Where does God live?

You are kind and understanding of the scientists that I would call arrogant and prideful with the pride that goeth before the fall, and the laypeople that I would call lazy and bone headed.
Charlatans are everywhere. They are in science as well as religion. And no, I don't hold scientists that think they know it all with any higher regard than I have for a television evangelist. But the process weeds out it's own mistakes, not always right away. When I was in grade school, plate tectonics was rejected by most scientists as laughable, even though technicians in the oil industry knew you had to take tectonics into account to find oil. Thirty years later it was almost totally accepted. And forty years after it was accepted, speed of drift can actually be measured using GPS. Religion doesn't adapt that fast.

What now, they have slowed light down to 65 KPH, in the lab?
One may think nothing is for Certain, just problematic, averaged, be dammed!
It's a sunny day, then cloudy, then rainy, stormy, Tornadic day. Safe at home?
Blame it all on the Weather girl and the blue screen.

"Why did you leave Wisconsin Weather girl and apply here in Arizona?"
"The weather there didn't agree with me?

Umm .... Darkness is merely the absence of light. It doesn't travel.
Light has a source it is traveling from. Darkness has no source. It doesn't move.

Imagine you hold in your hand, a light that's powerful enough to reach the planet Jupiter. Imagine also that it casts that beam in a cone that's broad enough to cover the entire diameter of the planet. When you pass your finger over the lens, the shadow (darkness) will cross the entire diameter of the planet — a distance of 86,881 miles. The speed of light is 186,000 miles per second. So, if it takes you less than half a second to move your hand that distance, then that shadow (darkness) will have "broken" the speed of light.

Science says that nothing can move faster than the speed of light? Well, that's the key. Shadows (darkness) are the absence of something ... specifically, photons, or particles of light. Since there's nothing that's actually traveling the distance, the only thing that's "moving" is an area where photons aren't. There's no information that's being transmitted faster than light, only a blockage of information. That means your interplanetary shadow-puppet show doesn't break any physical laws ... only the hearts of your interplanetary audience.

But, the only thing to make that work would be a laser, but it would have burnt your hand to a cinder simultaneously in proving your thought of the theory. Thus, some minutes into the future you would get to see your hands shadow fall onto the Surface of Jupiter. Or not if you fainted.
Also, possibly some essence of your hand, blood, nerves, fingernails would have arrived at Jupiter thus proving Mans hand is fast as a laser light.

Thanks for sharing that.

lF I live believing and then die but find nothing, what have l lost?
Blaise Pascal (1623-1662) offers a pragmatic reason for believing in God: even under the assumption that God’s existence is unlikely, the potential benefits of believing are so vast as to make betting on theism rational.

Although critics in have raised a number of now-classic challenges to Pascal's Wager, I would say you haven't lost much, unless you actually left your wager in the hands of an impartial 3rd party that would distribute your children's inheritance to a Satanic cult in the event you were wrong. But the whole argument on both sides is silly in my opinion, because beliefs are not something we arrive at by choice. We have them because we believe them, not because "we've pridefully got it all figured out," as rbtvgo would say.

If your belief gives you comfort while you are alive, it's one thing you can enjoy while you are on Earth, even if there is nothing after you're gone. So enjoy it while you can.

The philosopher Rene Descartes deduced that the "seat of the soul" was located in man in the pineal gland, which is located in the center of the brain, more or less. If you listened to the old rock group, The Moody Blues, specifically the album, In Search of the Lost Chord, a song said, "Between the eyes and ears there lie, the sounds of color, and the light of a sigh." --a point of attention and effect of meditation.

Typically, other than knowing that this gland produces a few hormones--one being that of possibly a powerful hallucinogen, and one as a regulator of sleep, science has no idea why we even have this gland/organ. But to the point, this is Mr. Descartes input on where the soul resides. And, since the soul is a sliver, if you will, of God--thus God--this is a prime location for you, and one I tend to agree with for myself. It is actually a very interesting gland in the body, often called the Third Eye, and used as a point of meditation. Interestingly, considering its location, it actually contains rods and cones as would be found in the retinas of one's eyes, therefore, capable of perceiving light.

