How is your day Today? Chat about your plans and achievements 2025....

Hello all, I see some of you are discussing cars and maybe purchasing a new one. Our care is 10 years old but is in good shape and only needs servicing with oil changes and other routine care. However, I worry about it getting older with costly repairs but a new car is so expensive and not sure a used car would be better than ours.

I am getting so driving is scary with so many bad drivers on the roads but where I live there are no busses. Anyway, it is interesting reading the posts about the cars.

I hope all of you are staying well and those who are having problems with health get the help they need.

Have a great day to everyone.:)

Morning folks !! Been awake since 4am, up since 530am....
So kinda taking it slow on things, got last load of laundry in now, fed the critters, (birds) fed me, been looking at those
lift you up chairs, recliners, dunno if I want to spend that
much money, but could be i should,.....we will see...my minds
working overtime today, about you know whatever LOL@@@;)

There is some talk about cars and repairs. My family has had a bunch of cars, and yes, we did need some repair work done. But in general, we have been pretty lucky.

In front right is my wife's 2010 Honda Fit with 137K miles. Besides normal maintenance work which I did, the only repair was replacing the rear shocks. For retirement from work, I just bought her a new Toyota RAV4 Hybrid SUV. My older daughter will drive the old Fit when she comes home next month after living for 13 years in China. If something goes wrong with the Fit, then she still has her smaller 2008 Toyota Yaris with 77K miles and no repairs.

In retirement, I have been driving a 2012 Toyota Corolla with over 50K miles and no repairs so far. I'll keep it for another 10 years. Supposedly, California has 70K drivers age 100 and over, out of a general population of almost 40M. So, I won't be afraid of driving in old age. I also have still my 1986 Ford F-150 pickup in good condition, while I just gave my 1992 Ford Ranger pickup to my son-in-law to sell it.

This morning I got up around 6 AM and took the pups out for doing their business. Sunrise had been at 5:41 AM but June Gloom (ocean fog) keeps it cool and relatively dark; in the afternoon the temperature will be in the mid-nineties. I had all windows open during the night to cool down the house. So this morning, 59F degrees outside and 67F inside the house. With some luck, the air-condition may not kick on at all today (I set it at 78 degrees.)

@hawkdon My unsolicited advice: Buy. The. Chair. If you can't spend your money on yourself for something that will make your life easier, then what can you spend it on? Besides making it easier for you to get out of it, it will help with your breathing. Having a night when breathing is tough? Sleep in the recliner.

@ggranny thanks, I am leaning towards puchase...wondering
if I will go cheapest, or get one with massage, heat, therapy..
that would suit me fine....actually the electric is my biggest
block, due to age of the house, I have very few outlets...but
will see how it goes....

I'm having a great day, thanks for asking. After having one day of partial sun the rains and cool temps came again. I'm beginning to feel more comfortable with this kind of weather now and I sleep much more, but I'm sleeping so deeply that it's win/win as long as I can keep up. :ROFLMAO:

Have you looked at Leasing and 19,000 miles a year. With Electrics EV's coming it might be a good move, especially if you routinely run 30-40 miles on outings. The 19,000 could give you a good cushion? Many Leasers Park the cars a lot with just 12,000.

Well the sun came out in the afternoon and it was quite warm especially in the car. I don't have working AC in my car, I've had it re-gassed twice and it's still never worked...

I went to the bank which closes tomorrow.. it's in the next town.. and the nearest one to me because all but one of our banks have closed in our local market town, once we had 12.. now we have 1 left... but it's not who I bank with...

Anyway the attitude of the staff today in my Bank in the next town, made it clear they didn't care about being polite or helpful to the customer...any more

I asked to withdraw a certain amount.. which was more than the alloted amount permitted from the ATM... so I had to go into the branch. She asked me for ID.. the ID I had she dismissed.. so she asked me some questions.. exactly how much did I spend in the supermarket a week ago... / I didn't have a clue so I said so... she pulled a face... ,

I told her however, how much had been deposited in that account in recent weeks.... nope she wanted her questions answered, so she then asked me exactly to whom I have Direct debits and standing orders going out to.... I told her a couple that I could remember..( after all this is not my only account I have other accounts with other banks ) she got really stroppy because I couldn't remember more than 2...

