got him sweet potatoes too. He likes them.

For myself I will just have a ribeye. I really don't like to do a big meal that means a lot of cooking and cleaning anymore. That makes for a Thanksgiving I will not dreading this year.

On my way outside to the dumpster. Be back later.

Yesterday was our "Girl Talk" coffee hour. We meet in one of our ladies' apartment. She has two beautiful cats and I enjoy them so much. I have missed having cats. Never thought I would ever live without at least one. Don't get me wrong, I love my bunny to death but he is a lot of work. Cats are the easiest critters to own. And I am really a "cat person". I got a bunny by chance.

Today I will be making some Keto Chow for ice cream. Pumpkin and Chocolate Malt. One for Thanksgiving Day and one for another day. I have stopped having it every day because I am basically trying to find what food is holding me back from healing. It has whey in it and I am afraid dairy might be the food holding me back. Many people have to eliminate it or limit it except for butter and/or cream. I am hoping cream is not the culprit.

@katlupe ,, Was thinking about the big meals I would make for Hubby's family.

When his mother couldn't make the big meals, the daughter in laws took turns being host
The crowd was about 15 to 20 at times.

Was thinking how simple this Thanksgiving will be.
Not a big 'spread' , small turkey with dressing,, gravy,, mashed potatoes,, sweet potato,, dinner rolls.
Apple pie & ice cream,, probably much later.

I know what you mean. Many years of holidays dinners with family. They are good memories now and I enjoyed them back then. But now it is really just Jeff and me and neither one of us want to fuss. Your Thanksgiving dinner sounds nice.

I know what your talkin 'bout. Misa and I are going to bake a chicken with sum sweet potatoes, and steam some fresh beans. No desert planned yet, but I think she has something "KETO" like up her sleeve. :)

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone who reads this diary of mine! I am thankful even though I don't really celebrate the day the traditional way. Some people do not understand why I would move from my own house in the forest to living in an apartment downtown in a small city....very small city. But I am thankful I did and I just have to look around my apartment and I am doubly thankful I did. I have lived through more than one Thanksgiving or Christmas not having any money to buy groceries. Thankfully somebody came to my rescue without me even asking. God does work miracles indeed!

This past week I have been working on organizing closets. Getting rid of things I really have not used in at least a year. Trying to use things that I do not want to get rid of. Has to be useful or it is taking up precious space. Clothing included! I binged on studio apartment decor and organizing on YT yesterday and will probably do more today. I love Alexander Gater's channel and even bought her book. That is on my list for today.....to study her book (which is an amazing book!) some more.

As for Holly's list of 10 things I cannot live without.........it needs to be 20 things. After I wrote it I thought of more things that I did not include. One is my recliner, which I sleep in. And my computer chair and the table I use for my computer and eating also. And silverware and dishes and of course my coffee maker (not sure if I included that on the list). Definitely my shower! Even though it is not a thing but a built in thing I could not stand to live without it ever again. My walker, which I have to use in my apartment as well as going out.

Happy Thanksgiving from Rabbit & Me.............

I think there’s a season for everything and your season of living in the country ended. My parents sold their house and moved into a beautiful apartment in their late 60’s because my dad’s health was bad and they loved it.

I love my little condo and don’t miss my house. Your apartment is perfect for you. Up until 3 years ago I cooked every holiday but now that it’s just my oldest son and Dil we go out to eat and really enjoy it. I will take the dogs for a walk and relax for the remainder. Have a great day!!

Not sure what I will be doing today but I know it won't be shopping. I have not done the "black Friday" thing in many years, even before I moved here. Just not my thing. Depending on the status of the laundry room I may do some laundry. We have four washers and two have been out of order and one dryer also. Not sure if the repairman has been here or not due to the holiday.

My email box has been jammed with "black Friday" offers. "Hurry hurry, get this deal before it ends!" That is because I buy from many of these companies. I have been working this past year on stopping so much shopping. I no longer use the keto products, especially if I can make them myself. Usually, with the exception of Keto Chow and LMNT, I find I don't really need them. I see small companies starting out do not push their products at first (when they probably need the sales). Then when they become bigger they are relentless. That usually makes me back away.

Yesterday I only saw two people (in person. I see many outside my windows). My son was one of them. Since it snowed and turned into a slushy mess out there most people stayed inside. Maybe some were downstairs in the puzzle room. A nice quiet day watching YT videos and coloring in my newest book that my neighbor gave me.

Today I have a delivery coming,,,,,,,,,my Zevia creamy root beer. Yeah, I know I said I was going to give it up but the stevia does not make me want more sweets and that is why it is recommended to give it up. So I am going to keep using it. For now.

But look at what you’re missing Kat.

Today a bunch of people decorated our floor for Christmas. It looks very nice! I went out and talked to everyone for a bit. The lady who usually does it could not this year due to her health. But she was supervising. The two guys who live downstairs did all the work. They are great! Anyway It is done now. Now I am thinking I will get my wreath and snowman out of my storage locker and put them up. Just a little bit of decorating that does not take much effort. My apartment is the one you see as soon as the elevator door opens and I have that little hall entryway to my door. It does need something. So I will do that tomorrow.
