Kids here go back to school on the Tuesday after Labour Day. They’ll excited and disappointed at the same time.

I'm glad to see Labor Day come, after which, the old fogies like DH and I can vacay around other old fogies in cooler weather and quiet.

Labour Day where I live is Monday 6th October and it is a public holiday. It used to be called "10 hour day" and later "8 hour day", celebrating improvements for working people. These improvements, including the 40 hour working week, were hard won by trade unions.

For most of us Labor Day is the entrance to the fall, Halloween, Thanksgiving and the Christmas season. Like myself, fall is the Holidays and Football. My favorite time of year.

For me, Labor Day is the week of my birthday. My parents had 5 kids, all born on a holiday...in birth order: new year's eve 1941.....labor day 1946.....memorial day 1949....halloween 1953.....and election day 1956.

Well, I would but I'm waiting for the January "White Sales" so I can get a king-sized sheet set to make one out of.

I'll use the pillow slips to make the bikini and the rest to make a burqua to wear over it. That's my present to mankind.

I was just thinking how I only have a few more days to wear my white keds and jeans. Not exactly the same though.

@jujube reminded me of Marsha Warfield's stand-up routine about getting help folding her underwear at the laundromat, "Take one end and walk this way."

I just can’t wear my canvas shoes. It’s just wrong. I don’t have any white jeans or pants. I’ve already quit wearing pastel coloured dresses.

I am really sorry to be so indifferent to white in general, white keds, white jeans, white canvas, bikini's, etc. It's football season, It's yellow and red trees, It's leaf pickup signs all over town. It's wool shirts and making sure the fireplace is ready. Its natures color and crisp air. It is football EVERY WEEK. It is the Holidays, the get togethers and the warmth of family and friends. It is the best time of the year. Just my feelings and thoughts.

We usually have a family get together for Labor Day. We grill, potluck sides, pitcher of cocktails, sit around the fire pit. It’s a relaxing gathering.

My parents used to have a clam steam on Labor Day. Since I didn't like clams, mom would fix me up a little cheesecloth bag with chicken and a hot dog and put it in the steamer. Of course there were sides also cooked in the steamer like potatoes, whole onions and corn on the cob.
