I hope that you Aussies gave her a royal reception which she so richly deserves. And, she looked pretty smart as she pretended to stab old Charlie with a knife. Such a fun and wonderful couple...

Yes, well, we royalty can josh each other, but you commoners wouldn't understand...

No it isn't.

That's the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay!

That is another of their titles. There are still more.

She (Camilla) is technically The Princess of Wales – Because Princess Diana is closely associated with ‘The Princess of Wales’ Camilla has chosen not to use that title.

However, her full title is as follows: Her Royal Highness The Princess Charles Philip Arthur George, Princess of Wales, Duchess of Cornwall, Duchess of Rothesay, Countess of Chester, Countess of Carrick, Baroness of Renfrew, Lady of the Isles, Princess of Scotland, Dame Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order. - See more at: http://www.freetoursbyfoot.com/10-things-didnt-know-camilla-duchess-cornwall/#sthash.U9zlv3lJ.dpuf

The US has titles too, Bob. Your presidents are called Mr President for as long as they live without even the qualification 'former' being added at the front.
You even have dynasties - the Bush family and the Kennedys for example. They just aren't formalised in your constitution.

And you certainly have your own set of 'robber barons' in the world of commerce.

Exactly what I was speaking of. And for what some call dynasties, that is nonsense. It is just the way our families develop. Nothing royal at all. No respect expected or given. They are just the same as I am in this country. We don't even respect the super wealthy either. Look to George Soros or Trump and you see reviled and hated ones. And they don't have titles either. Calling Presidents, actual or retired, Mr President is at best a formality, not a title. If you read on the US forums, this is an example, very few refer to our Presidents as Mr President so and so. I see more names like Bush, Reagon, Obama, with no titles of any kind. Sure glad we got rid of the titles in the beginning and still don't use them.

What you are talking about would only be a courtesy title with no bearing on the persons status at all.

[h=2]Nobility in Modern America[/h] The Constitution of the United States prohibits both the United States and the separate states from granting titles of nobility. Moreover, certain U.S. citizens are prohibited from accepting foreign titles while holding office of profit or trust. The text follows:
Article I, Section 9, Clause 8. No title of nobility shall be granted by the United States: and no person holding any office of profit or trust under them, shall, without the consent of the Congress, accept of any present, emolument, office, or title, of any kind whatever, from any king, prince, or foreign state.

Like him or not, as a citizen he will be your sovereign when the time comes.

Unlike Americans, we do not have the normal democratic right of an elected Head of State!

Many British are still fine with having a monarchy because they like Elizabeth. Charles is not popular and I think the monarchy will be on its way out. It is the 21st century and this outdated system needs to go.

The republican movement in Australia will get a boost when Elizabeth dies.

This could underlie the visit of Charles and Camilla.
They are on a charm offensive.

Aussies are a bit besotted with Prince William and Katherine but then they are just as besotted with Princess Mary of Denmark.

Looking at their schedule, this visit must be absolutely critical to UK/Australian relations. :joke:

Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall have been greeted by NSW Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione before the prince goes off to visit the barracks museum, and Camilla to tour the stables.

They will also meet with representatives from Riding for the Disabled and the NSW Police Dog Squad during their nearly hour-long visit.T

he royal couple arrived in Sydney early on Thursday ahead of a packed schedule which includes a public meet and greet in Martin Place and a dinner hosted by Governor General Peter Cosgrove at Admiralty House. - See more at: http://www.skynews.com.au/news/top-...illa-to-tour-sydney.html#sthash.xU7r6g07.dpuf

All I can say is, "Wow. How amazing is that?"

"Charles is not popular "

Wouldn't agree with you there. Not as popular as the Queen, perhaps, although I think she's just a crabbit old woman, but more popular than Philip. She's had a long time to court popularity, he's fairly new to the game.

Charles is a lot more popular than Edward VII was, even when he was king. He was utterly reviled, long after his death, for his public humiliation of Alex.

"Aussies are a bit besotted with Prince William and Katherine "

The whole damn world is besotted with them!

"I took a liking to Fergie- she seemed to be quite a character."

Little more than a air-headed scrubber, and a drain on the world's oxygen supply.

"Oh! dear not this old chestnut again................Charles and Camilla were discussed in this thread and who liked them and who didn't..........."

But you must have known what the thread was about, so why open it?

Oh! dear slapped wrist for me then Laurie.:lol1:
