OK, today I started Win 10 at 11:45 am and it finished all the routing turn offs and turn on at about 2:45. So just about 3 hours for the entire routine. I have had time to try it out and it seems OK for me. Some artwork changed, but they did manage to keep my opening page and apparently my files and such. I just have not had a lot of time to actually use it yet. But I feel good about if for now. I will find out more as time goes by. At least now I don't have too worry about missing the FREE upgrade cut off next spring or summer. And I expect to get the daily updates they have been doing for some years now.

They do have a couple of confusing screens but as I figured them out they are pretty good helpers. I will know a lot more after a couple weeks of poking about and learning new ways.

Thanks for the update Bob, glad it is going good for you;) If I remember right, you are coming from win8/8.1??

Not at all, I should have mentioned that so all would know that I was still on Win 7 and had never even tried Win 8.

Win 10 did install and it works. I think. Time will tell if I like it or not. Still not planning on using any MS stuff as long as my personal choices do work.

I am thinking of going back into Linux on a different laptop. Just not sure which version of Linux I wish to try. The version many of us liked and stayed with got entangled with MS and now they no longer exist. It was called Xandros. I believe it goes back to the Word Perfect Corporation, spun off when WP split up, then re emerged as Xandros. Lasted for about 5 years and once again shut down.

For now I will need to try to learn all I can about this new MS operating system to make it work for me and my products.

Hi Bob,

Is Linux another type of operating system? I don't know anything about it, other then the name I've heard many times. I'd love to know more about it;) denise

Yes, it is an operating system. And it comes in many forms. Search for "Linux operating systems" and see what all comes up. One reason I keep with MS is there are a coupld of operations, like my bank accounting 'Quicken' that only runs on MS.

When you search for Linux you will see several and they come in several states of packaging and costs from nothing to a reasonable price you will have to accept. Xandros was free but for me I paid a fee and got the improved and well maintained version. I have not been with any Linux product since MS somehow ended up with Xandros being closed. So I too will have to look into what is available and their stability.

OK, so far the Win 10 seems to be solid and doing what it is supposed to do. Unfortunately doing what it is supposed to do is not exactly what I wish it could do. My mind is still stuck into the way I always wanted my PC to operate. I don't care for all this gimmick stuff and cute little boxes. I just like to have the file structure show to me so I can pick what I want to work on or do, and get it going. Just not so simple on my PC. Once I get to know this product I hope to be able to move things around and get it to be the way I want things. Sure glad it seems to be real solid and not causing lots of mysteries for me. I did find how to shut down the finger pad so the screen would stop jittering and jumping around. I find that for me my hands will touch the finger pad and things go crazy. So I just turn off the pad and use my mouse to get around.

Oh metoo Bob, had the touch-pad;) I love my mouse, LOL!

I bet you are having fun exploring 10 though:) I love learning new things, but yes, those tiles/cute, little boxes are useless if you ask me;) So many bells and whistles are not really what we need but they are always thrown in there. You'll get it weeded out;) ttys, denise
