Reflections of My Life

This morning when I was having my coffee, it was barely light and I heard someone calling for help. I went to my window and it was someone on the ramp. He was calling for help and for someone to open the door. Said he did not have his key. It was VERY cold, 21 degrees! So I hurried and got my shoes on and went downstairs. It was the guy who lives downstairs and he was on his mobility scooter. He had gone to get coffee and his breakfast and said he left his keys on his table. He was freezing! I am glad I heard him.
 
Well, another month of wondering when our manager will come to work and collect the rent. I always have paid it on time but now there is never someone here to pay it to. The management company, Bryten Real Estate Partners sends me an email trying to get me to pay it online. But........it is an $8.00 fee for me to pay it that way. Not doing that. So I wait. No maintenance either. Not so far today. The maintenance man does not clean the building either (he smokes, talks and is on his phone). I miss our last one.

This is very annoying.
 
You may remember when my building's elevator was down for over a month and we had to have the local news come (and it did help!). The next day this building was on the news telling they had not had an elevator for over five years! They had to use a chair lift to get upstairs. Now they said on fakebook yesterday that the chair lift has been out of order for some time.

I don't live there. The residents that do are the ones who contacted the news. They are in the process of trying to get some things taken care of. They did get a new dumpster delivered the day it was broadcast.

When our elevator was out of order for more than a month we were not able to get anyone in our city to help us. Not the Office for the Aging, not the code enforcement, not the mayor, not the polices.......nobody! We had to call the local news and I was interviewed on television. That afternoon an elevator repairman from Otis (the manufacturer of our elevator) came and fixed it in an hour!

That is awesome you got the result needed. In the past I worked as an intern (legal stuff) for an Area Agency on Aging...

From Christmas Day 2022 to the last day of January my elevator was broken. We begged for it to repaired. I could not leave my floor at all. I cannot do stairs and our stairs are very steep. This used to be a school so not built for seniors. Office of the Aging would not even return our calls! Very disappointed in them. Now I barely use them for anything. Nothing I can think of right now. I do most everything myself and can figure out what will get results. The news video is not of the building I live in. Even though our manager is barely here..........most of the tenants here are doing what we can.

Makes me sad to see they didn't even call you back. Perhaps they are overwhelmed these days, with all the Boomers aging? I think an inquiry need to be logged. Hmmmm...what county do you live in?
 
Interesting the manufacturer Otis sent a repair person...wonder if they just heard the news and decided to come to the rescue, OR if a work order had been already placed...by your complex managers...hmmm. Good that it was repaired though.

I am doing my laundry right now. One of the guys who lives downstairs took the dryers apart and cleaned the inside out, real good. The company who is supposed to do that doesn't do it as good as he does. He cleaned the laundry room and bought big bags for the garbage can in there. There has not been a bag in the can for weeks and people were still throwing trash in it. I can't do a lot to clean the building but I am going to carry a small trash bag and pick up litter and stuff people throw on the floor or ramp. Such a mess and nobody will pick it up.
 
Pretty cold out this morning but I still had to turn my heat down. Too warm for me. Rabbit seems comfortable. He is stretched out and sleeping. His after breakfast nap time. I had to order groceries for my son this morning. So they will be here around 11-1. I took a chance because he needed some food. Yesterday on FB a few people were saying Walmart never delivered their groceries. That they said they did not have enough drivers. So don't know what is going on there. I will just hope for the best.

Today I am going to be working on the bedroom area of my apartment. Right now there is no bed so just a wide open space. Rabbit's cage is there. I am considering getting a bed in the spring. Instead of getting an adjustable one (like I wanted to do) I think I will just get a simple twin size bed. I can just use pillows and a wedge or two. Adjustable beds are just so expensive for me. I would try to get a good mattress. I do not want to order it online. I think I will just get it at my local furniture store because they will set it up for me. Not putting together anything that complicated.
 
My groceries were delivered with no problem and on time. My manager was here today and talked a bit with her in the office while she photocopied my money orders for our rents. She said a new manager is starting at that other building today. So keeping my fingers crossed that it will work out. If we could just keep our manager here at our building and not have to manage other buildings as well. Bryten has no concern for her having health issues and having just lost her husband. Just hire one manager and one maintenance person for each building would be a good start. It is hard to find people who want to do this job.

Right now it is starting to snow harder. I am making a new batch of keto meal replacement shakes for making ice cream. Peanut butter, eggnog, salted caramel (making it into pumpkin spice) and lemon meringue. Did not do everything I planned to do but things came up. Waiting for my box of hay to be delivered. Other than all that, pretty quiet day.
 
I am working on a blog post again this morning. Then going to update some of the links on it. I have to walk out to the dumpster this morning as my garbage bag is full. I will be fixing breakfast soon. I don't know if I mentioned it but I have stopped the Intermittent Fasting. No matter how much of an effort I put into it I just don't get enough food. I need more protein and fat. So will see how this goes.

Having a meeting with the manager today at noon. With her door closed (she said that not me)! Every time I try to talk to her a line of people end up outside her door talking and it is distracting..........and not private! Trying to figure out how much money they owe my son. Not my fault. When he moved in she gave me a paper that said his deposit was $725. and I paid it a hundred dollars a month till it was paid. The last payment I paid was $125. Now she says it should have been only $500. so maybe he will have a credit on his month next month. That would be good. I need to get him a computer, the internet and a phone.

So our building is back to looking much better again. Since the people who live here are cleaning it again. Our maintenance man does not do much and I am not sure why they have kept him. He does not do cleaning. But I am happy to see the halls, public rooms and elevator clean again. This time of year is not easy to do because as soon as you clean it someone comes in from outside and gets it dirty again. Can't help that. Using a walker I try to shake off the wheels on the ramp but still leave a wet trail behind. Salt too.

More coffee for now...........
