I've never joined a dating site, I am always wary of misrepresentation. It's natural to behave your best online, but that doesn't expose the real person and all of their traits and flaws that might be a big deterrent for you.
That being said I am guilty of having several online relationships that ended up in disaster. 2 of them progressed to phone calls and then actual meet ups. No matter how close you become online, it is not reality.
One of these ladies was very nice and I hope she is faring well. The other was deceptive about things and had some mental issues.
We exchanged photos of course, but after meeting there was no physical attraction for me in either case. That pretty much ruined the romance. A woman doesn't have to be a classic beauty, but you have to be attracted to her smile, laugh, sense of humor, the way her eyes show her emotions, her mannerisms, her voice, ect.
I learned a hard lesson and won't go down that road again. It would be nice to have a close female friend to chat about everything with. But for me it could only go as far as close friends.
Well, that's just one perspective. It's always good to have many when contemplating something new or unknown.
