A Saudi Arabian diplomat is probably going to claim diplomatic immunity to get out of rape charges from staff at their compound. Again?

Apparently there have been similar accusations against the Saudi's in London and Washington.

It's not unusual.All diplomats have such immunity.

There are one or two US vets who dare not come back to the UK because they were shipped out of the UK before charges could be brought

The question isn't use of diplomatic immunity but with Saudi Arabia and the use of repeat offenders and/or ignoring the same criminal problems/issues that keep on popping up while on diplomatic missions.

A few public expulsions and banishments from these countries would change the Saudi's tune.

It's sad what goes on some of these countries. And it enables pos like this.

But I find hard to believe that a country as rich as Saudi Arabia doesn't deploy more cultured diplomats and staff. I'm sure many of these "employees" not only understand English but Western culture and law along with being sent to US schools. Since these problems go back years and in different countries this is a Saudi problem but with their culture this is probably as good as it will get.
 
Why the surprise? In supposedly enlightened countries such as yours and mine, the sexual assault stats are horrid, the conviction rate appalling. Any woman with half a brain recognizes that if she wishes to press charges with any realistic chance of a conviction, she best be very battered. Saudi culture considers women to be second class citizens at best, brood mares and punching bags at worst. They speak of gently beating one's wife as a form of correction. Eek. Of course their attitudes are antideluvian. Sadly, ours are not much better. Our "cultured, educated" men abuse women, why wouldn't theirs? Perhaps our
diplomats know better, but who really knows? The power of the coverup is ongoing.
 
The pos Saudi prince in the recent LA compound case now may have raped up to five women in Los Angeles alone.

The prosecutors, witnesses or victims will either get paid off or a talking to by the state department. Or they simply put a gag order on court proceedings then have the judge seal the court records so this pos can get his own 9-11 style 28 page redaction.

Pending on information this particular case might be deserving of it's own thread.

Along with physical evidence proof of intent and proof of "no" is what many prosecutors look for besides a slam dunk case for their resume and spare time ie bar by happy hour. In this day in age in America in California of all places one would assume an educated "prince" should know better. But now were back to that culture thing which quite frankly has no place for assimilation in the US. Their "culture" should be considered incompatible with the west or US.

Rape is present in western society but at least there are laws and/or societal taboos against it. Apparently in that Saudi Muslim sect rape is enabled, endorsed and perpetuated but not prosecuted. Are there even laws on the books, not Koran teachings but are there actual anti rape laws in Saudi Arabia? When diplomatic staff in multiple countries exhibit the same type of behavior that is a big cultural problem especially when they know that behavior is illegal and frowned upon. That is not a statistical anomaly.
 
Frankly, I view the tacit acceptance of rape in a so-called enlightened society as far more heinous. What is our excuse? Speaking as a woman, the laws don't matter squat over ninety percent of the time. It is often preferable to point fingers at our so-called "savage" Middle Eastern perpetrators, while ignoring the invisible elephant so prevalent in our respective back yards. I have worked as a rape counselor for over twenty-five years, I am well aware of just how broken the system is.

Rape and other crimes will always be there but not at the level we see in certain areas. There might be perverse or criminal views on rape but at least there are laws against and the subject talked about, might not be to one's liking but most in North America know rape is a crime. Like other crimes there always be some that will try to get away with it. I don't see these Saudi's trying to get away with it because they feel entitled to it.
