Is cinnamon the new miracle potion?

I saw an advertisement that claimed that cinnamon did all kinds of good for a person if taken in larger amounts with water at bed time.
So I searched for benefits and side effects from the Cleveland Clinic site.
They said that cinnamon does have a lot of benefits but that one type of cinnamon can cause liver damage if taken in large amounts.
So I’m betting that some experts already have it figured out how a person can get the benefits without poisoning themselves.
So I turn once again to my friends on the Senior Forum to see if any of you are adding cinnamon to your routine?
In the meantime I will try to find out more about what is safe and what isn’t.
They state that there are two kinds of cinnamon so does one safely provide the benefits?
 

Cinnamon was touted (even decades ago) as something great. But it takes FAR more than a sprinkle it on your oatmeal every morning.

I did not see where the Cleveland Clinic mentioned two types, I DID see where they said:
"Cinnamon may have some health benefits. However, the American Diabetes Association doesn’t recommend relying on cinnamon as a way to reduce blood glucose levels. Nor do we. Results from studies have been conflicting and there is not enough evidence to prove it works.

Because supplements aren’t regulated by the Food and Drug Administration, you don’t know the purity or exact content of them. Your best bet to stay healthy is to follow your diabetes food plan, get regular exercise and take your medication faithfully.

I saw the headline for what was probably the same ad. I didn't read it. All kinds of this same kind of crap is all over the internet. When I read the headline, I just did an eye roll, and wondered if this nonsense would ever end. Don't get me wrong, I like cinnamon and sugar sprinkled liberally on buttered toast and gooey frosted cinnamon rolls hot from the microwave. But I seldom eat them, because lets face, it's not a healthy thing to eat. And now someone is telling me it's a miracle cure? Yeah right.

I use it regularly as an anti-inflammatory... it helps me enough to continue using it.
I buy (organic) Ceylon cinnamon as it is supposed to have fewer negative side effects like what you've posted.
It's cheap enough and take a 1/4 teaspoon 5x/day.
I also mix it with other supplements that I also regularly.

I know it all sounds like nonsense... er, it did to me at first... but what can I say other than it works for me.

I felt the same way about tart cherry extract, but it was recommended by a couple of people for pseudogout which I was having crippling episodes from. I've been taking one capsule a day for 6 years now without being bothered by pseudogout once. Some herbal meds probably work. Maybe even half of them, but some can also be dangerous.

Edit: I tried in in desperation because my doctor wasn't doing a thing to help. I was on crutches at least two or three times a year.

Be warned. Almost all doctors will dismiss natural supplements in favor of prescribed medications.
Your last statement is accurate.. they're no longer 'healthcare providers,' most are money-grubbing pill-pushers..

Cleveland Clinic said that it was the other type that causes liver damage so it’s nice to know that what you are taking doesn’t seem to have dangerous side effects.

I think, maybe incorrectly, that doctors are not supposed to endorse anything not actually approved by the American Medical Association. When I told my doctor I was using tart cherry extract, he said that was OK, but kind of with a tone that at least it probably was safe, if not necessarily effective. Without some research organization that verifies efficacy, they are safer not to encourage things for which they have no actual knowledge or verifiable source.

Thank You! My nephew has been trying to get me to drink green tea for years.
He really touts the benefits of it.
A quarter of a teaspoon of the cinnamon seems to be a good starting point.

Coffee, preferably not caffeine free, is also full of good things.

I stopped taking COQ10 when I read that there is little evidence it affects the amount of COQ10 in the blood of the people who take it.

I take magnesium since my experience has been a huge reduction in nightly leg cramps when I take it.

I looked for capsules on Amazon and saw reviews that claim that the ones that claimed to be Ceylon were actually cassia.
Saw other reviews that said that other brands did nothing for them.
Do you know if there is a dependable brand to look for?
