A Few Things Stay the Same

Lying in bed listening to the foghorn going in the next fishing village along the coast, just as I did 75 years ago (different village, different country.

Nice to know that some things have not been overtaken by electronics!

Listening to a ticking clock at night as I drift off to sleep like I did as a tiny girl at my Gran's house. And I still love the sound of rain falling. It's just ... eternal.

I'd rather be listening to a foghorn from a nearby fishing village but I am thankful to hear wild animals some evenings. Owls, coyotes who have a den nearby, and all sorts of sounds coming from the wild animal rescue preserve behind our house. I also like to hear the wind (if it's not too wild) and rain.

When I lived in Vancouver, B.C. every day the 9 o'clock gun went off, a cannon fired at exactly the same time from Stanley Park that could be heard throughout the city. Boom!

These days, its the birds outside, tweeting and twittering in the trees outside my place all day long and especially in the early early morning, they make a real racket, but its a nice racket.

Rain is very nice! Especially if you have not seen a drop in several months! Ya got no idea how much we here in the arid desert appreciate a bit of rain, however brief it may be! imp

I live in the harbor area here. We get all of those sounds; tug boats signaling each other, cruise ships blowing their horns when departing,
train whistles while they're transferring cargo from one place to another. And the seagulls! So many of them; and they'll steal your food if you're dining outdoors.

Nice thoughts Laurie, I love all the sounds of nature and the quiet and peace it brings. It would serve us all well to take breaks from electronics now and then, and remember the true beauty of this life of ours.

We have a couple of mourning doves who sit up on the power lines and coo. I remember that from my childhood and my mom said I used
to coo back at them. Also, sometimes at night I hear the lonely sound of a train whistle in the distance. I love that sound and used to
hear them when I was little too.
