Reflections of My Life

I have done a pretty good job of going through my pile of papers. Most of it went in the trash. Anything with my name and address on it, even junk mail I cut up in tiny pieces. I meant to buy a paper shredder but really don't want to spend the money for it. I can cut it up for now. My friend upstairs soaks all his junk mail in water in the sink for a few hours then puts it in the garbage. That is too messy for me! I haven't seen anyone digging through our dumpster lately. You can tell by the fact that it is clean around it for now. When they go through it they make a horrible mess all around it.

New Year's Eve used to be such a big deal for me. Used to always have big plans.........fancy clothing, dinner out, dancing, music, then breakfast. I imagine what that cost and makes me cringe. But at least I didn't pay for it. My husband did. Then in my last marriage we never did any of that stuff. Just made a big meal. No drinking. Most of the time we didn't even stay up till midnight. Life on a homestead has its priorities.

I am starting another "No Spend" month. Not that unusual for me anymore. I do it a few times through out the year. It is like a game to see how little I can spend that month. If I really need something it is already on my budget plan. If not, it can wait till next month. Many times I find I don't even need it and don't buy it.

Happy New Year's Eve to all my friends who take the time out of their days to read this diary every day. I hope it is a good year and keep thinking positive. If you believe it will be a positive day every morning when you get up.......it will be so!
I guess I'm on a round about 'No Spend" month because I'm trying to use up food and things. Mostly from the holidays where I buy too much "just in case" .
Also, a bad habit of freezing from the garden and not using it up before the garden starts producing again. Mostly peppers which are great to cook with but I have to remember to do it.
I'm going to keep going through the freezer and stay out of the grocery store except for essentials.

I used to can all of my garden produce. For one thing I did not have a freezer. Just a solar refrigerator. I remember I was on a Cajun kick and canned small jars of the "Cajun Trinity" (celery, onion & bell pepper). I would never give or throw away my excess. Canned everything. Including winter squashes, pumpkins and zucchini, even though "they" (USDA) said not to can those. They said they came out mushy. Mine didn't because I took all the seeds out and cut them in chunks. They were firm when you opened the jar a year or two later. I do miss gardening and canning but I could not do the work involved now.

Thank you for all the Happy New Year wishes!

I am looking forward to a productive year and accomplishing a number of my goals on my list. Every year I look forward with hope and focus on things to make my life happier and easier. I don't need much and am quite comfortable but you never know what lies ahead.

Hope your New Year's Eve is whatever you want it to be. Just be safe!

My New Year's Day started out with me hearing a big bang outside. At 12:30 AM. The power went off at the same time. No storm or anything. I got up and unplugged everything but the refrigerator (the plug is behind it and I have no way to reach it). I went back to sleep. Then around 2:30 the refrigerator started running and woke me up. I didn't get up till this morning and then plugged everything back in. Fixed the time on the clock on the stove because it was flashing.

I don't know what happened to cause that but when I go to fakebook I will probably find out. I had three emails from Spectrum telling me they had an outage my internet is down. By the time I looked at the emails I of course, had internet again (or I would not be reading my emails!).

I am excited to take down all my Christmas decorations this morning. Put them away and get back to normal.

I took down my decorations and now have to get them back downstairs to my storage locker. Getting ready to do that.

For some reason or other my pierced hole on one of my ears must have closed up. I am still trying to poke the earring in it. But if I can't get that done I will need to go somewhere to get it pierced. I have tons of earrings and like to wear them.

I have a ring I want to take to my local jeweler to have one of the stones reset. It came out and I have it. I haven't been able to wear that ring for years because of that one little stone. I will call there this week and find out how much it would cost. Once I see his prices maybe I will have some other stuff worked on. Watches. Not sure about my other rings. If I could get them resized to a larger size. They fit my left hand but not the right. And the right hand is where I used to wear these particular rings.

This sounds like a good plan to let your treasures back into your life.

Try oiling the earring's shaft and try a back-and-forth screwing motion rather than pushing straight through. Keep trying --the piercing will open eventually.
Preferably use an earring with a narrow shaft --that would be 10k or 14k gold.

I enjoy coloring in adult coloring books. As I color I think about things or make plans for things I want to do. When I color I go through the book from page one to the last page in order. I don't take the pictures out of the book. My rule is not to look through the book. So I never know what the next picture will be.

Sometimes it is a picture that I hate. Too much teeny tiny details. I will start coloring it thinking to myself how I hate this picture and want to just get it done. After I have a colored a fourth of the picture, I begin to like it. The color transforms the picture to an amazing picture. By the time I finish coloring it I love it.

Life is like that for me. I will start doing something thinking how hard it is to do. Then about halfway through it I start doing it eagerly. My keto journey has been like that. Moving here was another thing I did which was very hard to do. Right now my project of getting rid of extra things and organizing everything in my apartment is like that.

My African Violets fall into that category also. They were not looking as good since I transplanted them into self-watering pots. Not even blooming like they used to. These plants have bloomed almost all year long. Last week one of them (the oldest one that belonged to my father) had its leaves all leaning over the side of the pot. Looked like it was on death's door.

So I was thinking I would be throwing it out and maybe the other one too. Tired of taking care of them. Yesterday when I watered them they were looking better and the leaves were standing up again. Maybe they just needed more water. Then I notices blossoms coming up on both of them! Maybe they were just getting used to the new pots and soil. Patience and hope. That is the story of my own life......

@katlupe I enjoy coloring as well. It is very relaxing. I choose different types of books, my favorite books being mandalas.
My granddaughter is five years old and enjoys art projects. For Christmas, I sent her a beautiful box of pencils as well as the coloring books of mandalas for kids. I wasn't sure she would like it or have the adequate dexterity as yet to complete the projects, but she did. She loves it! She sent me 3 complete projects to thank me!
A part of her gift was also a rock painting kit offered by National Geographic for kids bought through Amazon.
Some of my neighbors have been busy painting the rocks and placing them at different spots in the nature around the community. When someone finds one, he/she is supposed to pick it up and place it in another spot. Some of those rocks are so beautiful!
Have you try rock painting?
