Were you ever 'sorry' re: cell phone

We got out first mobile phone about 4 months ago when the cable guy cut our ATT landlines and ruined our lives. It looked like the thing above, it's called an "android" phone. I found that out later, which is one reason all the tutorials I watched on YouTube didn't seem to apply. We punched at it for days till my son said we were supposed to swipe it. Most of the time it didn't hear our swipe and we never did manage to make a phone call with it although we saw lots of apps to do other things we weren't interested in.

So we decided to go backwards and trade it in for a flip phone which most people started with 25 years ago. We can use it a little bit although it takes a lot of work and I still accidently hang up on people all the time because the off switch is right under where my thumb goes when I pick it up. I managed to receive a voice mail for the first time the other day, it took 8 punches. At least I'll be able to call 911 if I'm having a stroke now although I could probably drive to the hospital faster.

WHY? That's what I keep wondering. Why is this better than being able to pick up a landline receiver ( perfectly designed to curve around my face) and say "hello?' Two steps. Pick it up. Speak.

Don't you just freaking love the patient portal?! And text reminders, that too. Loving this modern life.
I do like the patient portal but sometimes you need a text or a phone call. For example, last month I was checking my patient portal and noticed that my colonoscopy and endoscopy date was changed from what I had on my calendar. I called and they said that, yes, it had been changed. I asked why I hadn't been notified and they said, well, it was on the patient portal. The problem is that I don't check the patient portal EVERY FREAKIN' DAY just to see if an appointment was changed.

Luckily, it was no problem but I would have been p!ssed if it WAS a problem. They apologized, but......

Yeah, that is weird (and so unhelpful) that they didn't notify you in some other way. Because why would you check the patient portal without a reason? A quick notification text would do. Sheesh. Glad you caught it. :)

when the cable guy cut our ATT landlines
Different carrier, but I sure wish they’d let us get rid of our landline. We have to renew tv, internet, phone every two years. Went through all the questions and thought we’d renewed the landline for the same low price. Yes, but they added on $12 for long distance. The guy argued with us that we must have this. No matter how many times we said we didn’t call Europe or the US, he argued that we needed it. Obviously he was getting rewards for having us keep that stupid landline.

We still have the landline, no long distance plan, to keep our package rate.

This was one of those times they didn’t send a Rate Me. I would have loved to have done that.

The cable guy told me I just had to have Zumo "for the grandkids" who would love it. I have no grandchildren, but he so overwhelmed me during the four hours he was here that I had already learned to pick my battles and said nothing.

Brightspeed did the same thing to me. Cut my drop and refused to fix it.
Wanted to switch me to 4G for the same monthly cost. Did ATT offer 4G.
You would have been able to keep your old phones if they did.

Im not paying the same money for a downgrade. Since I have Spectrum cable and internet I can get a phone from them for $15 a month. Its Voip which means that when the power goes out you lose your phone. But its the same with 4G.
I have a cell phone so Im okay if I lose power. I like to have one for out and abouts anyways.

With Spectrum I kept all my old phones. They just tied into the terminal on the side of the house.

My patient portal is thru my email. I tell everybody I dont text. Email is my form of text. :D

I absolutely hate to text. I can answer a text where you push the buttons for yes no okay.
But dont expect any typing. You dont want me to text you.
By the time I finally manage one I have cursed your ancestors six times..

I hate talking on any phone. I put up with it for important business calls but anything social, I only answer txts. I don't pick up any phone calls
But I use the phone for all kinds of things. Photos are the best and so convenient too. Just today I used my phone to take a couple of pics of something I needed to show someone coming to do some work on the house. How else would I have been able to show them by email or txt?

My husband had an unknown phone call on Thursday. He debated and finally decided to answer. It’s been someone in the medical system he’s been waiting to hear from for months. A good conversation that he wouldn’t have had if he hadn’t answered. Me, I decline everyone. We just never know.

A couple of times there were alarming results on the patient portal. No input from the doctor. Days later I'm told not to worry about it.
That happened to me as well. I found out I had Hashimoto's when checking the patient portal and had to call the office for confirmation. My Primary said the Rheumatologist found it and thought she would have called me.

Honestly, given the circumstances, I was glad for the patient portal because who knows when I would have found out otherwise?

So if I call you it's going to make you mad so I'm expected to use my phone to text you even though it would take me about twenty minutes to write a simple sentence in text with my phone's method of using something that looks like this: To type "cat" I push the 3, 3 times fast, to type the a I push the 2 once, to make the t push the 8 once (oops too hard now I have a u.) It's all very intense and touchy and so very easy to make a mistake and hard to back up and try again. But that's how you want it because speaking on a phone makes you mad. I don't get it.

It looks like this.

I had a cell phone before they were popular. I worked for a global electronic company, so we were required to have them. a few years ago, when I retired, I got rid of that cell phone and never looked back. I don't want to be that available! If I am going to be away from my family, I provide them with how they can get hold of me, as I always had. It works fine... I had already learned that it is not a good thing to be available to everyone 24/7!

I just don't like talking on a phone. Doesn't particularly make me angry; I find it is often irritating to me because more often than not, there's a lot of irrevelant chatter that ensues as part of a phone conversation which is what I don't care for. Texting is so much more efficient. Communicate required info. and avoid the needless chatter. Not saying others shouldn't use their phones but I simply don't care to.
