Yes, They Have No Bananas

So, it's grocery day. I actually got my cage-free eggs for $3.74 ... 🥚🍳 no supply or price issue there. Nice surprise.

BUT... yes, they had no bananas 🍌🍌 and no explanation why. I first thought the dock strike happened, but that was settled on the 9th. If there was a recall, I haven't heard about it. Strange. Besides eggs, anyone else having trouble with supply at the grocery store?

I think that most markets have automated their inventory to the point that they no longer keep much on hand in the back room.

It seems that there are always one or two out of stock or low inventory items.

Quite often the local Wegman’s is out of Dawn Platinum.

When possible, I try to keep a backup of my favorites on the emergency shelf or in the freezer.

In the flip side some of my old favorites that have been missing since the pandemic are making a comeback.

I was happy to see the chicken biscuits from Jimmy Dean make a comeback.

It seems arbitrary, the things the stores are out of; sometimes it's my favorite yogurts, others, my leave-in conditioner. Seems that it's becoming usual though, such that it's not surprising the store was out of this or that or this and that.

I always order online with Walmart+, and they do not allow substitutions for products. A lot of the time, they are out of basic things, like a loaf of bread, or creamer for my coffee. I have started ordering two kinds of bread, in the hopes of getting at least one loaf delivered.
It is pretty random what they are out of each time, so it is not like there is a shortage on any particular food, just not enough in supply.

Some foods they ship to me, no matter what. If I order a jar of green olives, they will arrive 3 days later, shipped by Fed-ex. I am sure that they have jars of green olives there, if I went to the store, and they bring me larger items in jars, like dill pickles; so I have no idea why they ship the olives.

I shop at Publix supermarkets. I also noticed that they are out of stock of my favorite items, or they do not order enough of the weekly sale products, or do not stock enough of in demand products. Sometimes I feel that we are back in the pandemic era! This phenomenon could be proper to my area Publix only, I do not know.

Main grocery shopping at Walmart. Yes, they are out of random things from time to time. But my biggest gripe is they move things around frequently. It seems to be part of their business plan and may do it on purpose. I find that I glance at products I would otherwise pay scant attention to if headed to a spot where the product I'm looking for is always located ... but moved. Then I become a wanderer.

Costco was completely out of salmon last week, and there was a very small supply of other kinds of fish. When I asked about it, they had no explanation.

About the price of eggs, Radish Rose, I'd be happy to get eggs for $3.00. Last week I paid over $6.00 for Eggland's Best extra large. I know I don't have to get that brand, but they really are top quality, and I've gotten spoiled. I don't like any other brand. We'll probably be stuck with those prices forever.

I often find that they're out of some product I need/want, but it just struck me as odd that there were no bananas. Never saw that happen before. Eggs... yeah, it annoys me, too. A very short time ago (like less than 2 years) I was paying 99 cents or $1.25 for jumbo.

Publix here have not stocked some of my favorite products in quite a while and once gone, they are gone.
@Rae It used to be that they would issue you a rain check for the products that were not available!
Also, if you wanted a certain product when they did not carry in the store, you could ask them to get it for you.
I am not sure if those services are still available to the customer.

I asked about the apple fritters and donuts but they said it was up to the company to decide to continue making them. I really miss the apple fritters. If they do not have something for some time, I look the product up on Google and it says they do not make the product any more. I might try asking about some of the other items, though.

I can still get bananas ok but NO blackberries anywhere for over a week. I'll just eat other fruits. eggs are $10.00 a dozen.

Drum roll please... I prefer to make my own.

1 1/2 Cups of All Purpose Flour
1/2 Cup of Semolina Flour
1 Tablespoon of Granulated Sugar
1 Tablespoon of Baking Powder
1 Tablespoon of Salt
6 Tablespoons of Ice Cold Grated Salted Butter
3/4 Cup of Ice Cold Milk

Pre-heat the oven to 425°. Place your Grated / Sliced / cut into teeny pieces of Salted Butter and the milk into your Freezer while the oven is pre-heating, and mix the dry ingredients. When the oven is pre-heated, add the Butter and Milk and the dry ingredients, and fold the dough. Don't over do it. Cut out individual biscuits, then take the leftover dough and roll it into Biscuit Sticks. You can also make the entire batch into biscuits, kids love them that way.

Bake at 425° until golden brown. Remove from the oven, paint the tops with melted butter and feast...

Then, if I am in too much pain to do all that, I just bake some Pillsbury Grands. They're not quite the same, but they ain't bad for pre-made dough. 👨‍🍳

If I make them, I’ll eat them. 🐷🐷🐷

Individual servings work best for me. 😉🤭😂
