Reflections of My Life

@katlupe I enjoy coloring as well. It is very relaxing. I choose different types of books, my favorite books being mandalas.
My granddaughter is five years old and enjoys art projects. For Christmas, I sent her a beautiful box of pencils as well as the coloring books of mandalas for kids. I wasn't sure she would like it or have the adequate dexterity as yet to complete the projects, but she did. She loves it! She sent me 3 complete projects to thank me!
A part of her gift was also a rock painting kit offered by National Geographic for kids bought through Amazon.
Some of my neighbors have been busy painting the rocks and placing them at different spots in the nature around the community. When someone finds one, he/she is supposed to pick it up and place it in another spot. Some of those rocks are so beautiful!
Have you try rock painting?
I have a friend who does rock painting. It was popular for awhile around here but I haven't found many rocks lately. No, I have not tried it myself.

I am not normally into anything artistic but coloring has turned out to be more than that for me. My think time.

I really enjoy the coloring also ! I do not have the actual books, but I can color pictures right on my iPad , and that is what I do. I have an app called Pigment Coloring App, and they have all kinds of pictures, from very simple ones to really complicated ones. So, I can color whatever strikes my fancy at the time.
I like to color before bedtime at night, rather than reading, because it seems to open up my mind and relax it at the same time.
It is like going for a walk, but in my mind.

There was a very dark and anxiety ridden time in my life years ago. Even back then, there were beautiful coloring books and pens. They saved me!

I'm not a fan of adult colouring in any way..I can't pretend I am. if it brings joy to others, good.. but not for me.. however my friend @Happyflowerlady is the exception... you seem to make them look like pieces of art Yvonne...

A lot of that is because the Pigment app has so many different options, @hollydolly ! You can color with paintbrush, airbrush, pencil, oil paints, and even crayons, it just has so many styles and background textures even. I didn’t think that I liked adult coloring either, until I tried that app, and it just helped bring out my love of artwork again.
I am sure that it does the same for @katlupe being able to color actual pages of artwork.

Today is my errand day. Sonny will be picking me up around one. His aide comes today so he has to wait till she is done. Another busy day but should be a good one. I like to get things done.

Yesterday I paid bills, made some meal replacement shakes for ice cream and took the food from the food bank delivery up to my son. Two big boxes and from what I could see one was produce and one was dairy. Then I went back downstairs and got my neighbor's boxes and took them to her. It is easier for me with a walker to do it then her trying to struggle with one box at a time on her mobile chair. She is quite frail. I fit both boxes on the seat of the walker.

On the 14th I have an appointment with the nurse from UHC. So I am writing down any questions I can think of to ask her. I am looking forward to this as she came last year and it was a good appointment. After that I will make an appointment with my doctor so I can take another try at using an aide. Now I have things I am having trouble doing and will give the aide more work. I figure I better get the help while I can.

I am thinking of getting the ingredients today at the store to make a couple of different chicken dishes. Chicken soup is one and the other is a stir fry chicken dish on riced cauliflower. I have gotten away from making anything that takes too much time or effort. Depends on how crowded the store is if I do much shopping. Otherwise I can order more for delivery. If I can experiment with these dishes they could be a good thing to bring to a potluck when we have them.

I did my errands yesterday. It was a pretty good day. Nothing especially exciting to say about it.

I did not get the chicken to make the soup or stir fry. I changed my mind when I looked at the price of the chicken wings. A small package over seven dollars. I'd rather buy a pound of ground beef than that. So did.

One thing I will say about shopping in the store in person (like I used to do for my whole life) I am thankful for the grocery delivery services. It is well worth the money I pay for that. There are a lot of people in my building who do not know how to do it. Just glad I am not one of them. The store was very crowded. I suppose it is good for me to go somewhere once in awhile even if it to do some grocery shopping. So I had my day out and am glad I don't have to go anywhere today. In the snow. Looks pretty heavy.

Hi, Katlupe, and others,
It's very cold here on the Northeast coastline , but not a flake of snow.
None on the ground, none falling and none in the forecast.

