Do you order a salad with your meal?

At dinner out with the entire family last night most everyone ordered the salad with their meal.
My oldest son had ordered one also but there was something different about his.
His came out presented as a lettuce wedge not chopped. I had not seen this in decades.
Of course it being different everyone had to comment on it. Then he explained.
"I never eat a chopped salad because I don't know how long that has been chopped up and sitting
in the air to dry, gather dust and other things in the air. A wedge they won't cut until ordered and even if they do
it's packed tight and less vulnerable than already chopped".
The whole table got quiet, eyes got big and "Wow, that makes sense" began popping out.
I think there will be an increase suddenly for wedge salad now.
Yes you do have to cut/chop it yourself. It came with dressing on the side.
Another way I guess, to show how we take convenience of less work over being a bit safer in healthy habits.

Seeing as how I don't frequent restaurants and cafes, and I cook my own food.

"Tim, did you get some salad to go with the meal?"

"No. Tim, you never asked me to get any."

"Honestly, Tim, you're dim as a dead light bulb."

"Well, next time you go to the shops, Tim, get some salad, then you can have some with your next meal." 😊

I had a wedge salad recently. It's making a come back. I wonder if Chicken a la King will make It's way back from the seventies. 🤔🙂

We most always order salad when we eat out, (not a wedge) either as an appetizer, or a side with the main meal. I always ask for the light vinaigrette dressing.

We eat lots of salads at home too, Ron usually preps them while I’m making dinner.

If I do order a wedge, it’s typically as an appetizer, but then my meal is very light because the wedge has so much going on (heavy dressing, bacon etc toppings) that it fills me up far more than a lose salad would. Often I’ll just order another appetizer as my main meal.

I'm fine having a meal with no salad, or a large salad with no meal.

Sometimes, I've ordered a salad on the side if I'm having pizza or a meal that's mainly pasta.

A wedge salad is something new to me. I've never been anywhere that served those - but I don't eat red meat, so I don't go to steak houses, if that's where they're usually found. I wouldn't get one. I don't want to eat the wedge whole, or cut into it, making a mess trying to get it into bite size portions.

I remember when Banquet sold them. Just boil and pour over bread. I would love to see them come back.
Oh yes! They were... hmmm....either "Cookin' Bags " or "Boilin' Bags" weren't they? They were three for $1.00 and I liked the Ala King. They also had a Veal (or maybe Chicken) Parmesan that I liked, too. Let me see if I can find a pic. Okay, got one. I don't think the Sloppy Joe was ever available in my area.

Bob Evan’s still makes sausage gravy in pouches, two pouches per package.

A bit spendy and not easy to find but it makes a quick meal over a potato, toast,

No, because it’s too much for me to eat with a restaurant meal. And the cost would stop me too. They’re ~$15.

Bagged salad, even though triple washed, are strongly recommended to be washed again. I know the restaurants don’t. If I’m served a small side salad, I’ll eat it. I’m other playing these odds about once a month, if that.

I make it every time I have leftovers from a rotisserie chicken. Sometimes, we eat it over biscuits. Sometimes, I put the stuff in a baking dish and put the biscuits on top to bake. Soft of makes a chicken ala king pot pie.

Cracker barrels side salad is $2.19 but it's itty bitty. The other places the average salad is $10 and the entree salads are $20. The average salad at a decent restaurant is around $15. It's ridiculous. One place they listed in KS the all you can eat one was $10. A garden salad at Big Cheese here is around $5.

Anymore I just order my food and have my salad at home.

I rarely eat out any longer but when I was eating out I had stopped ordering salads many years earlier. I love salad, eat one most every day and have since I was a child, but restaurant salads started tasting bad to me, tasted like they were coated in chemicals or tired old bagged ingredients.

So now I have a salad for lunch almost everyday, but I make it myself out of the freshest ingredients I can.

We mostly eat at home and have a big salad every single night. It can (but not always) include avocado, dates, olives, tomatoes, blue cheese crumbles, hard boiled egg, red pepper, pasta or lettuce, dressing. Sometimes we will mix in cut up chunks of chicken or salmon or swordfish or steak for the main meal but there is always the salad.

I don't take the side salad, not because of what My son said, but because I hate the way my dentures feel like lettuce is stuck to them and it won't come off unless I use my finger to slide it. Or the lettuce slips under the plate, I hate that even more. Hate dentures more than any of it truthfully but bone disease was making my teeth just fall out, so there I am.