Here is a good page on Descartes and the pineal gland if you're interested.

Descartes and the Pineal Gland (Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy)
It was an interesting philosophy from a great philosopher. However, using knowledge from the early 1600's it's not surprising that misinformation (Or lack of it) would lead to his conclusion that was little more than a guess, especially since it may support his pre-existing beliefs of dualism.

I imagine any part of the brain could be thought of to harbor a spiritual soul if one believes that essence is there. A gland the size of a grain of rice that has a purpose of regulating sleep/wake cycles seems as a rather odd place to me, but I suppose no one could prove otherwise.

It still causes me to wonder though whether that philosophy entails the concept of physical particles of God, or simply God energy housed in this tiny organ, or it is an organ that can be God-modified once a person believes (Physically enhanced). It would seem that if it is physically different in believers, that it would show up in brain scans and autopsies, but who knows. Interesting to think about though.

I profess to being ignorant of all the discussions put forth by all the scholars and wise thinkers over the years. The debates, one against the other. Invigorating discussion but of what use. You win, the other loses. They win, you lose.
End result is you still do not have the answers you are looking for. Isn't that interesting.
You win the debate and you are still left with your basic concerns.
The one true God created this world, created you and I and has no other Gods to contend with. He is the great "I am".
Make it as complicated as you want but you will never find peace in your conclusions.
Is God accessible, yes. Call out and wait. You will get a response. Maybe not what you expect. Maybe not what you wanted but he will respond.
If you are truely searching, you will know. If not, if you expect certain answers then no, you will not hear him.
Can't make it any plainer. You are the creation, not the creator. You did not conceive yourself. So who did?
Why are you here?
Have to dig deeper than ancient profits and scholars. Have to dig into yourself. Therein lies the path to understanding.

I wonder if it sounded as ridiculous then as it does now.

Reported on various sites just this month ...
Scientists claim to have discovered evidence of 'soul' leaving the body when we die
You will find other site links to this particular study if you look around.
There have been earlier similar studies as well, with somewhat collaborating conclusions if you look for them.

Dr. Stuart Hameroff's theory argues that consciousness exists on a quantum level, separate from the physical brain, and when we die, this information “distributes and dissipates into the universe.” In simple terms, it’s possible that what makes us us ... our soul ... is not bound by our mortal frame.

This echoes a truth found in Ecclesiastes 12:7: “Then the dust will return to the earth as it was, and the spirit will return to God who gave it.”

In a culture increasingly driven by skepticism, these findings should make us pause. If science is now catching glimpses of the soul’s departure, how much longer will there be those who ignore the truth that has been in front of us all along?

I had the same nonsense taught to me as well. And I believed it for years. Starting when I was about 6, I spent two months of the summer with my grandparents in different parks around the country. Then when I was 11 or 12 years old we went to Yellowstone. When I wasn't out riding my bike all over the Geyser Basins, I'd be sitting at the visitor center they volunteered in reading many of the books they had for sale. I was fascinated by Yellowstone.

What I didn't know was, every time I took a serious interest in a book, my grandmother bought it for me and sent them all to me for Christmas in my snowed in clearing of the cornfield I grew up in Illinois. I read them all over and over. But back then, I never heard the word "Supervolcano", I don't even think it was a word yet. I knew Yellowstone was a volcano, and that was huge because of the 30 x 40 mile caldera. But now I know what really makes Yellowstone tick.

Now that plate tectonics is accepted and understood, I know that the Yellowstone Hot Spot used to be over by Eureka. It was millions of years before Eureka was ever even thought of, but it was there. According to Nick Zentner, Geology Instructor at Central Washington University, due to what he referred to as the "Circular Rotation of the Pacific Northwest", the caldera that resulted from a explosion for the hotspot used to be somewhere near Eureka 55 million years ago, is now somewhere up by Tillamook, Oregon.

