AI Overview is limiting the amount of search.

I tried to search about where to find something I wanted to buy near me.
Never had a lot of problems doing that before but right away AI overview say that it can’t supply specific locations where I can find what I want in my area.
To make a long story shorter it provided 2-3 pages of useless information and then to show how smart it is it showed my location as being about 40 miles away in a different town.
Google’s AI Overview limits the scope of my searches and from what I read it is designed to promote Google’s interests.
Google used to be my favorite search engine but as long as all you can find is what AI Overview wants to display I will go somewhere else .

http:// google .com /search ?udm= 14&q =%s minus the spaces gives you web with no ai

then i went into settings and the search engine section. where it says manage search engine settings i added it and listed it as G and made it default.

Effective web searching has always required knowledge, skill, and experience. That often requires drilling down through increasingly focused results. Sometimes, the search results are so dominated by hits to specific terms, that one must figure out different terms to use. And sometimes such is impossible, especially if it relates to a highly market competitive product class. Google, despite considerable criticism to be fair, has always given advantages to their paid advertisers.

I can probably do that on my pc but my IPhone only has about five choices like Google or Yahoo or Bing or DuckDuckGo or one I’ve never tried like Ecosia.

With respect, you almost get it. Almost. Now you need to realize that EVERYTHING you see in search results - whether it be Google of on a Social Media site - is ALWAYS prejudice to a point of view. Sometimes that point of view is your own. So it feeds you more of what you like, which prevents you from getting a broad idea of what's really going on.

I set my phone to Ecosia as the search engine to see what it was like and right away it wanted to use cookies to do better searches.
Don’t know why everybody wants to collect cookies so they can sell every bit of information about me.
If information about me is that valuable they should be paying me for it instead of just asking for my permission to use it.
I don’t allow cookies very often. I will even close things out and try something different so that I don’t have to allow that.

I use Google without the Ai overview.
On the search engine there is Ai Mode, but I need to click on it to activate it. Which I do not do.

What a great idea. I hadn't thought about that. I always preferred Mr Google who knows everything, but now I can try another one like Duckduckgo.

Oh that explains why it shows all these irritating Temu things. If I need something I need to type the shop and the thing they may or may not have. I think Aldi pays nothing. I have to go to their own site and search for the product there.
