How do you prepare for winter?

My husband and I decided to move south 4 years ago. We thought of being snow-birds but I didn't like the idea of living in two different places. Now, there isn't much to prepare for winter except for winter jackets and layers. It does get cold here in Texas in the winter but the winter doesn't last very long. We do keep a couple of emergency blankets and warm hats in the car. Just wondering if other seniors 'tough it out' for the winter.

I usually begin in June - I start feeding the sled-dogs a high-fat diet to prepare them for the 6 months of winter.

The drifts aren't much of a problem anymore - not since we picked up that great used flamethrower on Craigslist. Yeti sightings have been dropping steadily over the past few years too, but it's still not a good idea to leave the dogs outside unattended for any length of time.

My lady-friends all up their intake of blubber early in September, in order to cut back on my heating bills. They tend to burn it off rather quickly chopping all that wood for the stove, though, so that's one problem I still have to solve. Maybe Santa will bring them a few chainsaws this year and retire those ancient double-bladed axes.

Other than those few actions, we do nothing special.

We're in Colorado, and many of our winters are pretty mild here. Although we have had some good snow blizzards over the years, it's very sunny here year-round, so the snow melts fairly quickly. There's a problem sometimes though, with the melting and re-freezing, causing slippery walking and driving conditions. We have good 'Duo-Fold" long johns and weather appropriate boots to wear when needed. We only have one home, but love the four seasons, and enjoy our winters. :)

Your lady-friends need to turn the double-bladed axes over to you...that way they won't burn all that precious blubber fat, and you can stay warmer tending the fire, let's give poor Santa a break. :playful:

See, the whole idea is that I DON'T WORK - anything that disrupts that central idea is certain death for us all. A King's time is far too valuable to waste on mere menial labor.

SifuPhil - build your igloo yet?

Here's an article on how to build an igloo in 14 steps: http://www.wikihow.com/Build-an-Igloo

With all them-there lady friends of yours with all their blubber, you may need several rooms to your igloo. Step 13 shows how to add on more rooms to your igloo.

Not sure if I can find an article for building an ice throne for your igloo and I am not going to be bothered to look for such an article - King SifuPhil.

That was really cool - thank you! As for the ice throne - I'll probably just take my regular throne outside and throw some water on it. And I am honored that you have learned to use my correct title - perhaps there is a place for you in my ice harem ... do you like to eat blubber? ;)
