Does Anyone Still Live In Their Hometown?

I grew up in Wisconsin and have lived in five states. I left at 18 and then returned at age 24. After I finished my graduate degree we left again for good for better career opportunities for me when I was 40. although I still have good friends there I would never consider moving back as I love Northern Nevada

My hometown is Anderson, Indiana. I left there in my late teens. I no longer go back there because I no longer have any immediate family there. It was a great place to grow up in, in the 60's. I have been back several times since then and it's sad to go back. Anderson was a thriving city because it had several GM factories. GM closed all of their plants there in the 80's and 90's. After GM left town, it went downhill fast. The last time I drove through my old neighborhood, the houses were run down. That's too bad because it wasn't a rich neighborhood, but people took pride in their property and kept their property up. They say you can never go home and, in my case, that holds true.

Yes, I am in my home town.

I don't like what it has become, but part of that is because it no longer looks like it did when I was young.

I consider my hometown to be in Montana, but I was originally from Chicago, having left there at 17. I haven't been to either one in 5 years.

seems like most people just accept all the changes in their lives including moving ; leaving home etc and are not interested in going back at least not permanently - am I reading this right?

I'm in North York.
That was part of my youth. I’ve spent decades on the other side of the country and expect this is were I’ll stay.

Adding: I know I wouldn’t recognize it if I came for a visit. We weren’t far from Yonge Street. We could run across it, if we were careful.

I can't speak for everyone. But me and my siblings all lived elsewhere at one time or another...and we all came back to home base. And, here we stayed.

No. My hometown is on a different continent on the other side of the Pacific ocean......now I live in the middle of North America.
I'll never see it again, it's a part of mainland China now and changed beyond recognition.
But our house is still there and occupied by a family.

Yes. I've come full circle. Was born here, moved away as a young child, lived in three different countries and several counties within England Finally came back here when I was in my 30s and here I will stay. I have always considered this town my home and it's always been in my heart. I was so happy to get back here.

No, and I couldn’t even afford the down payment on anything in that town, La Crescenta, a suburb of Los Angeles.

I was born in downtown Los Angeles (the hospital is now under the 110 freeway), and I’ve lived at approx 35 different addresses in my life, including in other countries, but since my move to a town in central Kansas four years ago, I feel at peace and like I’ve gone home. I often tell people that’s it’s like I’ve traveled in a time machine, back to my youth.

People here are, for the most part, polite, friendly, they put their shopping carts away, and, most importantly, I was able to buy a nice sized house with a full, finished basement on a large property for less than what a down payment would have been in Southern California! People, yes, real people, actually answer the phone at the bank, in shops, service places. It’s UNreal, as my mom would say!
