Climate Change is in Turbo Mode.

Further on the great green Germany...

Germany is in an energy crisis, as wind and solar fail to provide adequate power

Germany, once celebrated as Europe’s green energy pioneer, is now grappling with a self-inflicted energy crisis that threatens its economy, environment and geopolitical standing. The country’s ambitious transition to renewable energy, while commendable in its intent, has exposed the vulnerabilities of a system overly reliant on intermittent sources like wind and solar.

The term Dunkelflaute — meaning “flat, dark calm” — has become synonymous with Germany’s energy woes. These periods, characterized by a simultaneous lack of wind and sunlight, are particularly severe during winter months when energy demand peaks. On December 12, 2024, Germany’s wind and solar power production plummeted to just a fraction of its needs, highlighting the precariousness of its energy grid.

Despite renewable energy accounting for nearly 60% of Germany’s electricity production in the first half of 2024, these figures mask the reality of intermittent supply. For instance, on December 12th of this year, German electricity production from wind and solar power was 1/30th the demand for it. During Dunkelflaute episodes, wind and solar production can drop to less than 20% of capacity, forcing the country to rely on coal, lignite, and energy imports from France, Denmark, and Poland.

The economic consequences of Germany’s energy policies are staggering. Household electricity prices in 2024 averaged €400/MWh, peaking at €900/MWh during crises — three times higher than in France and Finland. For industries, these costs are unsustainable. Energy-intensive sectors like metallurgy and chemicals are particularly hard hit, with companies relocating to countries with cheaper energy.

While big names like VW, BASF, and Mercedes-Benz dominate headlines, the real victims are small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that collapse under the weight of exorbitant energy costs. This industrial exodus threatens to hollow out Germany’s economy, once the powerhouse of Europe.

Germany’s green energy transition has backfired environmentally. The phase-out of nuclear power in 2011, driven by the Fukushima disaster, has forced the country to rely on coal and lignite to fill the energy gap. In 2024, Germany remained the second-largest emitter of CO2 per unit of energy produced in Europe, emitting ten times more than France.

This reliance on fossil fuels undermines the very purpose of renewable energy policies, turning Germany’s green dream into an environmental nightmare.

Germany’s energy crisis has far-reaching geopolitical implications. High electricity prices in Germany spill over into neighboring countries, making energy unaffordable and fostering resentment. In 2024, the household price of electricity in Germany was the highest in Europe, at €400/MWh, reaching peaks of €900/MWh. Discussions are now emerging about withdrawing from energy agreements, further destabilizing Europe’s energy landscape.

Germany’s energy missteps serve as a stark reminder of the need for balanced, pragmatic energy policies. The country’s overzealous pursuit of renewables, combined with the hasty abandonment of nuclear power, has created a perfect storm of economic decline, environmental degradation, and geopolitical tension. Germans must now cope with extreme energy prices and intermittent loss of power.

I've always been a sceptic on Global Warming, Climate Change, or whatever their latest term is.
But I gotta say, winters are noticeably milder here in SE Wisconsin than when i was a kid.
Granted, that's an insanely short period of time to base climatology on.

As far as nuclear, i sincerely feel minds will change on that.
Small Modular Reactors are the future.

From the AI Internet:

Small modular reactors (SMRs) are a class of nuclear fission reactors that are designed to be built in factories, shipped to sites, and used to power commercial operations. SMRs are smaller than traditional nuclear power plants, with a maximum output of 300 megawatt electric (MWe). They can be used for power generation, process heat, desalination, and other industrial applications. [1, 2, 3, 4]
Here are some advantages of SMRs: [2]
  • Size: SMRs are about 1/10 to 1/4 the size of a traditional nuclear power plant. [2]
  • Cost: SMRs require a reduced capital investment. [2]
  • Location: SMRs can be sited in locations that are not possible for larger nuclear plants. [2, 4]
  • Configurability: SMRs can be customized for a location based on generation needs and available infrastructure. [2]
  • Safety: SMRs feature advanced safety features. [2]
Some SMR designs include: [1]
  • Pressurized water reactor (PWR)
  • Generation IV
  • Thermal-neutron reactors
  • Fast-neutron reactors
  • Molten salt
  • Gas-cooled reactor models
The Department of Energy (DOE) is developing advanced SMRs as part of its goal to develop safe, clean, and affordable nuclear power options. [4]

Yeah the govt took climate change-which is a normal thing as climate always changes-and turned it into a disaster.

