Hiking in coyote land; this morning I saw two of them. ...................Hiking is for my feet, and the mini gym is for my arms and general health.

Left: I liked this Belgian Malinois at the County Shelter, but he had a rash. The Shelter Veterinarian had no clue what it is but gave him an antibiotic shot. The next morning at home his face had gotten much worse, and even his eyes were affected. I was afraid that the rash could be infectious and my pack could get it. So, with a bleeding heart, I returned the poor guy to the shelter. If they can heal it, I'll take him again. The Mali is 2 y/o and 50 pounds but looks larger than my older pups between 65 and 96 pounds. PS, behind the Boxers are my wife's chicken supplies.
Right: In the meantime, I discovered that the www.westcoastboxerrescue.org has a dozen Boxers listed on their website. Well, I don't expect that they will give me this fabulous guy, but I prefer to adopt a decent Boxer to any other breed. I even paid $10 for my application, and I keep my fingers crossed. It can take up to ten days before this volunteer group lets me know. My boys are going downhill, and I am looking for replacement.

@hollydolly I sent you a picture of Mali's blisters.

I wonder what has caused the rash on the Mali's face... never heard of that before...

I took advantage of another relatively cool morning to continue straightening up in the garden patches.

There's a plant that sends up shoots all over. I must have dug up 8 or 9. They grown on a long underground runners. Google Lens shows many similar plants, but my guess is staghorn sumac (see photo). We haven't had but an occasional splash-and-dash shower. The ground is dust no matter how far down I dug.

The catnip is all but burnt to a crisp. I hope the roots can take the drought and it will return next year.

A few mullein seedlings - they look like fuzzy cabbage leaves. No problem with those - the roots are shallow and can easily be pulled out by hand.

Also cut back the dried up milkweed stalks. The milkweeds are great-grandchildren of milkweed seeds I brought from the old house. I let them grow, but never see any monarch caterpillars on them. They may like milkweed, but it is an ugly plant and worse looking when it dries out. Makes the whole place look unkempt.

That's enough for me today!

Beautiful, hot, sunny day! Was just out, reading a psychological self-help book, which was recommended here by someone:
Feeling Good, the New Mood Therapy by Dr. David Burns. Thanks, SFer, I forgot who you are!

This morning podiatrist burst repulsive blood blister, UGH! Left foot pretty swollen. She, the doc, sending nurse to me 3X a week to change complicated dressing. Also put on forgot what you call them, pills against infection. Oh, my busted brain. Anyway, you all know what I mean. See this doc again in two weeks. She is very caring, gentle. She stuck needles in various toes which did not hurt.

I am hobbling, but what's the rush?

Has anyone here ( ladies ) worn Hoka trainers( sneakers) ?

I wear mostly Skechers.. but I have various other brands I own too, like Adidas, Slazenger, Nike, Levis'.. etc.. and I have many boots..Skecher boots amongst them

I first came across Skechers some years ago when I got Plantar fascitis from standing 10-12 hours a day on concrete studio floors and my feet were so painful I would have happily allowed someone to amputate them

The Skechers, in particular and the other cushioned sole trainers were the saving of my feet.. and I have many pairs now ..

however having worn trainers all summer ..as I usually do... yesterday it was raining so I went out wearing ankle boots.. They're these... not my best quality boots, or skechers, but smart boots anyway ...

I had to walk a little bit yesterday...probably all in all less than 2 miles... and my feet were so sore I couldn't even think straight... killing me!😩
The soles are very thin....
It became patently obvious I usually only wear these when I'm not walking anywhere much..

Anyway, to the point... someone told me to try HOKA trainers... .. I had a look at them, not really my kind of style.. and quite expensive.. but I wondered if anyone here has them or worn them... and how they might compare to Go-ga mat cushioned insole style Skechers

I have a pair of Hokas, @hollydolly …. I honestly don’t see that they are different enough for the price. But others may have a different outlook

They were on a list my foot and ankle guy gave me. They were all too expensive. I started wearing Easy Spirit (not sneakers but casual shoes) about 15 years ago. They were ahead of Skechers I think with the comfort of memory foam. Now I wear both or either.

Yes, been through 2 pairs. Nothing special and the thick sole takes a couple days to adjust to.

yep from what I've seen of them, online, they don't look like they're worth the asking prices... I think I'll stay with skechers... (y)

Well, I've had a busy few days pretending to be mature.

I went to the hospital and had both of my carotid arteries ultrasounded.
I went to the cardiologist and had a great time as usual. He is fun to talk to.
And now, it looks like I will be going to some kind of vascular doc so they can treat my carotid arteries. I have 11 stents already, so if they do that, it is a piece of cake to handle.

I also made an appointment for next week with my regular doc. I had to cancel the appoint for a couple of weeks ago so I could take care of my nephews dogs and cats. I am almost to the point where I might agree to have my gallbladder removed. Lots of gallstones, no symptoms, but the gallstones themselves can cause problems like pancreatitis.

My son had his gallbladder removed when he was 11. He was horribly nauseated for 8 months afterwards. Post-gallbladder syndrome or some such. It was awful. That has me sorta kinda not wanting to relinquish that organ.

You guys can take a free trip through the human body with me, if you like. I swear my doc wants me to go to every specialist known to mankind. Meanwhile, I have to think about each one carefully. The list is getting longer (more besides the ones I've mentioned), and I need to go to Germany and France. Honestly

Meanwhile, my stepdaughter's husband has decided that I am tiny and delicate, out of the clear blue sky. He gave me a speech about how if I need help with anything, to come to him right away. So I leave some water bottles that had been delivered outside for my son to bring in. Instant service from Superman! After a short speech about asking for help, he brings the water bottles inside. Then he grabs my one son's crutches and starts playing around with them, like a demented monkey. I'm like, have you lost your ever-lovin' mind? Go away!

This guy is really great. We give each other grief all the time because it's fun. He's a wonderful husband and father, and (in his mind) delicate person tender.
