"I believe in redemption or I wouldn't be doing this job ... but based on the legal standards, we find that you continue to pose an unreasonable risk to public safety," Parole Commissioner Robert Barton said.

There are arguments for both sides, but there was no imminent threat when this 18 year-old mercilessly shot his mother to death. Good decision IMO.

I assume these two brothers can still claim their inheritance if they get out of jail, and use it to pay the high lawyer's fees. Otherwise, no lawyers would take this ancient murder case.
I mean, really, other than the lawyers, who cares if the brothers are in or out of jail now, and why do lawyers care? for money of course. I wouldn't be surprised if there are lawyers out there digging out old cases to find opportunities for money.

I don’t believe that these men pose any threat to the public and they are probably very different people than they were when they killed their parents but they did it and the crime has consequences.

It will be interesting to see if his brother is released today and it will also be interesting to see if the Governor pardons them at some point in the future.

IMO this doesn’t deserve the prominent place in the news cycle or the enormous expense to taxpayers, it should simply follow the normal parole review process.

The original sentence was life w/o parole. Committing 2 murders is bad enough, but when it’s the killer’s own parents, that makes it worse. Whether they were scared or whatever reason they gave, they had other options instead of committing a double murder.

And, they never proved their case of being sexually abused. It would have been hard to believe that these 2 strapping young men couldn’t have come up with an alternate solution to get away from their parents, instead of blowing their heads off, if the abuse was real.

In 1988, Erik wrote a letter to his cousin telling him about the abuse. He then participated in the killings in 1989. One might think the letter was part of a ploy to set up an alibi for the killings that were to come. Erik took full responsibility for his part in the murders blaming no one, but himself.

Everybody gets churchy in prison. Well, the bros weren't all that redeemed when they plotted to off mom & dad. They were so remorseful, they could barely buy their new sports cars.
I think they should get out of prison when mom & dad can testify at their parole hearings.
I always thought the brothers were manipulative psychopaths, especially putting on the "puppy dog act" with women.

Agree. The bros weren't bewildered teens. At the time of the murders, Eick was 23 and Lyle 20, they could have walked out the door any time they wanted.

I watched the original trials and believe me, such poor acting from these two monsters, engineered by their dreadful lawyers, made me sick.

I read extensively about it and the woman that interviewed them from the FBI. They certainly sounded like abused children in their lives. The father sounded like a monster. THe idea that two brothers would be just born like that is hard to believe. The father was very controlling and that is a sign. When children or a spouse is horribly abused I think that excuses many retaliatory behaviors later on. Extenuating circumstances I guess...I grew up beside a family of children. Four of them were horribly abused by an uncle. And nothing was done. THey grew up screwed up in many ways.........My BF (one of the sons) has been an alcoholic for years and tried suicide a few years ago. Has had LOTS of therapy.

But your BF didn't kill anybody. I mean of course there are people who suffer from being abused, but they still don't murder abusers.

There was no evidence, whatsoever, that these 2 were sexually abused as alleged. That their father could bully them was rather obvious,
since, he went to great lengths to make them the greatest in tennis and scholastic endeavors. They went to the best schools, and he pushed like crazy, using big bucks to get Lyle reinstated in Princeton.

They took these kids everywhere, trying to teach them to be better than they were. I watched both trials, and their manipulating lawyers pushed them into the worst acting drama I've ever seen in a courtroom. And I have been in plenty.

Regardless of how it was presented, and accepted or not, to have done what these monsters did is beyond reprehensible. They were old enough to know better. Eric's excuse saying they did not leave instead of killing his parents, meant death is plain stupid.

When I was growing up I had real issues with my father. Never thought about killing him ever. Just waited until I graduated high school and left, issue resolved. While I'm sure it has affected my personality a little, it was nothing I couldn't overcome. I never felt damaged or dysfunctional, just aware and always striving to improve myself.

Just another challenge in what life throws our way, I don't feel bitter or handicapped emotionally.

I agree. Maybe they were more tired of being pushed towards being better at what they were expected to do. Sometimes children in elite families feel a sense of entitlement and believe in just give it to me, instead of making me to have to work for it. I know of such families with children that do get the better things in life handed to them. Elitists are some if the worse people we will have to deal with.

I saw it on my planes more often than I wanted. From time to time, we would have a passenger in first class giving our flight attendants a hard time for some of the dumbest reasons you could think of. If my first officer or I had to go speak with them, it was a short conversation. “If you want to stay on this plane, I would highly recommend that you stop being belligerent to our flight attendants. If I have to land and have you removed, you will most likely be arrested.” That usually stopped the garbage flowing out of their mouth.
