A Car Chased/ Cut Me Off

I couldn't sleep last night so I went out for a coffee at my all-night Tim Horton's Drive -Thru. It was around 4:30 in the morning.

On my way home, a car about 100 yards behind me sped up super fast and pulled up adjacent to my car...just inches away...leaning into my lane on the right side of the road. Then the tinted car sped up again, cut me off and suddenly slammed on the brakes right in front of me. The car made me slow down to a crawl behind it...then it sped up again and turned right down a side street.

My worst fears tells me this was a gang dare or some kind of initiation. I felt I was lucky to not be the victim of a random drive-by shooting. Fortunately, there was another car about 50 yards up to my left that would have been a witness in case anything bad happened...which is why I think the car eventually left me alone.

I suppose I should have called the Police. I might still report this car later today although I didn't get a plate number. It was a harrowing experience for sure, and I don't rattle very easily.

  • The Setup:
The scam typically involves three vehicles:
    • The "Swoop" Car: Driven by a criminal, this vehicle intentionally cuts in front of the "squat" car.
    • The "Squat" Car: Also driven by a criminal, this vehicle brakes suddenly after being cut off by the swoop car.
    • The Victim's Car: The innocent driver who rear-ends the squat car because they cannot react in time.

Because it was only 1 car, it could have been what’s called ā€œbaiting.ā€ The idea is to enrage the driver going about his own business to the point where he becomes enraged and begins to act impulsively by trying to get back at the driver until someone’s car gets hit, one of the driver’s are injured or they both pullover and get out of their vehicles.

Once the driver of the car that started the harassment has the other car pull over and they both get out of their vehicles, the driver that started the harassing may have a weapon and rob the baited vehicle’s driver or do bodily damage. It doesn’t happen very offer, but it does happen.

And what would you have told the police? That someone passed you too fast per your perception and then slowed down?

Narcissists are naturally contrarian, so when arguments occur, they instinctively become competitive. They must win. Dr. Les Carter explains how, in their quest for control, they use tried and true tactics that will potentially bring out the worst in you

These days it's a good idea not to be out and about late at night or the middle of the night. I'm glad nothing worse happened. I don't know what good it would do to report the incident without a license plate though, especially since you didn't report it immediately. Be careful Beezer!

Yes, but if the same thing happened again --same place, same time, same vehicle description -- maybe the police or neighborhood watch would know to keep watch or drive by frequently, maybe stop this character.

I think it should be reported.
