Thoughts on smart gyms

Looking into buying a smart gym to use in the house. Trying to decide between the Tonal, Speediance Gym Monster 2 and the Oxefit S1.

Anyone have any personal experience or opinions? I would go with a stand alone system (dumb) but the wife wants to go with a smart gym to help guide thru the various exercises.

Join a gym and get a trainer for both of you. Learn what you actually really need in terms of equipment and how to do the exercises properly before spending a big chunk on a "complete gym."

Or buy a couple stand alone pieces like a weight bench, a set of adjustable dumbbells, a few bands, and some mats to keep you busy building the strength training habit, before sinking big bucks on a piece of equipment.

You can always watch Youtube Videos for your age and experience...
Yes, start with the above suggestion.

Using your body weight is the simplest and yet effective way to ease into a physical fitness routine. Plenty of free YouTube videos, lots of different styles of work outs, and zero dollars spent.

Not a chance, they're weights. I can make my own out of just about anything. Don't need smart watches or any of those things either. I can use a stopwatch or count in my head. Don't need one of Peloton things either, I know how to run and walk by myself 😂😂. People actually don't need to pay anyone to stay healthy.

To answer the original question.

I know my buddy has some sort of smart trainer, it's attached to the wall and has cable resistance. He hates it, but also doesn't like that kind of workout, he also has a smart trainer he puts his bike on, that he uses all winter. His wife uses the wall trainer and likes it but still goes to palates and yoga classes.

It takes a lot of discipline to head down to the basement and work out, most people won't stick with it no matter how fancy the equipment is. My advice is always the same, start exercising and eating right before investing a load of money in gear, if you embrace the lifestyle then buy whatever you want.

Once last thought. Every healthy lifestyle begins at the grocery store, don't buy junk!

Not familiar with the term "smart gym" but googling it shows very expensive exercise equipment, some of which cost many times a typical annual gym membership fee.

The downside of home gym equipment: becomes auxiliary garment rack.
The upside of gym membership: availability of human trainers to help you do an effective exercise routine, without injuring yourself. many gyms have classes like Silver Sneakers, or Active Aging that are geared to seniors. Social contact is valuable in it's own right, and people draw energy from a group workout.

True story.
