So frustrated at the few self-entitled folks here...

No, but we know who those that like to report others are. :D

A few have chimed in that that's the answer. Problem with reporting is that Matrix has to either take the time to clean up reported posts or lock/delete threads. Far better for adults to act like adults in the first place and behave according to the wishes of the host.

Why, why, why......with all of the forums on the net that allow and even encourage political chatter up to and including verbal combat is it necessary to argue for changing this forum? SF content is hardly limited to "basket weaving". If you don't like the no politics rule, go to one of those other sites and allow those of us who appreciate, what Matrix has created, this one place of civility.

Agreed. While I'll be the first to admit I sometimes post slightly snarky political innuendos, I belong to a forum that is completely political and if I want the "gloves to come off" I go there.

Or have the sense not to bother our host. Our host reacts to what bothers others - which says a lot.

When I was teaching we would take our Year 10 students to Canberra on an overnight excursion. We visited Canberra highlights such as the Australian War Museum, the Indonesian Embassy and Parliament House. Sometimes the House was in session and the girls spent some time in the visitors' gallery.

I remember one occasion, when it was the last day of the current session and the government was trying to push through a stack of bills in a hurry, without careful consideration. The Opposition was engaged in stalling tactics and cries of "Ring the bells" were coming thick and fast. Some of the exchanges across the floor were fairly fruity, and the girls looked on with astonishment to see how the nation's lawmakers behaved at their place of work.

I had to debrief them on the bus as we left Canberra, explaining the tactics that were being played out. Their take on the matter was that they would get detention if they tried the same at school.

Talk about race and ethnicities is taboo but no one questions that. Also sex. True for almost all public forums.
I beg to differ about "sex " being taboo here on SF. Many past discussions have taken place, where members discussed ( in a civil way ) their positions on homosexuality, BDSM, and "Alternative life styles " without the need for strong moderation efforts by Matrix. Freedom of speech, and all that, right ? JIM.

If you've read thorough the thread you'll see that the majority of people are bothered or at least appreciate an Internet space without politics. That's the reason the rule was implemented in the first place.

I think it is better to report a post rather than let it escalate on the thread.

The whole point of this thread is that politics do escalate and threads are locked or deleted.

It's easy to just stop reading a thread if you don't like its tone. It's also very easy to skip certain posters comments, I don't even put them on ignore, I just skip their postings.

If a thread gets shut down that's too bad but nothing to get upset about, that's just life on the internet.

Hellelujah. :)
I naively posted a personal viewpoint that was taken as political. I was shocked by this. But afterwards, I thought the readers can't read my mind that my question had nothing to do with politics. o_O So....., oops.

It’s interesting to me that Matrix is about the only person that hasn’t weighed in on this thread.
He doesn't need to...AGAIN, nor in the future each time groups of new members arrive with the same questions. We've already posted links to what he has related and there is a sub-forum, Forum Support & Suggestions, where that information exists and should be read, though obviously, some are too lazy to bother.
