I seen these vacumn cleaners advertised ,so I went and checked them out in the shops and left the shop to think about it as I rarely buy anything without thinking about especially when it's something over $500 as this was ..

I used to have to get out my barrel type VERY HEAVY one
out every second day ,it is well made in Germany (I've had it 20 years or more ) I was sick of lugging it in and out of the cupboard ...Now it can sit and wait untill I need it to give the carpet a good beating with the power head ...I have about 70+ square mtrs of almost white floor tiles so the new stick vacumn is a breeze to use compared to the barrel ..
..This new one hangs on a charger on the wall it also has a power head and cleans well ..the power head for the hard floors is a kind of microfibre so it tends to dust the floor as it picks up any bits
Have you got to the stage where the old vacumn seems to have got to heavy to get in and out of the cupboard..and considered getting something lighter..

"I have mostly carpet."

Carpet may actually be one of the things slowly killing us. Ever have sunshine flowing in through a windowglass, to reveal, if viewed from one side, the millions of tiny specks floating in the air? That stuff is usually called "mote". Gets inhaled into our lungs. Comes out of carpeting, furniture, bedding, anything having fabric. It's scared me for years, especially when I began having real serious breathing problems ~ 10 years ago. Compounding my troubles was heating (in Missouri) solely with wood. Open up one of the stoves, clouds of fine particles wafted through the air, settling throughout the house.

There is no escaping the fact that the human lungs are beyond belief in their ability to carry us through old-age. I have read that if the entire inner surface of a pair of human lungs was stretched out flat, it would cover an area greater than that of a football field! imp

Imp I understand your lung problems .. I grew up in a very dry arid dusty mining town so have suffered all my life ( Just as well I never smoked ) I now live a country town a couple of hours from the nearest city for that reason .. I had carpet in all the house bar the kitchen/ wet areas in Adelaide so I know what your saying that's why we have tiles now , only have carpet in bedrooms

Have your lung difficulties improved? You have never smoked? I did not, either. My worst days were 10 years ago, 4 doctors gave 4 different opinions. No solution. Gulped down Albuterol inhaler, gave up daily walking 2 miles, forced myself to walk far as I could. Slowly, over MONTHS, it improved. Today, I take NO inhalers, no lung medications, walk all day long, easily. I think if the human body is not abused like by smoking, it can repair itself. The doctors sure could not repair me! imp

Yes since shifting out of the city ( Adelaide ) where I Lived for about 18 years I have not had pneumonia once ..I had it for10 years running prior to moving .. No I have not even tried a ciggerette inmy life imp .. I no longer have to use an inhaler, I always have one on hand in the summer as it's very dry here in summer..in fact it was very dry here for this time of year untill yesterday ,we had only 4 mills rain for Oct normally have about 35 mills ....Yesterday we had a severe storm we had 48 mills in one downpour , it's Beautifull and fresh I'll try posting a photo taken from my front yard

Something about those motes from the carpeting ...

It isn't only the carpet fibers themselves. In fact, I understand that the majority of what we think of as "dirt" is actually skin and hair cells from us and our pets, upon which feed something called "dust mites". They along with their waste products often cause allergies in the residents.

They prefer dark, warm environments and are usually found in bedding, clothing and carpeting, so unless you give up sleeping and walk naked on your hardwood floors it's unlikely that you can ever rid yourself totally of these pests.

Yes, those mighty mites that enjoy our "flesh" while we sleep, especially in our eyebrows...

I'm sorry we got carpet in our living room instead of hardwood floors and an area rug. That was our intention and hubby was going to put in the floor after he finished putting in a whole new kitchen. But after 5 weeks doing the kitchen he said nope, just get carpet. Both of us have allergies and I'm sure some of it is dust, etc.

This is one of the Dyson vacuum cleaners....and for my money, they are the BEST on the market. We used to wear out a vacuum cleaner every 5 or 6 years, and then, when we moved to the country, we bough a Dyson "Animal", and it is still working like new after 13 years. They cost a bit more to begin with, but they last a lot longer than most other brands...making them cheaper, in the long run. If this small Dyson is built to the same quality standards as their larger models, I would say that it is worth the price.

You will probably be pleased with the Dyson....if it is anything like ours. With proper care, and routine cleaning, it will probably last a long long time. I have found that buying a more expensive item usually winds up being the cheapest in the long run, as it outlasts several of the "bargains".

Yes Don I'm sure it will outlast me ..Like the heavy barrel one I have that I think we bought in 1996 .its a Wertheim think that will outlast me also ..Its still a very good vacumn for the carpets it give the carpet a good beating with the power head.
The Dyson are recommended for allergy asthma sufferers , I haven't used it on carpet yet but will try it latter.
