Telephone scammers

I think the next time one of those scammers calls me "claiming" to be the IRS and they are going to arrest me, I am going to pick up and say, "That's what you said last month! When are you going to arrest me?" Then, I will block another number so they will have to call from a new one the next time!!! As you can see, I am tired of this!!!

We have similar calls in Australia the last one I received was really agressive ,Our calls are useally related to computer however the last couple were saying they were going to disconnect my internet for three months ..I said go ahead ...it's almost run out of money and I intend to update he hung up on me how rude :laugh: To date I've not had any further calls

I never get those calls because I don't answer calls from "unknown", "private caller" or numbers that I don't recognize. Further, my voice mail box has not been set up so they can't leave a message. No solution needed because there isn't a problem:)

Same here. I never pick up unless someone starts to leave a message, which the scammers won't do most of the time. I've gotten the "IRS" calls, the "Windows" calls, and a bevy of calls from "Solar Energy" providers. Every time I get a number that I don't recognize, it gets blocked. My phone rings once, then says "call blocked". ;)

I don't answer those either but this one leaves a message every time they call. Each time they call, I block them by area code but then they turn around and call again from a different area code and it goes on and on and on. You could think the dummies would get the message that I'm not going to answer regardless of what number they call from but no, they just keep being a "pain in the _ _ _" and keep calling from another number with a different area code each time.

I have one calling me now and I don't know who they are yet. I have the option to block them and I have to go to an internet site to learn how to do that. I probably will.

Usually, they don't leave a message, and I never pick up if I don't recognize the caller. But they are a pain in the butt anyway. It is intrusive and very annoying to have your phone ring all the time, whether or not you choose to pick it up. I am sure they are disturbing many people trying to sleep, for instance. And many people who are elderly or ill do sleep during the day. They are probably interrupting babies' naps, also, and interrupting meals, and God knows what else! :p

We are paying our phone bills in order to have the convenience of a phone for our own use, not to have it used as an instrument of torture. I wish the FCC or somebody could make telemarketing illegal. They would be hailed as heroes!

We only have a fairly small screen showing the number calling , and really need glasses on to read it ....we are due to replace the home phone so I'll look for a larger screen when I get around to replacing them (2) they are 10 years old so a little outdated..

I'm with Sunny on this one. There is something puzzling going on here and it can probably be explained by big business preferences. They almost always run things. The question is *what* big business?

Usually annoyances like this where *everyone* complains get solved, but this is getting worse. I suspect the phone companies would secretly prefer everyone ditch their landlines. Think of all the extra maintenance involved which requires humans to fix. Otherwise I think they'd figure out how to solve this problem. I can't believe it is not solvable.

I'm about to cancel my landline after all these years. But I just hate talking to someone for a lengthy conversation, like relatives, on a cell phone.

I heard a particularly evil one.. My bosses father, who is in his 80's received a call from a man claiming to have his granddaughter and that if he didn't give him $5000 he would kill her. IMAGINE THAT!!!? Well fortunately he had the presence of mind to immediately call the police.. and then to call and check if his granddaughter was missing..... and she wasn't. How horrible..

They are stooping pretty low when they go that far! Apparently they will do anything for money! I'm glad he knew to call the police AND check on his granddaughter plus didn't give them any info!

Land Lines are Disappearing Fast

I may be deaf, but I heard THAT loud and clear! Holding the cell up to my ear taxes my arthritis and carpal tunnel, can't hold the damned thing against my shoulder at all, like the trusty old desk set receiver! Plus, I can HEAR it ring!

Unpublished numbers help with the random calls. Costs YOU extra to thwart the intrusive! Society has spiraled since I was young, but not sure which direction!
