Have burning diaper rash

Due to the pain of my surgeries when I first arrived at this rehab I was judged non ambulatory—I was—and put in diapers in which I spent soak filled with poop for HOURS at a time. Now that I can go to the bathroom on my own I am plagued by burning rashes and sores. This was preventable. It’s agonizing. Had to initiate my own cleaning while waiting hours from burning.

I’m just so angry that this happened. I consider it elder abuse.

I’m ranting. At least I’m ranting in the right section.

If you really want @Pepper you can contact the administrator to complain as well as adult protective services and your state's health department. And I think they can be turned in to Medicare.

It's no excuse but, I do know there is a nursing shortage going on that likely isn't going to get any better.

I'm glad you're going home tomorrow. I'm so sorry they did that to you.

I’m so sorry this happened to you. Something similar happened to a good friend of mine, and they wanted to keep him because he had a very good pension and Social Security coming in. He found it hard to advocate for himself, although he was very educated and smart because he had been born mostly deaf and relied on lip reading sign. I busted him out of the nursing home and moved him back into his assisted living apartment.

The doctor and I at the nursing home really got into it and I told him that my friend’s brother was a lawyer and I had him on speed dial and if they did not get his medications together within hours and release him, they would be hearing from his lawyer. That finally got his attention, and after about three hours, my friend was released with this medication’s.

Sadly there's a lot that goes on behind the scenes in these nursing homes. Stuff people don't see but the employees do. It's disgusting.

When my father broke his hip and spent 3 months in the nursing home he said one night he pushed his call light and waited and waited. Finally he used his cell phone to call the nurses station and tell them he never got his dinner and wanted something to eat.

Unfortunately, nursing homes are a business not really a "home" like they would have you to believe. Most are short staffed so that the staff doesn't eat into the company's profits. Being short staffed means decreased quality of care. The problem is (and I've seen it), when there is sufficient or more than enough staff, then a lot of the staff doesn't get any more work done than they would have done had they been short staffed. The reason being I believe, is they think they are due this extra time for goofing off to make up for the times they were short staffed. It's a no win situation. The lazy staff members makes it hard emotionally and physically for the ones who are truly dedicated to their job and for the patients.

That makes me so angry!
It's neglect, and they all should be ashamed of themselves.
Totally preventable, sheer laziness on their part.

See if they have a patient advocate. Tell them. Even better, ask your doctor what system is in place to report and correct this.

My daughter was the activities director in a typical nursing home. That happened to people a lot. It infuriated her. She told the big boss which aides ignored patients' needs, and she got fired for it!!! That is incredible to me. The aides were sitting around socializing together instead of taking care of their patients.

((((((((((((((Pepper))))))))))))))
Oh my goodness. That IS elder abuse.
I’m so sorry you are going through this.
What’ a horrible position to be in. I am glad your son is picking you up tomorrow.
You’ve been given some good recommendations to help you deal with your rash. The only thing I can recommend is Goldbond Medicated Body Lotion.

I use it occasionally under my breasts. Sometimes I get a rash there and this works great to get rid of it and fast. It stings a bit at first.

A good cleanser is essential for keeping your skin clean and dry. Tea Tree Body Wash by Botanic Hearth. Tea tree oil and peppermint oil are very therapeutic for keeping skin clean. Neither of these products smells awful . The lotion smells slightly herbal.
The body wash smells a bit like tea tree oil which is a clean fresh scent.

Update. I’m exhausted. Collapse from all this stress. Signed plan on home care. Son and grandson picking me up at three pm tomorrow. Just want to be gone from here. So tired.
Thank you. Your kindness overwhelms me.

Thank you for updating us. Very glad for that.

One more night, and 1 more morning to go, there.
Hang on, Pepper.

I learned the hard way, last winter, at both hospital and then, rehab/nursing home;
That For myself,
If at all possible, it's better for me to suffer at home, if need be, than to suffer there.

Outsiders figure at least there's heat and food, at those places, but no. I was freezing with no heat, and often little food. And the toilet and medication issues were horrendous.

If you have the next operation, I hope you and your son will manage to get a different rehab briefly afterward, rather than that awful one, Pepper.

Meanwhile, good luck tomorrow with your big day.I hope the home health aid is decent.

Pepper...Is am so sorry you are going through this!! It never should have happened...they were clearly negligent!!! I hope there is someone you can complain to who is over everyone responsible...after you are discharged of course. I would also post a negative review on any and all places possible. I believe you've gotten enough good suggestions about what to use to heal that area. Heal soon!
