Little Known or Forgotten Movies That You have Enjoyed

Ever see a well known movie and end up disappointed, but then see a movie you never heard of and totally enjoy it?
There are three I can think of. One I just saw was a 1950 Jimmy Durante movie called The Great Rupert. Rupert by the way was a dancing squirrel.

Peyton Place was the first movie I saw in wide screen. I forget what they called it. I have no recollection of the plot but the opening photography was amazing!

I like documentaries, especially if the one it's about is in them.
Gordon's doc. was made just prior to his death and told by him.
Not a movie per say, but if you love his music, it's a good one to see.
I hope this link doesn't get removed for copyrights. Sometimes that happens.

I didn't see this until my husband (then boyfriend) brought it over for me to watch when I had some busted ribs. I almost couldn't watch if for all of the laughing.

I went to see this in one of the last neighborhood theaters. You didn't have drive to the mall to see it.
i think I was only one getting the subtle/dry humor half the time. I was laughing out loud.

I never thought much of Jimmy Durante but his outrageousness was used very effectively in The Man Who Came To Dinner.

I thought it was one of most original sci-fi movies I had scene in a long time. It's from 1989, so the special effects are what they are.

I think I may have seen this one when it came out. It sounds familiar. But I don't recall what it was about.

A mob moll protecting a little boy who witnessed his family's executions by the mob. Oh my, typing that out, it sounds horrid, doesn't it?! But I really liked it and the ending still brings tears.

You may know that Durante's character, "Banjo", had originally been written for "Harpo" Marx when it was on Broadway. Banjo was one of Durante's greatest performances in a movie. It still cracks me up.

I loved "Eating Raoul". It's about a nice couple, who want to open a restaurant, except they just murder "swingers" to get the cash.

@againstthegrain Both those movies were almost blockbusters. From the title of this thread, I assumed we were talking about little-known films.

Nothing came into my mind, but I thought I might remember something from others' posts. The only one on here that I saw was Bagdad Cafe. I recall liking it a lot.

Runaway Train (1985)

Then they discover a stowaway railroad worker who's just as desperate to survive as they are. Jon Voight and Eric Roberts star in Oscar-nominated performances, and Rebecca De Mornay also stars. Beautifully shot by Alan Hume ("For Your Eyes Only"), with top-notch direction by Andrei Konchalovsky ("Maria's Lovers") and based on a screenplay by Akira Kurosawa ("The Seven Samurai").
