Suspect charged with igniting deadly Los Angeles Palisades Fire

In reality, the arsonist turned himself in. Law enforcement enjoys it when the suspect is so dumb that he/she points the evidence at themself.

Just like BTK and others, this type of criminal is seeking attention in the media because they want to be sure they get the credit they think they deserve, but sometimes they go a step too far by sending memes to the PD, pictures or make malicious phone calls daring the cops to find them.

They think they are in hiding and safe, but then because they aren’t getting enough attention, they feel the need to publicize their actions in order to draw more attention. Cops call that “inserting yourself into the crime.” Just like this guy did with making phone calls and then showing up to video the firemen, he inserted himself into the crime and became a suspect.

Like the adage, “The crook always returns to the scene of the crime.” Maybe not always, but often enough. They feel lucky and they have to see the aftermath of their crime. They are proud of their accomplishment.

I imagine the trial will be very interesting. Can anyone prove "unintended consequences".
I doubt his intentions can be proved. The law prohibits starting forest fires and has latitude in assigning punishments. I don't know if the latitude is enough in considering the consequences of this magnitude.

He called 911 so he could watch them fighting the fire?

If hadn't made the call wonder if they would've caught him.
Arsonists do this all the time. They will start a fire and when it gets going, they call 911. After a crowd forms to watch, the arsonist shows up as just another face in the crowd. They really enjoy patting themselves on the back. And, like this guy, they seek attention. They want credit for the horrible act they committed.