I've been ordering groceries online for quite some time, but I always had them picked up in their parking lot.
Now that we dont have anyone to do that, I want to have them delivered. I have not done that before, and dont know if I'd be expected to be able to text the driver.
I think the grocery store here uses Instacart, which I haven't ever used.
I remember that you posted in my thread, that Instacart was easy to use.

Hi Kaila, here's hoping you avoid frozen pipes until you get a nice layer of snow for insulation!
Yes, Instacart is easy to use. And they provide space on your order for any special instructions you may have.

On the Instacart order form there is a place to write out your delivery instructions. Instacart pulls up to my ramp out back and the driver calls me on the phone to tell me they are here. I go downstairs to meet them at the ramp door. Same with Walmart delivery except my instructions is that I will sign for the delivery (so they don't leave it where somewhere can steal it). I meet them downstairs at the front door of my building. I put the groceries on the seat of my walker to bring it upstairs to my apartment. Once you get used to using them it is very easy.

Sonny bought pet stairs for his dog, Cinnamon. Trouble is that she will not go near them. She can go up and down regular stairs with no problems. He is afraid of her jumping up and down off the bed. Yesterday he tried all kinds of ways (that he saw on YT videos) to train her to use the stairs from the bed. Nope. She is not having any of that concerning those stairs. He said they are very sturdy and well made.

Even a little drop of peanut butter on each step won't coax her?

Shout "NO!" when she jumps on the bed? Then, pick her up, put her on the floor, manually push her up the steps, and onto the bed, say, "GOOD GIRL! and give her a treat?

I understand this. My dd has always had little pet steps for her dogs, and especially when they got older... but despite her partner being a dog trainer, there was one dog that they had out of 3 elderly dogs, who just would not attempt the steps.. no matter how much they tried, nope she wasn't having it.. some dogs just don't like those steps for whatever reason

Is there any way to get them to overcome their fear? Sonny is thinking of cutting the legs of his bed (wood furniture) down for her. But then he will have trouble getting up out of the bed himself. He always puts his dog first.

I don't know but I could ask my DD if she knows. She is like Sonny and put her pets first before anyone ... she' only got the one elderly dog now, Pixie.. and she uses the steps ....

My dog used her steps for the couch, but I took them away since she began limping.

Would Cinnamon use a ramp? Mine won't.

I am not sure. She can do stairs because he has some stairs at his front door. He is just afraid she will miss jumping onto the bed in the future. A ramp onto his bed would have to be quite high.

Hi Kaila. We have been using Instacart weekly for two years now. So easy to use and they, ours does, will text you for replacements and let you know when they are on their way. We meet them at the door but have gotten to know a couple drivers quite well and they bring our groceries right in our kitchen. Of course we add a little to their tip. Good luck using them. Pappy.

Maybe, if Sonny can put some large cardboard boxes along the side of the bed , covering everywhere that Cinnamon usually jumps up, and then put the steps in between the boxes, she will see that the only way to get on the bed is to use the stairs. A little treat that she likes at the top of the steps to encourage her to climb up and lots of encouragement when she does try to climb.
If she is small enough to lift, he can also set her on the steps, near the top, so she climbs the last step , and then the dog treat.
Once she gets the idea that climbing the steps equals pets and a treat, maybe she will start liking it better.

Kat...this is the reply from my DD in her text .....

Anything new like that has to be introduced gently in tiny ‘steps’. Sometimes they just don’t like them at all! It might be the angle, or the feel of the fabric for example.

If it were me I’d put them somewhere they can choose to interact with the steps over time - by that I mean even just a sniff. When they do ANyTHING positive to do with or towards the item, then there needs to be a reward or positive fuss. By that I mean even a look. Then progress to a sniff. Next might be their nose touching it. This could take weeks….. if they progress to the dog then not being worried about the stairs, perhaps try putting them next to the sofa and then start from square 1 again back to the basics….. eventually they may get to where the dog will put a paw on the steps and even up them onto the sofa.

If they managed that then they can try moving it back to the bedroom and start again. At the moment it sounds like the location and item are tainted.

Pixie for example used the steps I’ve got for the bed for probably 10 years or more - then a couple months ago for some reason she just refused to use them anymore. I had to replace them with a different type in the end as she was too worried about using them

Thank you for asking her! I just copied that and sent to Sonny.
