Who is the most overpaid worker?

Which professions have the most overpaid personnel?

Besides, of course, celebrities and most prof athletes?

(If you refer to a nation besides U.S., please mention it.)

I say, psychotherapists, presidents of large non-profits, professional movie reviewers,
high end chefs, university sports coaches and even some teachers in affluent areas
(they work only part of the year.)

These are all generalizations. Many exceptions exist.
 

I'm going to say the UAW,2 years ago I find out that the installer of just the Ford windshield, which a machine puts in place, was paid $27/hr. I would not be surprise if they are making $30/hr. today PLUS benefits.
 
Pastors, especially in the large "mega-churches"
U.S. Congressmen
U.S. Farmers (they receive millions in subsidies for NOT growing crops)
University professors (most have never held a job in the 'real world' and only teach a few hours/week)
Public school administrators
Collegiate athletic department employees
 
After OSU Buckeyes won national championship, coach Urban Meyer got a raise from $4.9M to $5.8M a year and a 6 yr contract averaging $6.5M a yr. Meyer is now the second highest paid college football coach. (Nick Saban, University of Alabama is first @ $6.9M.)
 
I have to go with the preachers in some of these big churches. Our head honcho (who died in 1986 I think it was) was making $200,000 a year PLUS free everything you could think of including a personal jet to travel around the world in (to spread the word of God, don't you know), mansions for him and various family members (some not even in the church) on Pasadena's former "Millionaires Row", SOLID GOLD goblets (my x-son-in-law and other young people dined with him and got to either drink from these or at lest look at them) which his much younger wife got in the divorce settlement. Well, I could go on and on, no one made me be the fool to stick with that church for 35 years!

 
why is it on here every thread has to stoop to tearing down church's? also if 27 dollars is to much to pay someone which is just over 50 grand a year what did all you professional people make? most ever thing you read says 40,000 is the living wage area which is 20 bucks an hour. as a union carpenter we didn't make 27 an hour am I jealous not at all good for them. now does a ceo need to make 400 times as much as their workers, I think not, but that is the free market. don't like what you make move one, make more, work two jobs ...I did for 25 years plus, but stop crying about what the other guy has and you don't.

Trust me, nurses are grossly underpaid. Docs once were among the high earners ... no more since most are affiliated with group practices these days. Even famous neurosurgeons don't crack the "big-time".

And Grumpy Old Man ... no family farmer is getting wealthy. Most are just trying to keep the farms that've been in their families for generations. The ones making a "killing" are the agribusiness people ... their CEOs and upper echelon ... plus agribusinesses and Monsanto are in cahoots and individual farmers cannot even keep seed from this year's harvest to use to plant next year's crop.

I worked for docs. My family hung on to the family farm in North Dakota until it was only one son who is trying to stick it out.
 
Regarding plummers- If a person has the training, the experience and the equipment, they-too can do what plummers do. Same for other skilled trades, but it seems that since their work is viewed as "menial" that they are expected to work for slave wages.

Nurses are also underpaid, especially given the amount of training they have done, and continue to do throughout their career.
 
Regarding psychotherapists. We do not earn huge sums of money here in Canada, I doubt it is much different in many other countries. Private practice pays better than a group setting, but comfortable is all one can expect financially. Many of us don't achieve that, due to accepting a large number of cases pro bono. Also, the stress is very high in this line of work, most burn out over time. If it is not your vocation, there are far easier ways to make a good living.

Ronaldj, I don't feel I am stooping to tearing down churches, if I offended you and your religious beliefs I apoligize. I raised 4 children on used cloths and used bikes etc (and my husband made a good living) so we could foolishly pay THREE (3) tithes on our gross (pretax) income to a church, that later came out (after the head guy died in the mid 80s) and said it was a CULT. That was an announcement made by, what was called The Pastor General of The Church, the new guy appointed by the dead guy before he passed on, to take over. People stayed in the church because they were taught if we left, our children would have to go through the great tribulation (talked about in Rev.) among other things. We were not allowed to talk or read anything that talked about our church that did not come from headquarters. I have since read up on brain washing and we were brain washed. My husband and I were both teenagers when we got caught up in this church. It now goes under a new name and there are still people in it, who have been in since the 50s. The question here was regarding people who are over paid and I gave my honest answer and I stand by it.
 
Pay is relative in many areas. Yes some are cheated and purposely underpaid but if the market merits or limits pay who is to say what the pay should be.
 
When I had my eye laser treatment earlier this year to cost Medicare $350 ,my out of pocket was $400 I would not have spent any longer than 10 Minuites with the specialist including having the laser treatment ..however it's worth every cent to have nice clear eyesight
