I never watch any of the so-called awards shows. I liked who I liked. Didn't need some durn fool telling me what song or singer was the best!I never watched the Grammy's because I never agreed with the results. I saw on the internet that Lyin' Eyes was nominated so I got curious who won.
All the songs nominated at the 1976 Grammys were released the year before in 1975. That's how award shows work. They look at the previous year because the current year isn't finished at the time.I thought Mandy was earlier than '76. I knew they were around the mid '70's, but couldn't say with any specificity. I'd go with Janis Ian. The rest was just stuff on the radio.
Thanks. No idea, never watched any of them. I just remember having a conversation about Barry Manilow writing ad jingles. I know who was there and where we were and it wasn't as late as 1976.All the songs nominated at the 1976 Grammys were released the year before in 1975. That's how award shows work. I never could relate to the lyrics. I never saw myself as a Rhinestone Cowboy. That was Glen's journey.I didn't vote for Rhinestone Cowboy, but when I went to YouTube to watch each of the songs, it was the only one I had fun singing along to.
I liked Barry Manilow songs, They were catchy, started out slowly and grew to a grand crescendo. Then faded off in self important glory.Thanks. No idea, never watched any of them. Me too !Oh, darn. I thought we were voting on who WE wanted to win!![]()
IMHO it was worthy of winning. A haunting performance of a deeply insightful look at teenage angst.Lyin' Eyes was my choice, but 'At Seventeen' was very close.
Janis Ian did get a Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance that year.
I became a fan from the first time I heard "Society's Child."Itās āAt Seventeenā for me. Love it.Still listen to it.
Here is Janice Ian today.
Someone above noted that Janis Ian did get a Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance that year. So she was worthy of and got an award for her excellent original song.IMHO it was worthy of winning. A haunting performance of a deeply insightful look at teenage angst.
"At Seventeen" was released on Ian's "Between the Lines" album, which is among my favorite (non-greatest hits) albums. Jackson Browne's "Lives in the Balance" is right up there, too.Someone above noted that Janis Ian did get a Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance that year.
