Toilet Paper Roll Debate

Ah, the age-old toilet paper debate: should the roll hang over or under? While it may seem trivial to some, many people passionately defend their preference as if the very essence of bathroom origins depended on it. After all, there’s a proper toilet paper orientation, right?

Question: Under or Over and why?

Over: It is easier to roll the paper out as fast or as slowly as you'd like, and it's easy to control the amount of paper you need. It's easier to see when you first want the paper. It's more convenient to grab. And after you've taken a sufficient amount of paper, having it come out from on top means it's harder for the toilet paper to hang too low and touch the floor.

My upstairs bathroom doesn't have a convenient place for a hanger, so for the last 15 years a roll sits on top the toilet tank. Sometimes on top the nearby sink cabinet. It seems normal to me now, and I don't have to deal with hanging it the right way.

When we had our cat, we kept her upstairs. She really enjoyed spinning the paper rolls, so the one upstairs was under, but from time to time, she would manage to sneak downstairs and the first thing she did was to go into the bathroom because the door was always left cracked open and spin the roll. Now that she is gone, all the rolls are under.

A lot of people in my area have 4 bathrooms. It’s just the way new homes are being built, but we did help design this one we are living in now.

You can stop the rolling off by squashing the roll when you put on a new roll. The inner cylinder will then be oval instead of being round. It cannot then roll over by itself. It defeats the cat too.
that's true... I have no cats, but I always squeeze the roll so it doesn't roll off half way through...

Over for me.. .... under aside from anything else is really unhygenic because you end up touching the wall with your unwashed hands

Also if there's anything nasty on the wall it could get onto the toilet paper and spread stuff to your bum. At the hospital where I clean I have seen some things on the wall one wouldn't want on their toilet paper. LOL

The "Over or Under" toilet paper debate, about whether the toilet paper roll should hang with the end pointing forward or backward, is a long-standing and surprisingly passionate discussion. While both positions have their supporters, the general consensus, and even the inventor's intention, leans towards "Over"

And most importantly, it's easier to read the crap jokes in the "Over" position.

I prefer Over, not sure why, probably just used to it being that way.

My wife, however, seems to think that once it gets down to about 1/4 inch, it's time to open a new roll and leave it on the bathroom sink.

Sometimes I do that, but I balance the almost-out roll on top of the new roll.
