I thought Mandy was earlier than '76. I knew they were around the mid '70's, but couldn't say with any specificity. I'd go with Janis Ian. The rest was just stuff on the radio.

All the songs nominated at the 1976 Grammys were released the year before in 1975. That's how award shows work. They look at the previous year because the current year isn't finished at the time.

Thanks. No idea, never watched any of them. I just remember having a conversation about Barry Manilow writing ad jingles. I know who was there and where we were and it wasn't as late as 1976.

I liked Barry Manilow songs, They were catchy, started out slowly and grew to a grand crescendo. Then faded off in self important glory.

Look here. You should look it up once you voted...

...I knew it......!!...

Someone above noted that Janis Ian did get a Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance that year. So she was worthy of and got an award for her excellent original song.
"At Seventeen" was released on Ian's "Between the Lines" album, which is among my favorite (non-greatest hits) albums. Jackson Browne's "Lives in the Balance" is right up there, too.
