Getting tattoos, are they addictive?

no twisting of your words or putting them in your mouth

Of course you are twisting my words—how else could you come to such a conclusion? Let me remind you exactly what I said: "To me, tattoos are like a physical deformity and a big turnoff, and I think any woman who either has them or wants them needs to have her head examined." I was crystal clear, and nothing in my statement suggests I applied this opinion broadly to everyone or for reasons as petty as mere dislike. If you're going to engage in a discussion, at least have the integrity to address what I actually said, not some distorted version that suits your narrative.

Your exact words. At least have the integrity to own them.

No, women dont need their head examined if they have tattoos or want to get them.

This is hijacking thread now,and in your own words, exhausting - but not so exhausting that you stopped responding 🤷‍♀️

I am leaving this alone now unless anyone else has anything new to say.

I see that you’re up to your old tricks and once again attempting to misrepresent my statement by quoting only part of it and removing the specific context about tattoos. My full sentence—'To me, tattoos are like a physical deformity and a big turnoff, and I think any woman who either has them or wants them needs to have her head examined'—made it perfectly clear that I was expressing my opinion about tattoos specifically. I never said or implied that anyone needed their head examined just because they did something I disliked.

All I will say is, I will never understand the desire to get tattoos. One or two is acceptable in my opinion. But to cover the entire body with ink not only has to be a mental health issue but also a physical health issue, eventually. Especially tattoos on the face and head. All these people with massive tattoos covering most of their skin are probably going to need a hematologist in their near future. I cannot believe that ink doesn't affect the blood somehow.

Funny thing is it has become very much in vogue in last 10 years or so and here you even see Seniors getting them .

I won't post a picture (though I could) but it's gone beyond that. People are having their ears removed. They're having their nose removed. It's all part of the "body modification" group.

If people get tattoos done by accredited tattooists with accredited sterility standards - there is no increased risk of blood disorders

Backyard tattoos do carry a risk of blood borne diseases like Hep C

the only health risk I know of is skin cancers - tattoos do not increase your risk but they can make it harder to notice changes in your skin and therefore things not noticed until later.

January, let me be crystal clear: my comment was about my personal aversion to tattoos, not some universal judgment. If you took it as something else, that’s on you, not me. Twisting my words into a broad condemnation fits the definition of a straw man—misrepresenting my stance to argue against something I didn’t actually say.

If you're determined to argue against an interpretation I’ve explicitly clarified as incorrect, then we're not having a discussion; you're just putting words in my mouth. That’s not productive, and frankly, it’s exhausting.
January won't quit, likes to be right. Oslooskar, I saw how you meant it, January just can't see past own ego.

I deleted my post #82 above because it was accidentally posted to the wrong thread. There is a new thread on this subject here.

To me tattoos (as well as piercings) are some sort of trendy statement thing.

When I see someone with tattoos I do not think: "That is a smart person who has good judgement".

I was helping treat a young 18 woman in the ER one late evening.
She was being treated for a left nipple piercing that had been ripped out by a seat belt during a car accident in which she was the driver.
Piercing of any sort are a mess when the piercee least expects.

Nose piercings make me laugh. All I can think about is bulls in the stockyard.

Could you explain this comment please - seems rather strange personal comment to post.
You argued with me once somewhere in SF and you simply could not or would not see my intent in my post, so I just gave up. It reminds me of when I was teaching young college students: they could not see the forest for the trees, or accept anything except their own interpretation. That is you. Doggedly determined to be right, even when you are wrong. An observation.

Well you can always put me on ignore if you want to

but please don't make personal comments or 'observations' - that just hijacks a thread.- stick to posting about the topic not the poster.

I will not engage further but will report any others.

I am a fish fanatic notice you are in Thailand .

I ordered not long ago killifish eggs from Australia and Thailand .

Getting a tattoo could nearly triple your risk of certain cancers, a fascinating study on thousands of people suggests.

Danish and Finnish scientists analysed data from over 2,000 twins, comparing cancer rates in those who inked up versus those that didn't.

They found participants with any tattoo were up to 62 per cent more likely to be diagnosed with skin cancer.
But for those with body art larger than the palm of a hand, the risk of skin cancer increased by 137 per cent and for lymphoma, a type of blood cancer, the risk soared to 173 per cent.

They said their findings were concerning given the rising popularity of tattoos in European nations, particularly among younger generations.

The authors said tattoos may increase cancer risk due to ink entering the bloodstream and accumulating in the lymph nodes — glands that are a vital part of the body's immune system.

The dye could trigger chronic inflammation, leading to abnormal cell growth and an increased risk of cancer, the researchers said.
Experts discover people with tattoos are at double the risk of cancers

from linked article - states similar to what I said upthread - tattoos do not increase your risk of getting skin cancers - but they do sometimes make changes in your skin less noticeable so skin cancers are not diagnosed until later - and of course early diagnosis and treatment is much better.

This is just my personal opinion. I find tattoos disgusting. If I were single, they would be an immediate disqualifier for anyone I thought about dating. Of course I would never get one.

People are free to get them and I am free to avoid people that have them, if I possibly can.

When I was in my teens it was a fad to get a tat with your girlfriends iinitials, which I did in green ink, then split up with her days later. I did such a crappy job it came off with a little soap & water. I've never wanted one since. You could've covered it with a dime. Both daughters have small ones, my son has none.

Regardless, I for one! Agree people with tattoos "needs to have her head examined"

They are 'sick' indeed!