If you go in for that sort of thing, he has a bunch of Geology Lectures on YouTube. I particularly like his Supervolcanoes lecture.

Think that hell hole is gradually moving northeast over the centuries, the plate Techtonics above move past it. U see It doesn't move, the crust above it does. It's fueled by the secrete lava exhaust. So those plates seem to move south west / it goes northeast toward Canada. Scientist record it moving northeast side of the Caldara now. One day it will touch the oil and chalk-o-off the scale things went again. Earth isn't alive, its the
reality of Hell, really!

Our views of God, physics or anything and everything else ultimately depends on perspective and context.
Science will tell you that light travels faster than anything. But that is wrong.
No matter how fast light travels, it finds darkness has always gotten there first, and is waiting for it.

Are you mixing science and philosophy here? I don’t mean are you getting them mixed up -- I mean are you intentionally blending them together? There’s a subtle difference. Maybe it’s just me, but I’m struggling to fully grasp your post.

Science will tell you that light travels faster than anything. But that is wrong.

I personally wouldn't see it that way. I believe that science is telling me that our universe has a Speed Limit -- limited by Space-Time. This Space-Time limits the speed of everything in the universe, including light. Light itself isn't the speed limit, but simply something that travels through Space-Time. The photons of light act both as particles and as a waveform. Specifically, particles that have no mass (have no weight). I'm not sure what you are suggesting is wrong. What am I missing?

No matter how fast light travels, it finds darkness has always gotten there first, and is waiting for it.

I see it as darkness as simply being an absence of photons in any given space, or an absence of anything for light to absorb or reflect from. I don’t see darkness as something actively 'waiting.' But I could see how it might work as a metaphor. Is that what you meant?"

As I see it, anything traveling at the speed limit imposed by space-time means that if a photon of light is traveling at that speed (186,282.397 miles per second through a vacuum), there is no room left for 'time.' All the 'speed' is taken up, and therefore there’s no place left for 'time' to fit into.

If we could somehow observe a photon leaving the Sun, it would take about 8 minutes and 20 seconds to reach Earth from our 'stationary' perspective. But if we were somehow able to travel side-by-side with the photon, we would arrive on Earth at the exact same time the photon left the Sun. To us, the journey would be instantaneous, as our high speed would effectively remove 'time' from our perspective

The Photon is distorted in flight by gravity proving it has some immensurable bit of some kind of weight.
Don't photons turn into momentary electrons if the circumstances prevail and the force of the atom hold
them until they get more energy? So unless there is magnetism the energy of the electron becoming a photon
overcomes the molecular force of the Atom? Doesn't energy claim the orbits levels of the electrons.
Magnetism may one day come back to the forefront of Space time too?

I always sort of like the explanation of Deep space as being Ether. Having much energy in it per given size measured.

Intended as a metaphor. There are those in "darkness" ... a metaphor. And they wait for the light.
It was a light I moved toward in my near death experience ... or maybe it moved to me.
Nevertheless, the light grew in brightness until there was no more darkness.
That is until He sent me back away from the light and along a long dark "tunnel" to awaken wondering why i went to sleep talking on the telephone.
It was not a light that science has yet measured ... as far as I know. And certainly not bound by physical laws.
Why I tossed in the words perspective and context.

My higher power did not tell me His name. Nor did He espouse a particular religion.
I've thought it to be a spiritual experience rather than religious.

There are those who snip and scoff at the truth and profound personal experience I've shared.
To me it is all negative energy and maybe I need to back away for a bit from this thread and cleanse myself of that energy.
I have no compelling need to defend what I have experienced or my perceptions.
Nor do I wish to dissect it and debate it with minutia ad nauseam.

Guess if anyone is looking for me, I'll be bathing in the stream of consciousness.
A clean soul is a happy soul ;)