I find it funny that govts will say they are having trouble dealing with forest fires in Canada or the fires in LA. But somehow if you pay carbon tax they will stop climate change! LOL! Funniest thing I ever heard!

What just makes me laugh so hard is when people say that climate change has made the Yellowstone Supervolcano Hotspot hotter, and it's going to erupt any minute and kill us all.

I always say "Remember Folks. You heard it first from Charlie!" 🔥

Yeah funny we recently are breaking cold and snow records in the US and Can, and in most of Europe as well.
I thought the fear is that earths temp is raising by 1.5 degrees avg and eventually we all will die off of starvation and sunburn. Lol!
Despite them taking temps in the center of the heat sink-which is inner cities-they somehow don't talk about this winter weather??
When I was young, I remember it being in the 40's in the summer, and also -30 to -40 on the prairies in the winter.
It still is plus 40's in the summer, and it was -41 where our son lives the other day. Nothing is happening to be fearful about. Climate always changes. Its cyclical like everything else in nature.
Watching the WEF meeting, and they actually said net zero makes them money. So unbelievable that we even allow these people to speak on our behalf. These unelected morons trying to take all our money.
I also saw Gore recently saying by 2050 we are all in trouble. Ummm, didn't he say in the 90's that in 20 years Florida would be under water?! Then in a few years it will be 2070, then 2090, blah blah blah. Fear. Anyone with a set of encyclopedias or access to farmers almanac can see historical records. Temps go up, then go down, up and down, up and down...just part of earth cycles.
Toxins and pollution is one thing, but temps, co2, all controlled by earth and unaffected by all of us.

Put it this way, if co2 was so bad and we are all doomed, why do the elites by ocean front and not mountain homes? If flying and driving is so bad, why was there 79 private jets that flew into Switzerland for these WEF meetings. Same as for COP meetings. If it was so bad as they say, why are they allowed to all fly individually. Zoom or Skype meetings not ok for them? Huh...do as I say not as I do.

Watching WEF meetings and they are talking about climate change. Saying how bad it is for the US to pull out. Its so awful that the US with its 3.7-7.6 percent of worldwide emissions are pulling out. Of the 194 countries involved, China and India together account for more than 60 percent, have not made 1 single step in changing emissions. In fact it could be the opposite.
But they signed it and are in there. Haven't done anything, but they are there. Whew, thanks China and India, glad you signed it!
But the catastrophe is the US! Are these people for real? Can they be that stupid?

Last 2 Summers in Miami have been brutal . I can handle the heat and enjoy the yard however months of high 90s daily was absurd .

I went with Everglades cherry tomatoes as my bigger one's even watered daily were taking a beating .

The Washington Post

The Arctic ocean is warming up, icebergs are growing scarcer and in some places the seals are finding the water too hot, according to a report to the Commerce Department yesterday from Consulafft, at Bergen, Norway. Reports from fishermen, seal hunters and explorers all point to a radical change in climate conditions and hitherto unheard-of temperatures in the Arctic zone. Exploration expeditions report that scarcely any ice has been met as far north as 81 degrees 29 minutes. Soundings to a depth of 3,100 meters showed the gulf stream still very warm. Great masses of ice have been replaced by moraines of earth and stones, the report continued, while at many points well known glaciers have entirely disappeared.

Very few seals and no white fish are found in the eastern Arctic, while vast shoals of herring and smelts which have never before ventured so far north, are being encountered in the old seal fishing grounds. Within a few years it is predicted that due to the ice melt the sea will rise and make most coastal cities uninhabitable.

I apologize, I neglected to mention that this report was from November 2, 1922. As reported by the AP and published in The Washington Post - 103 years ago!

This article needs to be understood in context of when it was written, and the dramatic difference there is now with anthrogenic global warming.

The article you referenced, discussing Arctic warming and climate changes, is indeed genuine and was published by the Associated Press (AP) in November 1922. It was subsequently reprinted in several newspapers, including *The Washington Post* (on November 2, 1922) and *The New York Times*. The report cites observations from Norwegian Consul Louis Bernhard Pettersen (referred to as "Consulafft" in some versions, likely a typographical error) in Bergen, Norway, who relayed concerns from fishermen and explorers about rising Arctic temperatures, retreating glaciers, and shifts in marine life.

