Fake Somali Daycare Centres With No Children Pocketed Billions of Taxpayer Cash

From that headline you post in your news makes me think you fell for a hyped up news report.
I would not say it has rocked the US, it's just another reason of many the government is checking
any groups being funded by them and personally I think it's about time.
That list of illegal use of funds is so long and I do think many of us are never surprised by what they find lately.
My personal hopes is they find them all, cut them off, arrest them and get the money back to where
it's supposed to be doing good.
I didn't fall for anything... I posted the video of the American Youtuber who discovered it all

How a viral video exposed Somali migrant scandal that has rocked US: Woke politicians kept quiet as hundreds of millions of dollars were paid to immigrant fraudsters who threatened to cry racism when questioned

The above is the headline from the UK's Daily Mail newspaper from a few posts ago. I think it is accurate.

I've known for decades about welfare fraud, at low levels, but thus massively organized level is new. I think.

Even decades ago, the welfare admin did not care about the fraud, and would almost never do anything about it, even when it was reported, with substantiating evidence.

Glad to see more than 80 have been arrested already, many convicted, for this fraud. Finally some action being taken.

It has been going on in Minnesota for years, and has been reported to the officials for years. Maybe there was some local news media coverage about it. Probably. But still nothing significant was done about it. Not sure why the Nick Shirley video got so much attention, and triggered a response from officials. But glad it did.

We had a Bulgarian fraud here. It was about a lot less money.

The Fraud (circa 2013): A Bulgarian gang tricked people into coming to the Netherlands to register and apply for benefits (rent and healthcare benefits) on a large scale, often retroactively. The loot was shared, after which those involved returned to Bulgaria. Millions of euros were involved.
Reason for tougher action: The discovery of this fraud (by RTL Nieuws and KRO Brandpunt, among others) caused a major political uproar. Politicians demanded tough action against fraud, prompting the Tax and Customs Administration and the Benefits Agency to drastically tighten their oversight.

Origin of the Benefits Affair: The intensive hunt for fraudsters (focused on "fewer rules, more control") led to the Tax and Customs Administration immediately suspending benefits at the slightest irregularity. As a result, tens of thousands of (often innocent) Dutch citizens, including many parents with a migration background, were wrongly labeled as fraudsters, forced to repay benefits, and landed in deep debt. Kids were taken away from their parents.

Aftermath: Although the Bulgarian fraud was the starting point for this strict policy, it turned out to affect ordinary citizens instead of the targeted organized crime. In 2021, it was revealed that some of those involved in the original Bulgarian fraud even received compensation as victims of the childcare benefits scandal.

An investigation into the childcare benefits scandal showed that the hunt for fraud went "out of control" after the Bulgarian fraud, with institutional racism and a lack of human touch playing a major role.

I saw people who fled to Africa with their kids because of it. White Dutch people fleeing to Africa so their kids wouldn't be stolen.

🤣 It’s too bad we can’t have both, but if the U.S. was ever invaded, the HSR would be of little value.
Nobody is going to invade the U.S. The only other super power in the world is China, and they're not going to invade since logistical factors such as crossing the Pacific Ocean unimpeded would make it impossible, plus resupplying would be virtually impossible without retaliation from the U.S. And of course, we have nuclear weapons as does China, so there's that deterrent.

The bigger threat is cyberattacks, and obviously, fighter jets aren't going to do anything to stop that.

Today's threats are deterred through the use of intelligence. That's where we're totally screwed.

This is a December 29 story from the Minneapolis Star Tribune. I'd say they are probably as much, if not more, credible than a Youtuber. And they are closer to the story than the Daily Mail. This is also a politically charged issue for those who might want to do some research but I can't go into that in this forum. Is it wrong? Of course. Has it "rocked" the US? Hardly.

There is no direct evidence linking the broader Somali community in Minnesota to widespread fraud beyond allegations focused on specific individuals and cases. Federal prosecutors have charged 98 people in a sweeping investigation into fraud involving public programs, with 85 of those individuals being of Somali descent. These cases primarily involve schemes like the Feeding Our Future scandal, where individuals fraudulently claimed to provide meals to children during the pandemic and billed the state for services not rendered, resulting in estimated losses of up to $300 million. The alleged ringleader of that scheme, Aimee Bock, is white.

Additional cases include charges against eight individuals for defrauding the Housing Stabilization Services Program by falsely claiming to assist people transitioning from rehabilitation facilities, and a separate case involving false certifications for autism services. While these fraud cases have involved many individuals of Somali origin, federal prosecutors have not charged any defendants with providing material support to foreign terrorist organizations such as al-Shabab, despite claims by conservative sources linking the fraud to terrorism funding.

A viral video by right-wing influencer Nick Shirley claimed that Somali-run daycare centers in Minneapolis misappropriated over $100 million, but these claims remain unproven and have been met with skepticism. Some of the daycares visited by Shirley appeared closed or turned him away, though follow-up reporting found that several were operational and serving children. State and local officials have questioned the validity of the broader allegations, noting that while some facilities may have issues, there is no conclusive evidence of systemic fraud across the community.

