It was so muggy last night, I brought one of the dehumidifiers up from the cellar hoping it would help, but it made things worse temperature-wise.

I don't have an AC. That's why I tried the DH. We're in for several days of temps in the mid to upper 90sF.When a dehumidifier compressor is cycling, it releases warm air...not much....but if you feel the exhaust, it will be a bit warm. If you want to cool the room/house, you need to run the AC.
The "heat dome" headed your way is right over us, now. We will have temps in the upper 90's, and heat indexes over 100 for this next week. At the bare minimum, you should get a window AC unit...they aren't that expensive.I don't have an AC. That's why I tried the DH. We're in for several days of temps in the mid to upper 90sF.
What do you need to lift it for? The place you buy the a/c will install it for you.I can't lift a window unit and I'd need one in two rooms - bedroom and the room where my computer is.
There is an Amazing company called Home Depot. Not only will they deliver for example an 8000 btu window A'C but you can have them install it.The expense isn't the problem, it's the maneuverability. I can lift anything over 25 pounds.
Of course! For goodness sake! There is an Amazing company called Home Depot. Not only will they deliver for example an 8000 btu window A'C but you can have them install it.
Of course that isn't free but between comfort & leaving money unspent my choice is comfort wins every time.
Probably get the same @ Lowes.
I would also look for one of these portable units on wheels that don’t need to be hoisted in and out of the window every year. There is an Amazing company called Home Depot. Not only will they deliver for example an 8000 btu window A'C but you can have them install it.

We have one of those for the garage. Not to cool the garage just to cool the area where we have the extra refrigerator/freezer. It doesn't really work all that good but good enough to do what we use it for.I would also look for one of these portable units on wheels that don’t need to be hoisted in and out of the window every year.

With this heat dome headed your way, starting tomorrow, and extending for 3 or 4 days, it's a bit late to consider buying a couple of window AC's. Your Only options would be sitting in front of a good fan....if you have one....or checking your area for a "cooling center" where you can hang out for several hours a day. If you stay in your hot house these next few days, you risk having a heat stroke. My first thought was a portable, but moving from room to room would require reinstalling it the window every time.
