Can You Afford to Eat?

Well, I still work a full time job, so I can still get everything we need without worrying about being able to afford it.

I just spent 400+ dollars at BJ's Wholesale, but that was for long term shopping. Loaded the freezer with hamburger, pork roasts, sausage, a couple whole chickens, pot roasts, breakfast foods, etc. Also got laundry supplies, TP and paper towels, cleaning stuff and whatnot.

So, we're loaded for bear for the next six months or so.

There's still the weekly shopping, though. Bread, milk, fresh fruit & vegetables (which are pretty reasonable, actually).

Eggs, though...wow. Just paid 40 bucks for five dozen. But, that was better than almost $9 for one.

Definitely not cheaper by the dozen.

Sausage is DYI here. Paper goods and cleaning supplies are Amazon on auto delivery.
 

I watch for 2 for 1 to buy. I really like grapes but they have really risen high in price ($3.29 a pound). I just have to buy a small amount of grapes in a carton that are at least a reasonable price. Meat is really high here, too ($11.79 a pound) for a sirloin steak. Hamburger ($9.97 a pound). All groceries have increased in price. It is a shock to see when buying.

We do not eat big meals but I still have to watch what we do buy.

we don't need a Walmart we already have huge supermarkets.... in fact walmart bought one of our low grade budget supermarkets some years ago.. altho' they didn't change the name, but for some reason they couldn't make that supermarket any grubbier than it normally is... so they pulled out...:ROFLMAO:

I buy grapes every week, I pay a little more for them because I like the Cotton candy flavour.. so they're a little bit of a premium, .. at ÂŁ2.40 for 500g which is 1.1 pounds... at Tesco regular grapes are approx ÂŁ2.00 for 500g .... at Aldi , just ÂŁ1.40 per 500g

Minced ( ground ) beef in Tesco is ÂŁ5.98 per kilo.. which is 2.2 pounds

ÂŁ1 pound sterling = $1.29 US dollars

From what I understand there was a brutal cold / flu this year worse then other years ?

we get plenty American tourists in our regular supermarkets. We don't want some of them who use Walmart regularly at home feeling too comfortable .. and turning up in fancy dress... if you get my meaning..,:ROFLMAO:
 
Just as a matter of interest I just looked up how many Americans arre liviing in London alone... not anywhere else in the country.. and just in the one city we have 71,000 Americans here... and overall in the uk there are just over 200,000 Americans here on this small Island that we know of ... of 69 million people

My time here in the states is coming to an end as bored and 4 to 6 plumbing jobs a week does not offer me the excitement this 73 year old body craves .

You might see me in the UK doing this --

Grapes are often more reasonable at Walmart and Aldi.

You are wise to pay in full, it's the old adage that if you can't afford to, you have overspent. That's another reason why I pay cash. When the cash is all gone, the spending stops.
We have those loyalty cards too, the reason they are issued is so that whether you pay by cash or card, the retailer keeps a spending profile on you. Those profiles are bought and sold, whatever happened to privacy?
At the risk of sounding boring, I pay cash to avoid the monthly card bill and I pay cash to remain anonymous.

Like you I also prefer to pay upfront and when buy from Amazon buy an Amazon gift card which even for someone as internet limited as I am is user friendly .

I am sure that you are aware that hospitals have anti vomiting medication that will stop people from vomiting. There is also medication for stomach sickness like Zofran that hospitals use. In your case, if that had happened to me, I would have headed to the ER. When you become that ill, it’s best to go to the hospital and receive some IV fluids. A person can die from being dehydrated or if not that, organ damage or seizures are also a possibility.

I do give you praise for being 92. I seriously doubt if I will see that age. And BTW, you don’t look to be 92
