Gone but not forgotten trends

I never had any of that kind of thing, but I did love looking at it, the different black light posters and the great affects they made in the dark. I always wanted to have a black light, but never did.
We had a friend who had one of those popular hanging lamps that flashed colored lights, and it followed along with the beat of the music that they played, and I totally loved that !
Back then, I used to enjoy just sitting in the dark and listening to music, and the lights flashing along with the beat and sound of the music made it even better. I never found one like it, or I would have bought it probably.

I was married and had kids, so I missed most of the Hippie Era stuff like the black lights and Lava Lamps.

Another trend that I haven't thought about in years... I was really good with Clackers... class champion actually. No one could keep them going as long. And then one day I got distracted and nearly took an eyeball out. Those suckers are hard!

Back when clackers where big, Arizona State had a star running back named Darryl Clack. So the university decided to have a "Darryl Clackers" night and hand out clackers to those attending. That was a very annoying night !

Clack went on to NFL and had an early-stage dementia diagnosis 8-9 years ago... from football head injuries. He's written a book.

I was a couple years too young to get into the hole black light, psychedelic poster, and lava lamp decor. When I was a young teen I had a Linda Rundstedt poster on my wall along with a Phoenix Suns pennant. When I went to college and got a cheap studio apartment I got rid of Linda and had a Clash and Pretenders poster on my wall. It was my way of saying that my teen years were over and goodbye to the 70's. I'm an adult now ! 🤣 Of course I was only 18 at the time. I did keep the Suns pennant though !

I never had a room of my own , as a kid I shared my room with the dining room table, and once a week with the laundry room. Later I shared my room with the TV and a couple of chairs. In the morning when I got up I had to turn the bed back into a couch. When I got married I had to share my room with DH. I didn't mind that.

Always entertaining as a child to put a 33 1/3 LP on the turntable and play it on 45 (for chipmunks) or 78 (for ants) lol... Apparently I didn't have enough to do
You just unlocked a memory. There was a rumor that if you changed the speed of the song "Imaginary Lover" by The Atlanta Rhythm Section it sounded like Stevie Nicks was singing the song. Of course I tried it then and it did resemble the sound of her singing. Of course there is a YouTube video about it.

I remember doing this with actual Chipmunk records, playing them on the slower speed (16?) and listened to the guy's actual voice singing the songs a lot slower.

I still have mine! I showed my kid how they worked & my husband asked me how was I going to explain my injury at ER, LOL.

One trendy thing my parents bought for my bedroom at the time was a beanbag chair. I was puzzled then when they bought one and I am still puzzled about it. I guess they thought it was the "groovy" thing to do. They were a little old fashioned but tried to appear to be cool at times. For example they liked dressing up as hippies at Halloween. Anyway, I didn't I use that beanbag chair often. I was only in my bedroom at night either doing homework at my desk or laying in my bed listening to music.

But I would drag the beanbag chair out to the TV room from time to time just to make my parents happy. The couch was always more comfortable though.

I had a picture of the Marlboro man on my bedroom wall. He looked like my boyfriend so he approved. And I had a collection of colorful fragrant essential oils from the local head shop on my dresser. I had the individual pictures of the Beatles that were included in the White Album. Just a typical teenage girl's room of the time.

Mark, now that you brought up age (and this is not a criticism. Just on myself for being so out touch and l really really like you) but l don't understand half the songs you post,

I enjoy a lot of music form the 80's and the 90's. I was in my 20's and 30's during those decades so kept up with the music that was going on at the time.
