Anyone Else Playing Animal Crossing?

Is anyone playing Animal Crossing?

I started playing this game in September of 2023 and played it for about a year straight before noticing the world around me again. (I was struggling with anxiety and found it very relaxing.)

I still play, usually daily, but to a lesser extent. I have two Ninento Switches, one OLED and one Light and two cartridges for the game (you need a separate cartridge and a separate Switch for each island - which is ridiculous, imo.)

I was so into this game for the first several months, I started a Facebook page for my character and posted pictures of the progress on my island.

Now, 15 months in, I've had several islands and still enjoy it, but to a more rational degree. I still though, find it very relaxing.

Anyone else play?

I looked up Animal Crossing and found this on Amazon. There’s a number of different varieties

It's a game wherein you start off on a deserted island with two other "villagers" (animal characters from the game) and from there (with a lot of help and instruction from the supporting NPS's - Non player Characters) you build up your island and your "friends," which are the villagers in the game and meet certain goals along the way.

It's so much fun because, unlike other sandbox type games, you get a lot of instruction and help. It's so realistic as well, e.g., you feel the vibrations when catching large fish. -- I was so fracking thrilled the first time I pulled a whale shark out of the ocean.
There's really so much to it - I mean, it kept me busy for months. -- Oh, and you can invite real life friends who have their own island, onto your island to play with you. Lemme find a quick vid....

Here we go. :)

Thanks Medusa
Does it cost $800 to start?
That’s a lot of money.

Did she say that on the video? Sheesh. I confess I didn't watch the entire thing.

So I've just looked it up and the Nintendo Switch OLED (the bigger version with vibration) is $350.00 new. However you can find them used. And the Switch Light is $200.00. The game can be obtained (it said on the site) for $15 when buying the Switch or $60.00 if you just buy the cartridge.

Either way, it's still a lot of money, so true. I was very fortunate in that my boyfriend bought the Switch Lite and the game for me so we could play together (and he was hoping it would help with my anxiety, which it did). And later on my husband bought me the OLED, which he found used for a very good price.

It is a lot though, I agree. It was worth it for me because I played it and got so much out of it for so long. :)

I never played Animal Crossing but I did play Stardew Valley for awhile. Similar concept but different type of environment. I do enjoy playing the survival sandbox games from time to time. I find it relaxing at night while streaming something on TV.

I've seen clips of Stardew Valley; it looks cute and fun. :)

It's basically one developer doing all the work. Very impressive considering it is just him doing most of it. I haven't played in awhile though. I've been playing Valheim lately which is a Norse based survival game. Definingly not cute but a lot of fun...lol.

I've just watched a quick video about this game and it looks like a lot of fun; very immersive. Reminds me a bit of Red Dead Redemption, which I never played, but husband did and enjoyed it quite a lot.

I've played Red Dead Redemption 2 a couple of times. It is a very immersive game. It is a lot like Skyrim only set in the Old West.

Yes! That's what I meant LOL, Red Dead Redemption 2. :)
I've heard of Skyrim but not seen it. -- I'm generally not good at sort of loose end, sand box games, but did well with Animal Crossing because there are set goals to a certain point.

First I ever heard of it Medusa. I mostly play word games and a cross math puzzle. I did keep a few match games, like Mahjong and Mahjong Fantasy after getting tired of other match the items games. For a month or so I've been playing a Balloon match game, which I find very relaxing. I never could get into Candy Crush and Farmville type games, which were all the rage several years ago.

I never got into Candy Crush or other match threes either. Have you tried Fantasy Mosaics? It's a really colorful, fun Sodoku type game.

We like to play poker with 4 decks and tons of wild cards. Win loose by the month.
Some name calling and cussing. Share shuffling to keep it fair.

I never learned to play poker and still don't understand how the hands work. Very much enjoy playing chess (badly) with my son.

Your game nights sound fun. :)

No, that's another game I wasn't aware of. Sudoku frustrates the hell out of me! My granddaughter and honorary daughter (GD's mother) are brilliant and so good at sudoku. I just looked up Fantasy Mosaics on YouTube. Don't think it's for me but you have fun. :D

I haven’t played a video game in about 35 years but sure did get caught up in Mario & Luigi back in the day. Absolutely loved it. So much so that it has crossed my mind to maybe pick up a Nintendo Switch & try it out now as a more uh mature player.

I understand that they’re coming out with Nintendo Switch 2 this year so was thinking i’d probably wait for that should i decide to take the plunge. My biggest reservation other than the greenbacks šŸ˜‚ is that i might not be smart enough to hook it up & figure out the games.