Furthermore, a key source cited in a conservative report alleging connections between Minnesota fraud and al-Shabab funding later disputed the accuracy of the claims, stating that records were not pulled from Minnesota as reported and that he never visited the state. This has cast doubt on the strength of the evidence linking Somali community members in Minnesota to large-scale, organized fraud networks.

In summary, while numerous individuals of Somali descent have been charged in specific fraud cases, there is no verified evidence proving that the Somali community as a whole has engaged in fraud, nor has a link to terrorism been legally established. The allegations largely stem from isolated criminal cases and politically charged claims lacking comprehensive corroboration.

I did see on the national news today that Shirley visited a daycare center at 12 pm one day, claiming it was empty, and at 1pm cameras showed mothers dropping off their children at that particular center. If this is worth a thread, it's worth doing some research prior to piling on.

Who is Nick Shirley?

Shirley has not always presented himself as an “independent journalist” as he does now. His YouTube account’s early videos are more along the lines of “shock content” and pranks. Six years ago, as a 16 year-old, he filmed himself flying to New York with his friends without parental consent. Three years after that, he posted a video titled “I Tricked TikTokers Into Auditioning For a Justin Bieber Music Video.”

Though he found modest success with these videos, Shirley started really gaining views once he shifted focus to political issues.

Shirley has posted videos in the past that were orchestrated specifically to mislead people. One of the daycares refused to let him in because they could see that he was with 5 masked men and the car didn’t have any license plates. One daycare is after school only care and doesn’t even open until 2pm. This man is not a reliable source.

Some of you are working really hard to look the other way here. This isn’t over. somalia is famous for piracy, and the terror group Boko Haram. So it’s not surprising that Somali immigrants might think it’s ok to commit fraud on a giant scale.
Yes, the national trend is to look the other way if it pertains to Muslims. They can destroy the World Trade Center, bomb the Boston Marathon, steal $9 billion in Minnesota, and funnel $6 million to Hamas from Texas while their leaders openly advocate destroying the United States and its culture and Constitution and making this an Islamic state. We spend billions fighting them overseas and elect them to public office here at home.

Americans are under the delusion there is a good Islam and a bad Islam and all immigrants to the U.S. must be good Islamists. The facts are that all Muslims believe in the same teachings of the same Quran and the same Prophet and these teachings are so diametrically opposed to our Constitution and federal laws that I don't see how Muslims qualify for legal citizenship to begin with. It is my understanding these qualifying laws will be upgraded in 2026.

Please do continue. :ROFLMAO:

And here’s a question. Why does a community with a high unemployment rate and low percentage of working mothers need so many daycares. Hmmm?
And why would Somali pirates who attack cruise ships off the coast of Africa, as you referenced in an earlier post, come to the US to scam the government? Hmmm.

The U.S. uses their threat of nuclear weapons (ICBM’s, SLBM’s and SB’s) to keep other countries from attacking. No country with these weapons want to be the first to use them against other nations for apparent reasons. If that wasn’t the case, Russia would have ended their war in Afghanistan and Ukraine. The use of the U.S.’s defensive weapons (Aircraft Carriers, MDS’s and ACM’s) are what protects the country from invasion or attack.

People on the left have glommed onto Nick Shirley. He's not a journalist, more of a prankster, and his video shows that. That doesn't negate the fact that Somalis (not all Somalis, of course) have engaged in large-scale fraud in Minnesota (and indications of Somali-related fraud are starting to come in from elsewhere, including Ohio.)

Fraud has a long history in the US, particularly in urban areas. My Irish compatriots robbed NYC blind in the latter parts of the 19th Century. White cops, firefighters and railway workers engage in large-scale retirement fraud throughout the New York metropolitan area, taking disability payments and then showing up on golf courses and even in marathon races. Cities like Chicago are legendary for corruption. My city has seen many examples of fraud by city officials.

It should be possible to condemn fraud (especially really nasty fraud like setting up fake autism centers, which is verified) without engaging in racist discourse.

Some of the fraud is believed to be going back to 2014.

Apparently Somalis and others have been taking/flying millions in cash out the US in suitcases. All they have to do is fill out paper work. Supposedly 'ok' if destination has no banking system.

MSN

A report from 2018

Millions of dollars in suitcases fly out of MSP, but why?

Alot of cash winds up funding terrorists. I still cant believe civilians carrying millions in cash out of airport doesn't raise major flags and trigger headline grabbing investigations. This scheme/story remained pretty local yet involved federal funds.

I'm somewhat curious about this Shirley guy, but I won't go to utube seeking reliable information. I think in time, this scandal will sort itself out, while both sides of politics will milk it, spin it, and use it to sway public opinion.

83 million of us, including many veterans, owning firearms is also a pretty good deterrent to invasion.

Whenever you paint an entire group of people as being a certain way it’s racist and wrong.

I would probably agree if the invasion were to take place totally on the ground.
I will leave the rest to your imagination.
