Hearing Aids

I picked up my new behind the ear Phonak Audeo 190 Sphere rechargeable hearing aids 2 or 3 weeks ago from the VA (my third pair from the VA).....they are made in Switzerland and the charger is made in Lithuania.

So far I like them, the sound clarity is considerably better than my old pair and background noise is darn near non existent.

My first two pair of Phonaks from the VA were the changeable battery type and I was hesitant about rechargeables but the test technician was cute as a bug and I let her sweet talk me into trying them :).....I've got 90 days to return them if I end up not liking them for something else / another brand but I don't foresee that happening.

Things are starting to sound muffled and garbled to me, also. The last time I saw my doctor, I mentioned this and she suggested I see an ENT. When I called one, I was told I needed a referral script. I said I had a verbal script. They need something in writing. I called my PCP and told her that and she said to come in and see her. I'm not making another appointment and paying a $100 co-pay so she can give me a script.

Me too. I barely heard anything at my library book club. I nod and smile a lot in agreement with what I don't hear. Don't know what the other person said and I say WHAT too often. It really adds to my isolation, not being able to discern words.
Folks, if you are having problems hearing, go get your hearing tested by a qualified doctor. If he establishes that you have lost some of your hearing abilities, ask if he thinks hearing aids will help. Most likely he will tell you to try them as the usually help a lot. In today's world, they are not real expensive, and you can get some that go inside the ear that work well. I have walked down this road and after I got my hearing aids, I never looked back. I can hear great with them, and they are not really noticeable in my ears. No reason to go around with bad hearing in today's world. Just get with it and fix the problem!

My hearing stinks and so does my eyesight. Macular deg. I wear 2 hearing aids and glasses even though neither one is perfect. Without them I'm totally lost. So I opt for so-so and at my age, 86, it's okay. My aids are rechargeable, just put them in the little case overnight. At night nothing wakes me, which is fine. They were $1200.00;each. But no batteries and a 3 year warranty which covered adjustments. Medicare did not pay but now does pay for yearly exams. They from are the company called WIDEX. I went to an audiologist.

It's hard to hear in restaurants but only if a large group. Hard to hear people that talk to you from amother room...DH, and look away while talking, or people whispering! Forget that! Use closed captions always, female voices on our TV all sound like Chipmunks.

For me, it's better than nothing and i could connect them to sync but that's too much more aggravation so i manually adjust when needed.

Thanks for listening! I'm done now.

My hearing aids were 8 years old and weren't working as well as they once did. I had my hearing tested again and it had changed considerably. New aids and everything is good again. The brand is Oticon. The advancements on the new aids is impressive, even if, I don't use most of them. Hearing in public is much better than the old ones, except in a very noisy environment or in a large space that echoes. We'll be at a wedding later and will see how that goes.

Well, some people do mumble. Mostly people under the age of 30. I have absolutely no problem hearing or understanding people who are older than that, but the young folks talk very fast, and usually too softly. I find myself saying, "What?" a lot when talking with them.

Same thing on TV. I really think the problem is the quality of TV sound, not my hearing. People reading or discussing the news, and older actors come through loud and clear. Younger actors, not so much. Fortunately, TV comes with closed captions. I wish people came with them as well. Maybe the words could be hovering in the air above their heads, while they mumble?

But it would probably be run by A-I, so there would be a lot of misunderstanding in the translation.