For those that have a Switch, do you play both TV mode and handheld mode?
Any words of wisdom for a wanna be Switch-er?

I have a Switch, but have used it almost exclusively to play Animal Crossing. My BF plays other games though, including Mario Kart, which you might like. There are tons and tons of games you can play on the Switch. As far as playing on TV, I've done that, I think, once. The Switch screen is big enough and, for me, the TV mode is just a novelty.

Before you read this be warned that it is long, rambling and ultimately without any real point. I’m just chatting a little about part of my life.

TLDR:

My husband and boyfriend tried to surprise me on Animal Crossing New Horizons, which was... mostly okay.

My husband is going to have to redo hours of work in the game because his Switch Lite died. And, you know, that’s a drag.

-------

My life is a little strange sometimes.

About two years ago, my boyfriend, who was really into Animal Crossing New Horizons, sent me a Nintendo Switch Lite and the game. Also, he put me on his family plan so I’d have access to the DL content, Paradise Planning, which is large and involved enough to constitute a game in itself.

He was being lovely as he thought it might help with my anxiety, which it has.

After I’d been playing for a few months, my husband, noting how completely immersed in this game I’d become, decided he wanted to try it.

Wait, back up, sometime before that my husband found a deal on a used Nintendo Switch OLED and bought it for me to play the game on. Bigger screen, vibration effects, etc.

K, so husband decides he wants to play and finds a used Switch Lite at a good price and buys it and the game.

He keeps this secret from me.

After some covert talks between my husband and my boyfriend (who lives in England), I find myself, in the game, waiting in my boyfriend’s house, on his island, for some kind of surprise.

I cannot, for the freaking life of me figure out what in Hades he could be surprising me with on Animal Crossing.

Turns out, it was my husband, who with help from my boyfriend, was planning on walking his avatar into the room where I was waiting, to surprise me.

It didn’t actually work as they couldn’t get things lined up somehow -- I don’t know, but we ended up, the three of us, meeting on my husband’s new island, where boyfriend and I gifted husband with some things to help him along the way in the game. (Which I wouldn’t do now because earning things is part of the fun.)

It was a little bit strange for me, that meeting.

So, husband played for a little while and then gave it up. It just didn’t grab him the way it had boyfriend and I.

That was maybe 18 months ago.

Fast forward to about a month ago and husband decides he wants to play again.

I get him all set up with a new start and he’s been having fun with the game since.

We were both surprised at how much he’s enjoying the house decorating and vacation home planning on the DL content, Paradise Planning.

He’s spent hours decorating houses, inside and out, for the various villagers in the game.

Then the very bad thing happened. My husband’s Switch Lite stopped charging. It just won’t. We’ve tried everything, e.g., several different chargers, hard resets, cleaning the charging port, etc. Nothing has worked.

In desperation, my husband called a fix-it place who wanted $180.00 to fix it. He could buy another one for that.

The issue is this: I can and did move his island to the Switch Lite my boyfriend bought for me as I’m not using it right now and this is a good temporary solution.

However, because husband’s Switch is not charging and won't recognize when the charger is plugged in, the system won’t let me transfer his user data, which is connected to the DL content, Paradise Planning.

As mentioned, husband has put hours of work into that part of the game.

The thing is that husband has access to the DL content, Paradise Planning because boyfriend has him, under that user, as part of his, boyfriend’s, family plan with Nintendo.

We haven’t bought the DL content because boyfriend has us covered there.

We were all on the phone last night, (sort of, over Whatsapp audio) searching the net, trying to fix this problem.

Today, however, we’ve had to face that it’s probably not fixable and husband will have to start over with the Paradise Planning part of the game.

Just a bummer.

There’s no actual point to this story other than the light strangeness of my life at times. Sort of odd, polyamorous Animal Crossing connection there.

The meeting on the island, 18 months ago, is the only time husband, boyfriend and I have been in the same, ā€œroom.ā€ Life is weird.

In other Animal Crossing New Horizons news, I leveled my current island about a month ago and have been slowly working on the rebuild.

And Bee Garden.

The Bee garden is actually a lot fuller now, but that's the general idea.

There's also the villager's neighborhood and a little shopping area, but I ran out of picture space. I'm sure you're all devastated not to see them. :ROFLMAO:

The rest of the island, and there is a lot of it, is currently being used for horticulture, namely trees and flowers. I am growing hybrid flowers right now, e.g. blue, black and gold roses, purple tulips and hyacinths, etc.

If you read this, thank you for indulging my ramble and letting me share my love of Animal Crossing. ā¤ļø
