Might be an early question as Happy New Year is still arriving but how have you been through the holidays thus far? Happy New Year to all. I believe 2026 is a good number so let it be good to all of us.
OH WOW! I can only imagine. Just super! The first day of Christmas was wonderful, with 95% of the family gathered. One couldn’t make the cross country trip.
The second day is good - we have grandkids all overnighting with us.
Oh Crust! That just sucks. Feel better soon!It was very enjoyable except for catching a cold.
Me too, got laryngitic after sitting too long in front of the air conditioner. It was very enjoyable except for catching a cold.
You just be you and celebrate and I am so very sorry you lost your love. There are many Kwanza events here in Oakland and San Francisco alike. If my home was in order, I'd invite you here to celebrate. The news here speaks to folks for whom celebrates Kwanza. The folks and events not only look beautiful but portray real down-to-earth folk as well. If I had helpers getting my home in order for you and yours to stay here, you'd be more than welcome. I'm serious but I have no one to help me at the moment. A truly happy Kwanza to you and yours. From my heart!Thank you. An early Happy New Year to you as well Paulina. My son. middle grandson (who doesn't live with us) and I don't celebrate Christmas because we are Muslim. Today starts Kwanza but I haven't attended a celebration since my husband passed and we used to go every year. I hope to be able to attend at least one of the 6 remaining celebrations. We don't go out on New Year's eve. It's a zoo out there plus the prices at places where celebrations take place are ridiculously high for that one night. So for us, the Christmas-New Year holiday period is quiet and relaxing.
I think you need to air. I'm sorry about your son being estranged. Can we support you in any way? Nice to hear you have grandchildren. If this helps at all, I (we) never will have grandchildren for the rest of our lives.Mine was a mix of delightful photos and videos of the three baby grandchildren and grief because it's my 8th Christmas estranged from my son.
Oh hell. Us too. There used to be some sort of firecrackers that were loud like m-80New Year's Eve will be very quiet where I live, except when it's 12 o'clock and the idiots start setting off fireworks, and frightening all the animals and birds in the trees.
Awww...thank you so much for your condolences and would be invite PaulinaYou

Too damn cute! I've seen many highlights of Kwanza festivities in our area. Gorgeous dancing costumes to boot. Lots of men with their native African tongue. Very handsome at that. I haven't flown since before the checkpoints were established. Am I old or what? Much love!Awww...thank you so much for your condolences and would be invite PaulinaNo worries, I no longer fly anyway. I've had a personal boycott of the airlines for a couple of decades. I hadn't gone to the celebrations because they used to take place at night, I no longer drive and my son is in bed, sometimes by 7:30 p.m. because he gets up between 2 and 3 a.m. for work, so he wouldn't be able to pick me up. My niece by marriage spearheads many of the Kwanzaa activities.
We've had lovely events, each one with several performers and historians. One year my son deejayed. Another, my neighbor's brother who was also a good friend of my husband, played the bongos during a musical selection. It's a chance not only to celebrate our culture but to connect with folks we may not have seen in a while. And of course there's always good food.
In 2016, these cute little girls danced to a song with African rhythms.