In the end I told her either she gives me my money or I'll cancel my account completely right there and then... and so she did with a bad grace.. Jeeez!

Anyway after that I took myself off to a long overdue visit to Costco..which was incredibly empty, soo that was easy....

ETA..that was the other question she asked in the bank.... how long have you had this account?.. I said ''well over 20 years ''..... she said..''how much over 20 years ''.... I said I have no idea, 30 years might be .....40 years ...FGS... nope apparently that wasn;t good enough...

which reminds me , I must look at my account and see just exactly how long I have been with them..

Turns out I've been banking with them for 39 years..... !! so annoying to be spoken to like that...I've never been overdrawn ever... never owed them anything.. always been in credit...

I'm really fired up about the way she spoke to me...tbh

Oh and when I came out of the bank...just to make things all the more fun... a 40 foot truck was unloading to a Pound shop, and had parked right alongside my car.. so it was impossible for me to get in the drivers seat...

he shouldn't have been there this is parking on the street for cars only.. not a delivery area.. and I had to wait 15 minutes for him to unload, and move the truck , which took me over the alotted 30 minute street parking time..

yes it's infuriating isn't it Hawkie..?..I understand they have to have proof of identity...... but good grief... there's a way of asking.. and a way not to ask...

I remember my daughters' partner. he'd banked with this same bank for many years.. and he had his mortgage with them, had never owed them anything other than the mortgage payments which were up to date ..just the opposite, and he asked them for a loan of quite a relatively small amount.. and they turned him down flat.... ..he was so enraged he transferred all his accounts to another bank...

I'd have done the same.

About 25 years ago when I was closer to 50 than 45, I was depositing a check of a few hundred dollars at my bank's local branch. No cash back, just a deposit. At that time, I probably went to that branch four times a month, depositing similar checks drawn from the same account.

A teller I didn't recognize who looked to be in her early 20s, asked me for ID. I said, "For a deposit? Since when does this bank require ID to make a deposit?" but showed her my license. Then she asked for a second ID. I said, "Seriously????" but fished it out. After she wrote all of this down and processed the deposit, she had the gall to say, "Thank you, Star" - using my first name.

I was so irritated that I said to her, "You ask me for two IDs then have the nerve to call me by my first name? Please don't do that - we're not friends."

My daughter was with me. She was about 15 years old and stunned at my abruptness because I'm known to be almost overly polite to clerks, waitstaff, etc. I told DD that this young woman ticked me off and needed to learn her place.

I told DD, twenty-somethings have no cause to use first names of strangers double their age, a simple, "Thank you" or "Thank you, Ma'am" or even "Thank you, Ms. Song" would have sufficed, especially after she put me through the wringer over a simple deposit.

If you do, look into a lift chair with battery backup. I didn't get that feature on mine and one time the power went out when I was snoozing fully reclined. I had to struggle to clamber out of my chair in monkey fashion in the dark.

I wanted to get my shopping done early. Arrived at the thrift store at 8:55. There was a small gathering. 😳 One lady was relaying a story of having her appendix out yesterday. 😲There’s nothing I need that badly.

It seems like the majority of folks were resellers. They headed to specific areas and were filling up their carts quickly. I guess if they have it in the cart, they can re-evaluate it before paying. They seemed to know what they were doing.

Just some pictures.

Left: My wife prepares for me delicious and super healthy salads. I especially like munching on raw peppers. Have you ever tried Jalapeno peppers? (https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/jalapeno-health-benefits) They cause you to jump up to the ceiling and to drink a gallon of water.
Right: Usually I am eating for breakfast oats with nutritious cocoa and fiber, with a teen spoon of sugar, microwaved 1 1/2 minutes, and some fruits.

My new $160, 40" smart Vizio TV also gives me free access to YouTube with thousands of videos. My favorite ones are those dealing
with history that refresh my memory and fill in more details; and those with pets, especially with toddlers and their dog playmates.
Although most are "for pay," sling, tubi, and "watch free+" are also free.

Isn't dairy better than water after hot peppers? Try milk or cheese.

I am appalled at some of the stories about bank tellers. Note my response!
If I were treated that way at any branch of my bank, I would insist on speaking to the Manager .. and, I would threaten to withdraw my money, close my account, and do business with a different bank.
