Who is your favorite singer of all time?

again Tom Jones was my mothers' Era, born around the same time as her..so I never got into his music much because he had his biggest hits in the 60's when I was a child altho' obviously I ws aware of all his ongs from hearing them on the radio... ... but since being an adult I realise he's a fabulous singer.. what they call a Singer's singer...

My mum loved his music, her favourite was green green grass of home.... My favourite TJ's song will always be

Most any person or group that sings Doo Wop. I have hundreds of songs on flash drives, maybe even thousands.
Alan Freed, who was before my time and was a big time DJ on a NY radio station (WABC). discovered a mess of young groups singing on the street corners in NYC. He died in 1965 from cirrhosis of the liver after being an alcoholic for umpteen years.

Alan was caught in a payola scandal with record companies by giving some songs extra playing time for cash. One of the biggest groups came from Belmont Avenue. Can you guess which group it was? Dion and the Belmonts.

I saw the Chantels at a Doo Wop concert back in the late 70's or early 80's. Lead singer Arlene Smith, still was able to belt out that tune. Still had amazing vocals in that song. She practically got a standing ovation from the audience. The lady is still alive today in New York City.
 
@VeggieMan .. please excuse my spellings sometimes..it's not that I can;t spell..and altho' almost everyone here knows.. you won't know as a newby, but I had a car accident 4 months ago.. and damaged my dominant hand and arm so badly I needed plastic surgery. The hand is still paralysed altho' I'm having many physio treatments to try and return it to normal ... but it means it's difficult for me to type.. hence the spelling errors.. I do try and correct them as soon as I see them but it's not helped by the fact that on my Mac the spell correct is no longer working.. so i don't even get a red line under the misspelled words..

Just thought you should know, I'm not illiterate lol

I never thought you were and honestly, I never noticed or took notice of any spelling errors...Anyway, spelling errors are small stuff. Don't Sweat The Small Stuff ❤️

We are musical soul mates, Holly! A friend once asked me who I thought was the best singer of all time and I answered with not a moment's hesitatition, Barbra.
 
It depends on the kind of music being played. For instance, back when I was a young man I used to love Joni Mitchell. Her songs were so personal and soul baring, but my wife can't stand her voice, so I never get to hear her nowadays. Other than that, Cat Stevens (I love his songs and I used to play Moonshadow in folk clubs).

For straight out ballads, there's Eva Cassidy (her Songbird album is haunting). For raunchy rock and roll as well as power ballads there's both Tom Jones and Freddy Mercury. For folk music Bob Dylan, and Sandy Denny ( I have a couple of her LP's, one of them signed by her). Then there's Karen Carpenter, whose voice sends shivers down my back every time those dulcet tones hit my ears.

I'm sure there are lots of others as well, but like I said, it's horses for courses.
 
I love these guys..The Mavericks... I don't think they've ever sung a bad song... sadly their lead singer Raul is currently fighting the fight of his life to beat cancer... 🙏
