Fire on the horizon in the direction of my place

If you want fires near your home, you could come to Hollywood.

Luckily, last year's big fires were - for the most part - not very near us. But we did evacuate one night when the next canyon to the west burst into flames, less than a mile away.

ALWAYS have an escape plan. Mother Nature, as well as human scum, can threaten you at any time. We can be out of here in ten minutes with all our important papers, prescription medicines, and a few family treasures.

Glad it was quickly extinquished and you're safe B. With all the wildfires that have taken place here in the U.S. (including my state), I find even the threat of fires near residences to be frightening.

The last time wildfire threatened where I lived was 1978?
Queenstown Tasmania lies at the bottom of a valley surrounded hills, covered by thick bush.
The fire ringed 270° of the town. Firefighters saved the town.

I am surrounded by housing. Almost nil chance of being burnt out. So no, I do not have an emergency plan.
No earthquakes, no floods, no cyclones. No nothing. :)
I'm quite safe where I live; very suburban area. Even if I lived closer to the river, I'm on the side of the river that is something of a fire shadow. Bushfires are not common on my side of the Georges River.

The only risk is me burning down the kitchen, or the massive gum tree out the front falling on the house. Arborists have assessed it as safe. For now.
