The world needs more love
I recently had two guests, a niece and her friend. Things were going well for the most part, although they kept putting in little digs on how males were accountable for everything that is wrong in the world. Two nights ago it came to a head when the friend started raging on America and capitalism. She's enjoying all the fruits of our great country, yet she feels socialism is the answer. Everyone should be equal, regardless if they attempt to pull their own weight or not. The government should pay for everything from healthcare, education, housing, and good paying jobs.

Now, I'm a live and let live kind of guy, but she had me blowing a gasket. She had no answers, only complaints. I truly fear for the state of what is to come with this mindset that seems to be growing.

I spoke with my son and he said misandrist is rampant and that he refuses to date anyone with this prejudice.
 

Sorry to hear that you had to deal with all that... I seem to see it a lot lately.

I've heard that schools in the US (elsewhere too, I'm sure) have been teaching a thing called Critical Race Theory since the early 2000's... you might want to read up on it...
 
I feel your pain. It is probably too late to expect such conditioning to be corrected in its current victims. We can only hope that mass media and the education industry get cleaned up so it isn't further perpetuated on younger people.

I've enraged the mob here before by saying it, but I think teachers should be subject to regular psychiatric reviews before children are ever placed into their care. Of course the problem may be having enough eligible teachers once that's done.

I partly agree with her. I don't think pure capitalism is the right answer either.

So I am in favour of a degree of socialism - universal health care and education, for example.
It isn't a false dichotomy of either extreme of capitalism or socialism - it is a matter of finding the right balance or position on the spectrum.

And yes she is 'enjoying the fruits of your great country' - that doesn't mean she can't express a view on what should be changed or what, in her opinion,would be changes for the better.
 
I think the world and its populations and successes and failures all come and go in waves - just decide which part of the wave you are on atm and ride it??

NB: authors note: I personally think we are heading for a bit of a downfall all around on this planet atm - there are wars and more wars and rumors of wars?? it just don't feel good anymore like when i road the trams of Liverpool for free??
 
we are now being offered services; mechanics ; communications at the speed of lightning ; some think they can handle it - seems ok at the beginning - like a roller coaster and then the dizzy spells start - spinning out of control and crashing down to reality -what came first the human brain or the pc?? and why?

It ain't easy but ....... If an adult steps on my foot and doesn't say "Sorry" I will calmly shame him/her publically. If a child steps on my foot ..... well ... never mind. My best advice in your circumstance is to laugh at her. Let her get angry instead. She obviously wants to feel like an adult so if you really think she needs to be punished just look at her with a smile and say, "Oh, you kids!" and then laugh. But she probably doesn't need to be punished. She'll punish herself in a few years when she grows up. But that's her problem.

harder to get on the ferries for free but I did ride them - gave one a sense of going abroad - you became an international traveler - set you up for life!!

Bunch of old tired farts answered this thread. I pity you for getting so old you can't remember your youth and ideas and ideals you were exposed to. We grew up in an intellectually exciting times, the sixties. Don't you people remember your own youth? Complaining about youth is a very negative,envious thing to involve yourself in.

Your son is wise to avoid females with this misandrist view of US male population. These females are looking for someone to take care of them. When they realize that the US is not a full blow socialist nation, and the government won't take care of them from cradle to grave, they will look for a man to do it, that is the heterosexual females. These females who are man-hating feminist/socialist are misguided, hypocritical and emotionally draining/drama queens to say the least.

I do not know who you are referring to as "we" and what "intellectually exciting times the 60s" were. Apparently you are part of the bunch of old tired farts here.

Complaining about a what sounds to be guest of a guest with no social graces or manners has nothing to do with comp!aiming about youth.
