Tiger or Bear?

If you had to be a tiger or a bear which would you choose and why? Note: this is about animals, not sports teams. :eek:nthego:

Much as I love felines, I'd choose to be a bear.

There is still enough wilderness in the US, Canada, Europe and Asia to profide suitable habitat for bears. Tigers are already an endangered species due to shrinking natural habitat.

Bears are more adaptable than tigers. They'll forage anything anywhere because they're omnivores. They'll knock over garbage cans in suburbia and feast away. They make the most of national parks, (Yogi wasn't kidding), and even take a dip in local swimming pools when they find one. Bears can escape hunters by climbing trees, and best of all they hibernate several months a year, and I just love to sleep. :sentimental:

So for those reasons, I'd be a bear. What about you???

I too was definitely choosing Bear, mostly because I live right close to the Rocky Mountains and bears are still roam about the wilds here... oh and sometimes in our city ;)

I immediately thought tiger, Chic. But after your reasons stated, I have to agree I would be a bear too. Many bears can fill up with wild berries in season, in places like Canada and Alaska. Much nicer thought than having to find food as a tiger. I've seen some black and grizzly bears in the wild, and they are powerful and beautiful animals.

Holly, those pandas are soo cute! :D

A bear, I could roam around in these mts I live in. :) My grandson sometimes (And he'd spend the night ALONE up there on that old apple farm in the mts when his mom was in the city overnight.) would have to take a rifle and fire it into the ground by his front door to get the bears to stay away from their cabin and go back into the orchard. I wouldn't want to be a bear or a tiger if I were in captivity, I'd rather be dead.

Tiger - no question.

A tiger has a certain royalty, a certain panache that bears can only dream of having.

With bears I'm reminded of the Disney animatronic ones - big, bumbling and falling on the stupid end of the spectrum. Tigers are lithe, fast and can take you down a lot faster than a bear, who spends an inordinate amount of time mauling you first - very inefficient.

Tigers look like Olympic champions; bears, like a chubby Little League left-fielder.

I agree, definitely a tiger. I also remember the Deliverance style bears in the country bear jamboree <<<shudder>>>
I was a cat person my whole life...until I met a certain two dumb pups. Cats especially the big cats are regal and the perfect predator. One bit to the neck and you have dinner. Bears, dogs for that matter are so messy about it. Even if the prey is still alive and screaming NOMNOMNOM. I feel cats are much more dignified.

Oh. Bear. Definitely. Tiger's way too much work. Bears get a lot more sleep. Besides, I like fish.
Tigers go hungry a lot. What does panache get me? Tigers also eat people. Wait! Maybe that's a good thing.

I've always liked this one. I don't know the author:

Gonna be a bear

In this life, I'm a woman. In my next life, I'd Like to come back as a bear.

When you're a bear, you get to hibernate. You do nothing but sleep for six months. I could deal with that.

Before you hibernate, you're suppose to eat yourself stupid. I could deal with that too.

When you're a girl bear, you birth your children (who are the size of walnuts) while you're sleeping and wake up to partially grown, cute, cuddly cubs. I could definitely deal with that.

If you're a mama bear, everyone knows you mean business. You swat away anyone who bothers your cubs. If your cubs get out of line, you swat them too. I could deal with that.

If you're a bear, your mate EXPECTS you to wake up growling. He EXPECTS that you will have hairy legs and excess body fat.

YUP, GONNA BE A BEAR

"Deliverance" bears ... great Buddha, now I'm going to have nightmares tonight!

A big ugly bear chasing me through the woods bellowing "You look like a big fat ol' sow, boy!" :cower:

Lucky you fishful. I live in the Northeast and though we have lots of bears, I've never seen one in the wild ( or in suburbia ). This is a good thing, I suppose because, it means the bears are doing fine in the wilderness, can avoid humans, find lots to eat and raise their young successfully. That's what it's all about.:love_heart:

Amen, Linda. I wouldn't even want to see a bear or tiger in captivity or any large predator. It would be heartbreaking.
That must've been scary for your grandson, but I'll bet he didn't mind it at all.

Granted Phil, tigers in the wild are gorgeous, but in a tiny cage that majesty becomes pitiable. I saw tigers in a zoo when I was a tiny kid and never forgot the experience. Excellent predators though they are, their habbitat is shrinking faster than the bears'. Ursa (bears) will still be in the wild when all tigers are reduced to living in a wildlife preservation refuge. It's a shame, but I fear it will become a fact.

In terms of survival bears have a better chance in the wild than do tigers, so that's why I'd choose to be a bear instead of a gorgeous, colorful, lithe tiger.

Oh, I agree - the numbers are not in the tiger's favor.

But then, I've been a Mets fan since the beginning. ;)

When I was a kid my brother would take me to NYC's Central Park Zoo. It isn't a very large zoo; at least, it wasn't at the time. I remember always wanting to see the tigers, but what I would see would be these poor, pitiful cats in a too-small iron cage with a filthy concrete floor. If they had the energy (which few had) they would be pacing back and forth in their 12'x12' enclosure. Their eyes were blank, with that defeated look.

So, like you, I'll never forget that.

Later I went to the Bronx Zoo, a much bigger, better-run zoo, and enjoyed seeing that their tigers had a nice, big grassy yard to play in as well as their own pool.

The bears, on the other hand, would just be sitting on their butts chewing on a stick. :playful:

If I had to make a choice, I'd rather be a majestic yet endangered species than a lumpy but safe one. ;)

I'd be a big black dog, if I could belong to me! My dogs have it made.

Oye! Butterfly. You are off topic there!
The thread is about Tigers and Bears.
NOT Dogs!:playful::playful::playful:

But ME, definitely a BEAR, because I like to give plenty of Hugs, and I like to be Hugged back.

So you can call me Huggy Bear if you like.

And may I say to you all...

Now then. Where is that ruddy Cat? ! :playful:

No Chic, he doesn't mind at all. I'd be terrified to spend the night alone in a deserted cabin on top of a mountain. They've also found rattle snakes in the house a time or two. I was afraid he'd become a hermit up there but thank God, he's off in the bay area going to college and talking about joining the air force.