### Key Context:
1. **Historical Climate Variability**: The early 20th century saw a natural warming phase in the Arctic, known as the "Early 20th Century Warming" (ETCW). This period, distinct from today’s anthropogenic climate change, was driven by factors like ocean circulation shifts and reduced volcanic activity. The 1922 article reflects these observations but lacks the long-term data and scientific understanding of human-driven greenhouse gas effects we have today.

2. **Modern Misinterpretation**: This article is sometimes cited in climate debates to suggest that current warming is "natural." However, modern climate science emphasizes that the **rate and scale** of recent warming—driven by fossil fuel emissions—far exceed historical natural variability. The Arctic is now warming nearly four times faster than the global average, with ice loss and ecosystem disruptions more severe than in the 1920s.

3. **Accuracy of Claims**: While the 1922 report highlights real phenomena (e.g., Gulf Stream warmth, glacial retreat), its apocalyptic prediction about coastal cities becoming "uninhabitable within a few years" was hyperbolic and not borne out. Sea-level rise is a critical modern threat, but its progression is gradual, linked to centuries of ice melt—not short-term changes.

### Verification:
- The article is archived in *The Washington Post*’s historical database and has been fact-checked by outlets like [Snopes](https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/arctic-ocean-warming-1922/).
- Climate scientists acknowledge the ETCW but stress that it does not negate the overwhelming evidence for human-caused climate change today.

In summary, the article is authentic and fascinating as an early record of climate observations, but it should be interpreted with awareness of historical context and modern scientific understanding.

Leading The Revolution - Training Program
It's time for leaders to step up to climate chaos. Here's the training program to become one.

🧑‍🏫 Leading The Revolution - Training Program
A key question in the revolution is: who will do the work? Who will organize the work? Who will manage the organizers? And most importantly—how do we make decisions?

If we want a real revolution, we must build a network of leadership—not as an abstract ideal, but as a dynamic system of relationships, where power is shared and decisions are made with purpose. If power is too decentralized, strategy gets lost. If it’s too centralized, movements stall. To win, we need people power—and that means empowering many individuals within our movement.

I'll be 79 in a couple of months, which is right next door to 80, and frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn about no stinkin' global warming.

I'd explain why, but it will not change anyone's mind.

YMMV

Bla...Bla...Bla...! I don't buy any of it! It is normal for climates to change; doesn't mean it won't go back like it was... Shifts in weather are also normal if you look back over time...

Life goes on...and if we don't nuke ourselves into nothing...it will continue

I believe in climate change but think to late and sadly no going back because even if the USA and Europe go completely green which is impossible , Africa , most of Asia , Middle East , Latin America , Russia and anyone else I left out is not .

I do believe in regulations so we have clean water , best air possible but some of the less co2 A/C type regulations and few others I think a waste .
I find things like this insane as now less farmers and nothing changes as more meat imported from foreign countries --

''Denmark will tax livestock farmers for the greenhouse gases emitted by their cows, sheep and pigs from 2030, the first country to do so as it targets a major source of methane emissions, one of the most potent gases contributing to global warming.''

Unfortunately that is most likely what will happen .

Some IMO should not be changed because we will wind up drinking it and inhaling it --

  • Reconsideration of regulations on power plants (Clean Power Plan 2.0)
  • Reconsideration of regulations throttling the oil and gas industry (OOOO b/c)
  • Reconsideration of Mercury and Air Toxics Standards that improperly targeted coal-fired power plants (MATS)
  • Reconsideration of wastewater regulations for oil and gas development to help unleash American energy (Oil and Gas ELG)

The US has had pollution taxes, and there was/is that deal where companies are given a license to pollute a certain amount. If they don't use that whole amount, they can sell their pollution rights to another company. Congress loves to pass bills that have an appearance of doing something. The cow farts tax may not be that bad. The problem is that it doesn't help.

Some times they even give a positive sounding name to a positively dreadful law. The Forest Restoration Act (or something like that, of which there have been several) was pushed by industry to allow more logging.
Opinion: Congress’ Fix Our Forests Act will remove environmental checks that keep wildfires from spreading
