Bed Bugs at Hotel !

For the last week I have been noticing bite marks / redness and itching. Earlier today I looked in the mirror. I sleep on my left side. Wow. Dozens of bites & marks ! Never a problem at this hotel. Not work related. Several Uber rides in past week ? I did check out for a day or two before noticing. On good terms with Owner & Staff. It's 4 A.M. Of course my luggage with work clothes etc were kept on the bed. First experience of this kind 😝
 

The thing about bed bugs is that you can get them in the luxury hotels as much as any other ones. You can get one in a doctor's waiting room or in a taxi cab and then you have many. They seem to come into my apartment building from thrift stores. So I stopped shopping at those. We just had to have a few apartments sprayed after a new person moved in and had them in her belongs and didn't know it.

I am very picky about whose apartment I ever go into and I always check the washers and dryers before I use them. I sprinkle lavender or peppermint essential outside my door and I don't know if it helps or not. But I have not had any in 2 or 3 years now. Preparing for them to come in and spray is a nightmare.

No, the higher end hotels have professional exterminator come in to inspect/exterminate periodically. The lower end hotels/motels won't budget for this expense. Airbnb apartments are all owned by individual private owners, they lack the knowledge and/or won't spend the money to do the job. It is difficult for the guests to prove their bed bugs problems anyway.

The place to check a bed for bedbugs is under the mattress and along the sides near the bottom. Brown stains. If you find one teeny tiny bug, you usually have more. They are horrible. They can survive for years without a blood meal and will go into electrical outlets, your electronics, in the wood work, etc.

You do not just get from hotels, you get them from people. Don't store anything under your beds. Less clutter too. I have researched this subject so much since I moved into an apartment building. Our building is sprayed often.

What's worse, you bring them back to your car and house. Then everything needs to be treated.

Like you and @C50, I'm diligent about inspection hotels for those little reddish-brown telltale spots. Never found any, thank heavens, but I continue to check.
 
luckily for me Ive never had this problem - despite travelling quite a lot and sleeping in different beds. I store some things under my beds and I don't strip hotel beds or anything like that.
 
Many years ago, we stayed at a holiday apartment in Byron Bay N.S.W. Everything was fine for a couple of days and then the itching started. We were driven made so went to the nearest Chemist shop and asked about it. The Chemist said it was probably Sand-Fly bites and should be taking Vitamin B tablets before we came there?????How were we to know about Sand-Flys? But looking now at previous comments, it was probably bed
bugs. I saw on the internet whenever you stay at a hotel always lift the end sheets and blankets, they get out the iron and put it on hot, then iron on the sheets and immediately you can see the bed bugs come to the surface. Then you go to the office and ask them to come and have a look, then demand a different room.

as we’ve only recently returned from a 7 week stay in Queensland , we stopped over at 3 locations going to QLD and the same travelling home ( it’s 2.300 km each way) I inspect the bedding ….twice I found the top sheet that had been used by the previous traveller~ had been used on the bottom for us ….i could smell it :sick::sick:

And it very noticeable if they are fresh sheets …they will often have fold marks in them and smell “ fresh”

No bugs tho
I NEVER use cups or utensils supplies by the motel …Ive seen way to many being wiped / cleaned using / used bath towels :sick::sick::sick::sick:

Its easy to carry a bag with our own supplies I’ve got a bag just a little larger then a iPad bag with my cups small plates / cutlery

My travel days are over, I think. However, the last ten years traveling were in my vehicle and that is where I slept. When I downsized to a mini-van, I ordered a small cot that would fit in the mini-van. Take my camping gear and go. No bedbugs!

Most hotels don't change the decorative bed throws/tops. I usually remove those decorative pillows and bed throws when I get in the hotel room. I only sleep on plain white sheets and pillows in hotels. A lot of cheap hotels and Airbnb use colored/ patterned pillows and sheets to hide the worn/soiled fabrics.

100% agree …..many I’ve found state in their adds ….online rooms are “ COVID cleaned …..Well ….i would have hated To seen them before they were Covid cleaned ….

Experienced bed bugs in a hotel in Ohio, over a decade ago. Didn't know it was them, but had several bites that lasted for days. Researched the topic and contacted the hotel. They confirmed that the bed was infested. I never went back there again.
 
Well. Look at the head board….bed bugs feed on blood and leave about the same size waste products as flys. If there are little black spots on the headboard close to the mattress…well that is a sign of either past or present infestation.
