Homeaglow Are Theives

As a driver of a wheelchair now (long story, maybe later) I got In Home Support Services because I have Medicare. It's great program, but there is one major problem with it. Just about everyone that we found who is willing to do that kind of work is scamming the system in one way or another. Over the years we had many different workers.

One girl was kind of scatterbrained, but she was honest and the only reliable one. We kind of had to babysit her to keep her working, but other than that she was ok. She worked for my wife for about a year. The rest of them I have nothing good to say about. I still try to find someone to work for me, but all I'm finding is people who say they want the job then you never hear from them again...

A really horrible experience. I booked the initial cleaning online. My cleaner arrived late and I have a high suspicion that she was using drugs. I'm an EMT, I know the signs. After expressing my dissatisfaction, I was offered a credit towards another cleaning. I declined the offer and terminated our relationship. Now, months later, I find that I have been getting billed $51.20 per month for the past 4 months.
After contacting Customer Service (in name only), Emma informed me that I had joined some "ForeverClean" program and that there would be a cancellation fee.
There are so many house-cleaning options available, STAY AWAY FROM HOMEAGLOW !!!
They are a rip-off and should not be allowed to continue doing business.

Totally with you, this is a scam!

Their website advertises a max $20/hr fee if you sign up for their services. They claim 100% of the cleaner fee goes to the cleaner. In signing up, you agree to pay a monthly subscription fee and in turn get a severely reduced initial cleaning cost. Ok, that I agree to, that’s clearly stated.

What’s not clearly stated is an additional processing fee, which at the time was 15% of the cleaners hourly rate, added each time you have someone out. They claim this is in their agreement but no where is there mention of this % specifically, and when it’s charged. There’s a blanket statement about the right to charge monthly costs, but that led me to assume it referenced the monthly fee that they claim is for their service, to connect you with cleaners. They also don’t cap your cleaner charge at $20/hour. If you can find someone for that price great, if not, too bad, you pay a higher hourly fee.

Also, they state that if you cancel your membership within 6 months you have to pay the difference between what that initial cleaning would have cost and what you paid. Ok so my cleaner confirmed with me that her normal rate was $25/hr. She was out for 4 hours so $100 total. I paid $39 so the most I should owe is $61. Their website indicated I had saved $120 on this first service. Even if you include their 15% fee, making the total $115 ($100 * 1.15), I shouldn’t owe them more than $76. Nope. They came back with $231.00 (($25.00 cleaner + $30.00 platform)/hr x 4 hrs + 5% transaction fee) - I cannot even. So they pad the initial cleaner fee/hr, add another huge “platform” cost PER HOUR and a transaction fee, thus stating I owe $192 to cancel early.

Once all this deceptive stuff began happening I went and researched this company in depth. I probably should have done this before (no judgement here, I know I messed up) but I read all their fine print and took screenshots of everything they stated on their website so I thought I was safe. Anyways, this company appears to have been organized previously by the same owner. That startup raised $50M in startup capital and then very quickly, magically folded claiming the company model failed. Also they are currently amidst several lawsuits specifically relating to their shady business practices, both with their clients and their cleaners.

When I complained about these deceptive practices (including sending them screenshots showing what they advertised and pointing out how it differed after I signed up), they tried to accommodate me by reducing my monthly subscription fee by ~$9 and offering me an additional cleaning voucher for free services. I took this as acknowledgment of wrong doing. I told them I wanted my membership cancelled, referencing their current litigation issues and past history of ripping people off, and that I would not authorize any additional payments beyond $76 (which included that stupid % processing fee). I told them if they tried to take more I’d report them for fraud. Here’s their response:

1. I have further reduced your monthly fee from $41.65/mo to $24.50/mo (taxes may apply).
2. I have further reduced your minimum commitment term from 5 paid months to just 4 paid months.
3. I have reduced your early termination fee to $100.
4. I have upgraded your 1-hour voucher to 3 hours which will apply to your next appointment with us.

And then they temporarily cancelled my membership/cleaning plan and I haven’t received any further charges. So at least that’s good. But look at that above, that’s desperation….trying to keep me from reporting them, and to keep me on the hook so they can charge me more (they claim the % processing fee can change at any time so what’s to stop them from jacking that up whenever they feel like it?).

Be aware people. Do your research and steer away from this company - I say this to both potential clients and cleaners alike.

All the big complaints here are from one-and-done posters, all with the same M.O. Detailed complaint about a terrible experience with this company, then vanish into thin air. A few months later, different SF name, but same basic story.

As an aside, I've had cleaners come to my house over the years. None recently though. I always hired people who were highly recommended by friends who'd used their services for many years. Never considered Merry Maids, Home Aglow, or other cleaning companies who charge a lot more and end up paying the cleaners a lot less.

I have a local gal who is highly recommened. We were both both here. She has been with me for 5 yrs now and never lets me down. She does more than she has to. I am blessed to have her.
