Reflections of My Life

same here... altho' the govt are trying to addres the junk food that people buy as a single item..like pasties , pies etc from the bakery at lunch time... for a quick filling snack.. by raising their prices. The govt don't address the highly processed pre-packaged foods in the suermarket that cost pennies but are full of junk, chemicals and nasties.. that people on lower incomes feed to their families...

I mean what do people think is in a chilled or canned processed Lasagne that feeds 4 people for £1 for example .... they don't care when they're on a low income they just want to fill their kids bellies and it's causing an epidemic of Diabetes, cancers, weight issues ..all sorts of problems..
Unfortunately that is how it is. When it becomes a matter of survival it makes all the difference. It's sad that we have to choose between fed and healthy.

It's just terrible ... and there's no need for it.. because in the UK it's costing the NHS literally millions of£££'s treating illnesses caused by bad diets.....and taking much needed money away from the treatment for critical illnesses like cancers, dialysis, etc...

The other thing is education... not everyone who is poor per se feeds their kids this crap.... for those people it's kind of understandable... but I know of people who buy these cheap foods.. so that they can pay for Gel Nails, botox, fashionable clothing for themselves.. booze, drugs.. nights out, cigarettes... ......who suffers?..the kids..
You have parents who don't even cook.. they just order a take out every night.... pizza, burgers, fried chicken, curry... and on and on and on....

Education is key.... but half the time these people don't want to learn

I have found that following the way I eat (keto) it does not cost any more (and probably way less) than buying snacks or processed foods. The least something is processed including taking the skin off meat or cutting it in pieces the less it will cost. I always check the per pound on the price tag to see what is the cheapest. I always read the ingredient labels even on things I always buy.......those sneaky manufacturers change ingredients all the time. I need it to be within my budget but also need it to be nutritional also. Protein heals so I always make sure to get that above all else. Never lowfat as that is very unhealthy. Fat is good for you, especially your brain.

I know a lot of people who live that way. Their kids know where every fast food place is. And that is all they want to eat.

Well there is the fast factor too. No cooking or cleaning up. Not even any shopping for it. Just pull up to the window and everyone gets what they want. I wonder how they are affording it? Now that has gotten really expensive and how do you buy it for a whole family?

In this country if you're on benefits ..you get a lot of money for every child you have as well as your rent paid........there's no incentive for these people to find a job... they're better off than many who work for a living.. by a long way....

I think there are lots of different reasons, why some parents and people can't or don't cook.
I wish there were more already cooked foods, (and healthy ones)
sold economically, and widespread, as in grocery stores.

I wish I had time and energy to do what you do kat. But working 40 hrs a week and having copd is limiting so I just do the best I can.

I have lost 23 lbs and I'm trying to stay away from sugar mostly. The sugar free and diet products actually have been a benefit to me. I try to stick with fruits regardless of what form they take.

If I was retired I'd cook more.

I personally think you're an inspiration....

Everyone has to eat the way that works for them. What I have done for myself may not work for someone else. I know in the beginning I could not imagine not eating bread or baked goods. I baked my own when I lived as a homesteader. I bought flour and sugar in 25 lb. bags. Sometimes when we did not have money for food from the store we lived on my homegrown canned goods. And I baked almost every day. My husband would eat whatever I baked because he loved his sweets. He was skinny and could eat a lot.

Eating that way back then was cheap. Instead of buying processed baked goods or breads I made it and it was incredibly delicious. Not like the stuff you buy already made by a factory. Eventually I learned that even that food was not what my body needed. I look at my husband as I said he had a sweet tooth and was skinny. He was also full of energy and could not sit still. Did a lot of physical work and was very strong. Yet last year he had a stroke. So even though he appeared very healthy could that have been prevented if he had not eaten that way? Who knows?

So far I have managed to stay off medications except for some supplements and the occasional Tylenol or Motrin. Now I am dedicating this year to working on my health issues. Lymphedema and arthritis. That is why I had to get a bed. I need to put my feet up high every day and night. The recliner is no help since I cannot recline it myself. Maybe I will get rid of it since I am not comfortable in it..........or the other chair either. Looking forward to my bed being delivered today!

is your recliner the one with the handle? cuz they make different ones now. not sure if they would be any better or not. you could ask then if something sounded like it might work maybe someone could take you to the store to try it out first.
I don't want one now. Just a comfortable rocker but not a wooden one.

Starting my morning today making meatballs to cook in the slow cooker. I have barely used this slow cooker since Sonny bought it for me in 2019. Was too far back in the cupboard to get it out. I pulled it out yesterday and decided to start using it.

Later this morning, I am hoping to get back downstairs to the laundry room. I did half of my laundry yesterday which was 4 washers and 2 dryers. Need to use up all the money on my laundry card before Feb. 4th when the new company comes in. It was nice yesterday, nobody else down there. I stayed down there once I had clothes in the dryer. They can't take them out of the washers when they are going so they are safe till they go in the dryers.

I should have put the furniture sliders on the new bed when the delivery guys were here but I forgot. It is heavy. Might have to have Jeff help me. I can't believe how heavy it is. I don't think I will be using the zero gravity option as it lifts the whole bed up in the air.....high! I would probably fall off. My mattress is ordered and the delivery date is Jan 21st. So I have time to do stuff with it till then. It is a twin XL and looks tiny but it will be higher and bigger once it has the mattress on it. There is a bar at the end to keep the mattress from sliding.

mine is.also a twin xl. on my remote it has a memory button. I push.the.button and.it goes to how.i like it after I lie down. then I push.the.other.button before I get out and.it goes.flat.
